HORRIBLE NYC Broker...read on...beware

I had the most horrible experience yesterday and I still can't believe it has happened to me. I'm usually not the type of person to write complaining blogs, but this broker's behavior was sooooo completely out of line that i have to warn everyone who's looking for apartments in NYC. If you don't have time to read the details, just remember: STAY AWAY FROM CITY CONNECTIONS REALTY. They provide horrible service, make false promises, YELL at clients, and they are completely unprofessional. All they want is your $$$.

Yesterday was the official move-in date for me (yes, that's right, on April Fool's Day). I was very excited about it, and looking forward to picking up the keys. So Rich and I went to my apartment building, chatted with the friendly doorman and picked up the keys. We went upstairs and entered the apartment, and omg, we were horrified when we saw the apartment...none of the repair, cleaning, repainting listed in the lease has been done. I was really mad and called the broker. He told me to talk to the maintenance of the building, which was completely nonsense; the owner is responsible for fixing the apartment, and the broker needs to make sure everything listed on the lease is performed.

I called the broker again; this time, I was very firm and told him that if everything is not fixed by Wed, I will not be paying rent. The broker completely flipped out and started yelling at me. Below are some of the ridiculous and horrible things he said to me:

me: i will not be paying rent until everything is fixed
br: do not threat me, that is not how you talk to another human being. you are completely unprofessional and rude (is he talking about himself?)

br: it is not my responsibility to make sure the apartment is ready. it is assumed that things listed on the lease will be performed. (that's so wrong; his job IS to make sure both sellers and buyers get what they're supposed to get)

me: you should communicate better with your associate (who is responsible for directly contacting the owner. he's supposed to contact me).
br: do not tell me how i should run the business

br: I have done my very best; I am not going to let you make me feel I am not doing a good job

br: every time you call, all you do is DEMAND DEMAND DEMAND
me: give me examples of what i've demanded from you
br: well...i lowered the commission for you, I negotiated the rent for you (that's complete BS! that's how business works; everyone negotiates, all brokers negotiate. that's part of his job!)

br: I have many customers and I cannot cater to every single detail during the move-in process. (if you can't, then you're incompotent. stop convincing yourself that you're doing a good job)

and the list goes on...he called today and continued to make all kinds of excuses. his associate kinda made him apologize, but i told him it's too late; all I want is everything to be fixed by Wed. We'll see how things go. I completely lose trust in them, I will not believe in anything they say.

So please, please, please, stay away from them. I am more than happy to give you the name of the broker. Just email me if interested. Spread this post, warn your friends, family, anyone you know of who will be moving to NYC.

I just want to thank everyone who came to defmo showcase on Sunday. It really means a lot to me. It's my last time performing on stage, with my defmo family....I'm gonna miss you all so much.

Mum and dad: thanks so much for flying all the way from Hong Kong to come to showcase, and I'm really glad that you liked it. :) I had the best weekend ever, even though I was very busy preparing for showcase and finishing up my homework. I'll see you in a few weeks!

Rich: thanks for being so patient all the time, and helping me stay focused. Taking me to practice, picking me up late at night, giving me a massage when my body is really sore from practice...you're the best.

Bev: you're the best roommate ever. You're always so patient with me, listening to me talk about really random stuff, coming to all the defmo major performances for the pat 4 years. I'm really glad that I got to know you, and got to be roommates with you our senior year. I'm going to miss you after graduation...we'll visit each other during weekends with our free plane tickets, ok?

defMo family: My college life would have been sooo different if I weren't part of defMo, and you guys really made the past four years one of the most memorable times in my life...All choreographers did a great job to make showcase sooo awesome, dancers in fly - thanks so much for putting with me. You guys did a great job. :) And everyone else - I'm running out of words, all I can think of is that I'm gonna miss you all sooo much, and I'll try to come back to showcase and see you guys next year~

Chloe, Siu Chung, Jingyi, Ravi, Liz, Gloria, Xinfeng...think I'm missing A LOT of people...but HUUUUGE thanks to all of you for supporting defMo!! (
