| Ten Mile TennesseeWell, am I stranger yet? I can't promise that I will update a whole lot but I came across a song that I thought I might share with guys. My dad was listening to the bluegrass station one day and a song titled "Ten Mile Tennessee" was playing. Well, he stopped dead in his tracks and asked me to upload the song so he could have it. Now, any song about Tennessee would be special to our family; however, Ten Mile holds a special place in our hearts. It is a very small and unheard of town. But Ten Mile is where my dad grew up and to a degree so did my sister and I. Every summer since I can remember, we would spend several weeks out of the year at my grandma and grandpa Butler's house. And the majority of my dad's side of the family lived in Ten Mile as well. I remember in the summer my sister and I would spend our days swimming in my grandma's lake and catch lightning bugs at night. There was always a night where we would sit on the little porch to talk about anything and everything -- well the adults did, ha. My grandparents even had their own store right next to their house that my sister, my cousin, and I would have garage sales. Even our mess ups I remember. My gandma would make these delicious bumpy cookie that my sister and I would sneak before dinner. And many times I remember my sister taking joy ride on my grandpa's tracker. The Butler-Reed cemetery is still up the hill across from my grandma's old house where many of my relatives lay to rest. It is also the place that my dad will go out of his way to pass by a barn that he and his buddies built some 30 years ago. And yes, it is still standing and yes my dad will never let us forget it. :) I have many memories of Ten Mile Tennessee. It is a place that, really, the only ones who truly know about it are the ones who've been there, which is why I was pleasantly surprised when I heard this song. Just below the Cumberland’s Green rocks girded slopes Where the Tennessee winds aimlessly Through the flatlands down below Where the morning dew hangs heavy On the weeping willow tree There’s a place that times been slow to change Called Ten Mile Tennessee
Just a grocery store, an apple stand Surrounded by the Tennessee pasture land An old man sittin’ on his front porch swing talking to his dog while he’s breaking beans It’s a long, long way from where I am To where I long to be In the foothills of the Blue Ridge Up in Ten Mile Tennessee
Ten Mile Tennessee I can hear you callin me Back to a simple place in time I’m going back some day Where the children run and play And the sage fields gently sway In Ten Mile Tennessee Now all these things that I recall Of a place that I passed thru one fall The amber leaves, would soon be gone But the memory still lingers on And for a moment in the stillness I escape reality Just caught up in the peaceful ways Of Ten Mile Tennessee
Ten Mile Tennessee I can hear you callin me Back to a simple place in time I’m going back some day Where the children run and play And the sage fields gently sway In Ten Mile Tennessee

| Doing withoutSo these past few days have been interesting to say the least. Monday our water stopped working. Why? Well, after 13 years of having the same well pipes, my dad wanted to replace them. BUT...when the workers were taking the old pipes apart one snapped off and fell into the well. I don't know all the inky details except that they, for some reason, couldn't get the pipe out. SO...they had to drill another hole today, Wednesday. It's been interesting trying to cope with no running water. We rented a room at the Holiday Inn. Not to stay in, just to take showers. Gallon bottles of water for things like coffee, washing hands, washing face. I used seltzer water to brush my teeth. That was fun! Oh, the best part was flushing the toilet with pool water. Sorry for the weirdness but it's interesting the lengths we (I) go to when a part of our (my) lives are temporarily missing. Well, all is back to normal. AND...........school is out for the summer!!!!!!! Peace, Jessica | | |
| Finals are this week. I had a take-home final for wellness that I didn't start until about midnight last night and finished up around 2:30am. Yeah, I got that assignment a week ago. Nothing new for me. I was planning on going to sleep between 2:30-3am, but my dog (his house is right outside my bedroom door) kept hearing things in our yard. SO, piratically every time I was about to fall asleep he would charge out of his house scaring the crap out of me. My eyes are burning due to lack of sleep. I think my dog is senile. Physically he is fine, but mentally I'm not quite sure. He is twelve years old. We are now buying him Senior Milk Bones. Apparently they are softer to not crack his fragile, old, warn out teeth. I don't know, he seems to like them. I know, I'm rambling but I had to turn in my wellness final at 8am and my next final isn't until 12:30. Oh, last night I found out that my dad has to go to Washington DC for training and, well, working for 7 weeks the week after mother's day. He is already commuting to and from Tampa. I'm going to have to talk to these people, this just isn't working out for me. Alright, let's see........am I missing anything? Nope, I'm done. Jessica | | |
