He's here! Cedric was born 2:04 this morning at home after an intense four hour labor. Daddy braved the glop and goo and caught him. We're all just chilling out now and happily getting acquainted. Nursing is going well, I feel great, just tired of course.

He was not groovin' on the earthside vibe. In fact he was pretty ticked off for a solid fifteen minutes.

But then he discovered the wonder of boob,

We all wanted to sleep in today I guess. Dave said he'd be up with the boys. I woke up to two - TWO - cell phone alarms going off at the same time, set right next to me. /growl/ And one of the tones is fricken Night Rider if you can imagine how annoying that sounds.

So I get over that, get the kids out the door as swiftly as possible, and make the mistake of turning the computer on to ckeck emails before going back to bed - my appt reminder popped up. Liam and Donovan have an appt to get these warts they have checked out - I'd like them burned off because OTC stuff didn't work and I can't afford to keep trying other OTC stuff. At ten. That means we have to get them out at around quarter after nine (boy I better get moving), get to the clinic by 9:45 because they have some be 15 minutes early rule thing.

I was also trying to meet up with someone who wanted to buy a video game off of me on base this morning, had forgotten about the appt...and they wanted 10:30. How do I manage to make one day out of a whole month so complicated? I swear I never go do anything and then wham it's all at once.

Maybe while I'm on base I can see if there's baby stuff at the Bargain Barn (a place so great I once scored Hanna jammie bottoms brand new for a buck-something) I'm still looking for a changing pad to put on my dresser. I finally emailed a mama from the local group about one she had for sale for cheap and wouldn't you know someone beat me to it just this weekend.

So no one gets to sleep in now - muahahahaha. Off to make coffee and kick multi-alarm setter out of bed.

If a boy: Cedric Arthur Gary

Dave kept turning up his nose at Cedric but I just kept coming back to it. I liked it the best and it seemed to go well with Arthur for a middle name which was decided on a while ago. We also figured, if we'd be honoring my uncle because he's passed on then why not honor his father too - hence, Gary.

If a girl: Maeve Gwennan

Gwennan was a funny one. I felt it went the best with Maeve right away. After doing some digging around I learned that with two Ns it is Welsh for "blessed" but take away an N and it becomes Irish for "blister on the skin" - niiiiice. Yeah, we'll stick with two Ns then, lol.

And also importantly, they both flow well combined with our last name. They all follow my rules of no rhyming, no onomonapiea (that's extreme anyways), on the side of not common (yes I am aware of the Harry Potter syndrome, but wasn't thinking of Harry Potter when Cedric up and struck me, honestly) and all originate from some language branch in the current UK.

Shew, glad that's over with! That was the most arduous time we have given ourselves in naming a new arrival. As I'm now 40 wk 1 day DPO, that's a relief.

A week (or so) in review

I discovered that Dave did snap one picture at Myrtle Beach, the view of the ocean from our balcony. (oh yeah, that was a great trip! We went spur of the moment, just the two of us, last week, courtesy of the Army. It was a two night/three day marriage retreat)

About 39 weeks here. By my calculations, tomorrow is 40 weeks for me.

Happiness is a Birthday Cake.
Rhiannon picked out the sprinkles at the store and helped me put them on. Notice Daddy picked out pink birthday candles to go on it.

I spent the past hour slowly transferring some music files onto a thumbnail drive to take them from our old harddrive onto our new one - project being we are trying to get all of our music into one spot. (later on I'm going to try to retrieve my pictures files). I then move the music files from the thumbnail into the music player (iTunes). Everything plays fine. The thumbnail drive is totally full (it's Dave's from work so it has work stuff on it shhhhhh) so I have to delete the music files off of it to be able to go and get more. After I do that, I recheck the files on iTunes. A message pops up and it won't play because I deleted the file off the thumbnail! GAAAAAAH!

So I ate a big fat brownie and am now contemplating a newer stratagy. I had no problems doing transferring from a thumbnail onto the harddrive on my laptop. If I ever get my laptop to work again (I think it may be the power supply suddenly shot itself this time) I'm wiping my stuff off of it and we're returning it from whence it came - because Acer is crap.

All I want is my music and my older pictures. Geesh! It's my fault for not trying to take care of this when the laptop spent two weeks actually working though.

Eta: Found all my pictures, and still working on the music - remembered to back it up onto the harddrive before getting them into a player, lol. I'm only able to move about 110-130 songs at a time so it's slow going. I'm glad for a lot of the music I have retrieved though, because so much of the hard copies were stolen out of our car this spring. Next, I will be looking for my text documents.

Time seems to be both flying by and holding still at the same time. I know, how can that be? I think having settled into a weekday routine that makes the days fly by combined with the arduousness of of the last weeks of pregnancy which makes time drag on has something to do with it.

My brain has been shutting down, full of baby I suppose. I'm also sicker than I was a few days ago with this cold even though I have totally taken it easy. Right now coughing is wearing me out and I feel like I never slept last night. (I also pulled muscles around my tummy, ow). I'm pretty sure the strain of coughing made me lose some mucous plug yesterday, there was definitely some present. It's hard to breath even (tmi) between the mucous in my lungs and the baby pushing up on them with his feetsies and bum. But on the bright side, my head is finally mostly clear!

I think I'll be taking a blogging break, at least be on the quiet side for a while, though I'll be sure to pipe up with anything important!

Down and out

I came down with a minor cold late last week, that I imagine I picked up from the kids or from Dave. It became a sinus infection but wasn't horrible or anything. But, then the sinus infection started bothering my tooth that still needs attention and by Saturday I was wincing. By last night I was in tears. Actually sobbing through the peaks.

I've had a handful of very painful toothaches that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemies, but I've never experienced anything that brought me to my knees like that. I was almost hyperventilating and I don't hyperventilate. All I could think was "I'd rather be in labor, or anything but this". The only other time pain brought me to continual tears was when I broke my little toe - and I didn't so much as even pop a tylenol then.

By 3 or 4 am this morning when things finally settled down enough for me to drift off to sleep, I'd consumed a total of five Tylenol, 800 mgs of ibuprofin, squirted out almost a half a tube of Orajel, and used and chewed on a few cloves of garlic. Yeouch. I'm usually really judicious with the painkillers, especially when pregnant, but last night I just did not care. Things would subside for a bit, and then come screaming back. It felt like someone was stabbing me in the eye, the temple, my cheek, and add that to the pain radiating through my whole upper right jaw. I also double dosed on Dave's generic antibiotics leftovers from last month, just in case, and took two more today, even though I know that spells yeast infection for me. That's how bad I didn't care.

I woke up this morning exhausted but the pain was 98% gone: I could feel a twinge where the worst of it was that made me nervous but thankfully nothing developed. I'm still kind of shell shocked from the whole thing. When you break a bone or a molar, or go through back labor, you think wow, that was about the peak of pain right there, it sucked, but I'm ok. Nothing I've experienced could touch this though. I now know what my threshold limit is lol. Good to know?

Oh, the dental ins. finally kicks in next month, and I'll be trying for appt's as soon as I get my cards in the mail next week. So, help is coming, eventually.

My sinus infection has mostly subsided though I'm a bit stuffed up still, yet the cold went down in my chest. Everything from the throat down feels raw. But I'm so thankful (knock on wood) that the blinding stabbing pain hasn't come back that I hardly mind. I'm just going to devote the next few days taking it easy - though, I mostly was taking it easy to begin with hahaha. I don't expect baby to be here for a few more weeks but I want to be sure I'm feeling ok for when I do go into labor!

Well, now we're waiting from a call from the specialist to make an appointment, though we were already told it would be at least a 3 to 4 month wait. I'm hoping (and will ask) if they do the thing where you can be put on a call list in case there is a cancellation and we might be able to get in sooner.

With school starting back up, I'm not surprised to now have a sinus infection. The kids had slight coughs last week but nothing to write home about. But Dave got sick and poof the next day, I'm knocked on my rear. I took two naps today, and at 10:20 I am ready for bed.

My local area was all agog over Tropical Storm Hanna. One news station had a 24 hour on air broadcast of it. I was mildly amused at the hubbub until sending Dave to the store and the last two loaves of bread on the shelf were super-expensive kinds. There was flooding in some parts, but we didn't lose power, or even experience too much wind gusts. I'm feeling for those people in TX though, who are staring down Hurricane Ike.

So far Liam has had good days yesterday and today. /fingers crossed
