For your listening pleasure....

A remix of Water Street, for a class. enjoy, there is more to come.

as Thanksgiving approaches, I realize that I haven't posted since the end of the summer... here goes:

yes, I got paid by my boss. I quit since school was starting, which by the way is most of the way through the penultimate semester.

so, we went on the insane New Zealand trip, which was a lot of fun. I have clips of video that include me saying "your mom" way too much. Eventually (read: possibly never, but hopefully after classes and before I leave for Christmas) I should have it edited down into a nice little video file that sums up some part of what our trip was.

New Zealand's absurdly gorgeous. I mean it. That much green seems surreal, and was quite the opposite from NYC. wellington felt like some German town where everybody forgot to tell them to speak German. Very European,  but not  the place  for me. Amanda seems to really like it though, which is good. speaking of which, she has a beau now, which is not something I'm used to :).

Came back, started school. I've got some pretty awesome suitemates: John, my roommate, who happens to be a New Yorker born and bred, studying fine arts. My suitemates, Russ and Jason, are both from philly, and have known each other since middle school or something like that. oh yeah, John and Russ are both into jazz, and john plays guitar, while russ plays sax. so it's a good group. we've been having some good times.

I have classes from Tuesday to Thursday, so I've been able to take on things like being the director for the production one of our classes is creating. I've also had a chance to play WoW a lot with dad while he was on the night shift. we've had some good times so far, and we'll probably get to 60 soon, and 70 some time after that.

This past Sunday I played a set of songs after church at the trash bar, had a good time. some people were digging on it, which was good. that was after a really funky worship set, but they can't all be awesome, I guess.

I haven't been writing much, which is sorta annoying. part of it is that life has been pretty good recently. I've also been distracted from writing by a lot of stuff. and I haven't been playing guitar as much, which is kinda sad. I think this will be partly remedied over Christmas break.

speaking of holidays, Thanksgiving is tomorrow! I'll be wandering New York City, or maybe just wrapped up warmly in a blanket, watching tv or some nonsense like that. maybe I'll grab some chinese food for thanksgiving (I am in chinatown after all...)

That's all for now. more to come later.

Last-minute woes

So a check from my employer bounces. no biggie, he says he's on it via e-mail. except his phone "isn't accepting calls at this time" according to the message played when I call it, and you can't leave a message. and he's moving out of his apartment on the 31st. and then he wasn't there at the office, and there's a new lock on the gate of the office.

this is a shame really, because I stayed up all night, and during some of that time I was putting together a nifty little php judging page. basically, it takes 2 entries from a database of links we have, and sets it up so that they're streamed next to each other, then you can watch them, and press a button to vote for one of them. and that info gets stored in a separate table in the database, so we can see how each video measures up in the eyes of online viewers. you can see the barebones (read: not pretty) version as a test that I made with 5 random videos from blip.tv at http://www.creiglow.com/~jeremiah/videojudge.php

So we'll see what happens. I've talked to the other person who is really involved in the fall film fest, and she's talked to my boss on Saturday, but not since then. ah well, life continues, and soon I will be in another country for two weeks. I'd just like to have everything settled before I go.

A new song!

Hey guys,

So I finished another song. I wrote this one at the office of our church on Tuesday, and it's a good thing I did it then, because today (wednesday) it flooded from some bad gutters. it's a little religiously bent, but not in what I would call a worshipful way. oh well, here are the lyrics.

If spoken words will not suffice
Then what is left but a wordless shout?
I've tried cruel and I've tried nice
So won't you hear me out
Won't you hear me out?

All the joys that I have seen
And all the trials you've brought me through
Have left me somewhere in between
The end of the world and you
The end of the world and you

I'm not afriad to be standing on that day
But I'd like to know is it near or far away
    Is sorrow here to stay?

Take your time with your reply
I'm not expecting an answer tonight
It's not my place to question why,
But why, oh Jesus why?
Why, oh Jesus why?

Every mountain has its peak
And every valley has it's low
I'll just say I'm sunk in deep
And hope I've no further to go
Hope I've no further to go

I'm not afraid to be standing on that day
But I'd like to know if it's near or far away
    Is sorrow here to stay?

(wordless line to end)

So that's that. unfortunately when I went to sing it again today I realized I'd lost some of the melody, so I'm reconstructing it, and getting used to it again. oh well. still working, trying to figure out whether or not dad and I will be able to or want to do a character transfer. I checked out the target server, and the lag's not bad, so it's really up to dad and the rules. look for a recording of the song soon hopefully, when my computer isn't being quite so finicky with the power.
