and the sun will set for you

Welp, here's some of the recent work I've done. Most of them are WiPs (Work in Process) though.

1-3

4-6

Rin
I did more of a cel-shading look for this piece. I found some chiyogami around the house and scanned it. I used it for some of the clothing textures. This didn't turn out nearly as good as I wanted it to. A little bit of Oh! great influence.

Genbu and Suzaku
I drew this and inked it on paper. I just cleaned it up a bit and added the funky orange background in Photoshop.

Waitress
I drew this and inked it on paper. This one was really quick(~1 1/2 hours). This was slightly inspired by Oh! great. Originally drawn to practice using copic markers on.

Miya-chan
I didn't like the face of the original, which you can find on my previous post. After studying some of Shunya Yamashita's way of drawing faces, I redid it.

Techno Witch Min
This the current WiP I'm workin on. I did a rough sketch just to get out some ideas on paper. I drew the lineart using corel painter X and started painting it in Photoshop. This is my second attempt at a "painting" method. It takes so much time! The lineart has alot of detail too. I'll probably redo the hair and touch up some of the skin. I've only applied the base colors to the clothing and have yet to do her potion cannon/"broomstick" Leviathan. The next in the series will be either a Techno Kunoichi or a Techno Pirate ;]. Stay tuned!

Leviathan
Here is Min's Leviathan, a potion cannon which doubles as her "flying broomstick." She can make various potions and throw 'em in to change the type of ammunition it has. The Leviathan is modeled slightly after the Honda CBR600 sports bike.

So as you may or may not see, I've been studying Oh! great and Yamashita Shunya. I just love the portrait pictures Yamashita-san does. If you have ever seen the covers of Oh! Great's manga, you know that they're nothing short of extraordinary. Unfortunately Oh! great doesn't have a blog or website, but Yamashita-san does!

Here's some of his work if you are interested!

Arttttt Attack! (Links)
aaaand I'll leave it at that. These are all japanese artist's sites!

edit: damn xanga sucks! had to edit the post like 5 times to get it right. and the popup thing is annoying! i guess i'll make a blog later ;p.

Heaven only knows...

...and John Legend is the man.

My Prayers are with those who lost someone in the tragic shooting at VA Tech yesterday...
It's a scary thing... that a scenario like this could even happen at my school.

que pasa everyone. I'll avoid writing stuff....and just get to the guud stuff.

Losing "everything" to gain something greater- A Short Testimony

I got an oilburn more than a week ago from tenpura frying. This is one of the worst I've had in a while. It still hurts if I touch it. It almost feels as if the burning has sunken into my bone. Oh well...as long as the flesh isn't coming off, it's all good!

hehe, anyways...

I've been searching for a song for three months now. I finally found out the song name and have it.
Alex Megane - I Think of You (Accuface's High Energy Mix)

I can't really quite explain it. It feels like I've discovered a missing part of me, lol. I guess this is the Theme song of my life...for now.

Life has changed so much this year. It's kind of unsettling. 40+hours of work along with being a full-time student, the stress of dealing with a 200-seat failing restaurant, the fear of losing everything after it failed, no money even working that much, low grades in class, no running rx-7, etc.

Actually, things turned out for the better. Kind of ironic, huh? I can't tell you how stressful it is to be burdened with such a HUGE restaurant with little experience. Workers not being able to make it, complaining customers, short supplies, high employee wages, not enough customers, etc- are just some of the things a restaurant offers you. I can't even imagine what my parents were going through. Sometimes I think they would have gone mentally-ill if we had kept it any longer. I saw my dad break down one time, like I've never seen him before. Undoubtably, there are many things we learned. They say that many successful business men usually go under one or two times before getting things right. Anyways, I learned many cooking techniques from some of the top japanese chefs in GA for free basically. Two years of experience being a japanese chef is something that can't be taken away.

We lost the restaurant, we lost the house, and I thought that we would lose some of our hope. Along with it I lost my HOPE scholarship. The End of the World? lol, not that dramatic. This family is strong and has faith in God. A strong family will make it through the tough times. We have a much much smaller house now, that we rent. It's better that way, I think. The old house was so big that you could go through the majority of the day without seeing someone for more than 5 minutes if you wanted to (over-exaggerating). This small, cozy house has brought us together even more, I think- and that's always a good thing. Financially, we're starting back slowly but not surviving is nothing to consider.

For me, things have been so great since "the loss." I still work quite a bit 25~hours, but nothing compared to 40+. I'm finally getting a cash flow too. The new restaurant I work at is really great too. It's really small. It only seats 40 people at a time. Everyone who works their is japanese, except for the one mexican dishwasher. I don't have to worry about too much. All I have to do I cook (like it's that easy (´_ゝ`))! The quality of the food we produce is top-notch, just like the old restaurant, and get along well with everyone. Ege Sushi and Japanese Cuisine

My FC has been running great for the past few months. I've been doing very well in school. I get plenty of sleep now. I wouldn't say life is easier now or anything, but it is a lot more stress-free.

So yea, I'm still "busy as a bee," because that's how I like it. I don't even have time to play video games or draw! _| ̄|○

I hope everyone is going to enjoy their end of the year! I guess sometimes "everything" isn't really important afterall? Be grateful everyday for what you have, and don't complain because there are ALWAYS people in worse situations. That's my life philosophy.

Ken

It's been a while since I've paid a visit to the Oricon. Here's some of the things I like.

I don't know if any of you guys listen to japanese music..other than myself. But yea....Goto Maki is pulling a brittney spears/christina aguilera/lindsay lohan. Just search Goto Maki - SOME BOYS! TOUCH on youtube or something. I'm really suprised to see this. It's more like something Kouda Kumi would do. I hope Ayaya doesn't go through "that stage."

WHOA. I spoke too soon. Number 29 on the monthly Oricon ranking (Goto Maki was 24) is GAM, which consists of Fujimoto Miki and Matsuura Aya. They kiss at the end? Big suprise.

There's nothing amazingly good on the japanese charts right now. I guess GAM's Melody is decent. The two Gospellers songs are good(19 & 20). Tokio's sorafune is not bad(5). Nightmare's the WORLD is good(18). Kyosuke Himuro's Sweet Revolution is recommended as well. SMAP's stuff is always #1. I never really got into SMAP. Ayaka's  三日月 (3) is probably my favorite song from the list.

Park Yong Ha's 君が最高!is "cute." (17 on charts)
Kimi ga saikouuu! lol

This one is cute and funny. Kigurumi- Tarako tarako tarako (15 on the charts)

Chemistry is one of my fav. japanese duos. Their song 約束の場所 is really good(12)!

Oh well... cold weather is SUPER EUROBEAT TIME!

Disregard my last post ;]. I suppose there is nothing like blogging on Xanga once in a while, heh.

I just got done with one of my assignments for my philosophy class. I had to read an essay by Louis P. Pojman called "Ethical Relativism Versus Ethical Objectivism". I just wanted to share something that he wrote that was interesting.
"Imagine that you have been miraculously tranported to the dark kingdom of hell, and there you get a glimpse of the sufferings of the damned. What is their punishment? Well, they have eternal back itches that ebb and flow constantly. But they canot scratch their backs, for their arms are paralyzed in a frontal position. And do they writhe with itchiness through eternity. But just as you are beginning to feel the itch in your own back, you are suddenly transported to heaven. What do you see in the kingdom of the blessed? Well you see people with eternal back itches, who cannot scratch their own backs. But they are all smiling instead of writhing. Why? Because everyone has his or her arms stretched out to scratch someone else's back, and, so arranged in one big circle, a hell is turned into a heaven of ecstacy."

So far, this Pojman essay is one of the best philosophical papers I've read, atleast in terms of what I agree with. We'll be discussing this in class tomorrow, so my opinion could always change XD.

Other than studying, I've been desperately trying to slip in time to play videogames and maintain a social life. Work is really not making things any easier, but I can't complain- I make good money.

I snagged a set of used JIC SF-1 coilovers for the car for $455 shipped. They are out-of-production, but used to retail for around $1400. Quite a steal.

I just picked up my FFXII today...and I had to pick up PSU last week. I still haven't beat Star Ocean 3....

Elections are next Tuesday. I finally registered to vote. TIME TO GO TO THE POLLS and MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

I leave you with a poem I really like, which I read in my Perspectives class on Latin Culture. The original is in spanish, so I'm using the translated version my professor provided.

Sonatina
by Rubén Darío

The Princess is sad. What ails the Princess?
Nothing but sighs escape from her lips,
which have lost their smile and their strawberry red.
The Princess is pale in her golden chair,
the keys of her harpsichord gather dust,
and a flower, forgotten, droops in its vase.

The garden is bright with the peacocks' triumph,
the duenna prattles of commonplace things,
the clown pirouettes in his crimson and gold;
but the Princess is silent, her thoughts are far-off:
the Princess traces the dragonfly course
of a vague illusion in the eastern sky.

Are her thoughts of a prince of Golconda or China?
Of a prince who has halted his silver coach
to see the soft light that glows in her eyes?
Of the king of the fragrant isle of roses,
or the lord who commands the clear-shining diamonds,
or the arrogant lord of the pearls of Ormuz?

Alas, the poor Princess, whose mouth is a rose,
would be a swallow or butterfly;
would skim on light wings, or mount to the sun
on the luminous stair of a golden sunbeam;
would greet the lilies with the verses of May,
or be lost in thw wind on the thundering sea.

She is tired of the palace, the silver distaff,
the enchanted falcon, the scarlet buffoon,
the swans reflected on the azure lake.
And the flowers are sad for the flower of the court:
the jasmines of the east, the water lilies of the north,
the dahlias of the west, and the roses of the south.

The poor little Princess with the wide blue eyes
is imprisoned in her gold, imprisoned in her tulle,
in the marble cage of the royal palace,
the lofty palace that is guarded by sentries,
by a hundred negroes with a hundred halberds,
a sleepless greyhound, and a monstrous dragon.

Oh to be a butterfly leaving its cocoon!
(The Princess is sad. The Princess is pale.)
Oh adorable vision of gold, ivory, and rose!
Oh to fly to the land where there is a prince-
(The Princess is sad. The Princess is pale.)-
more brilliant than daybreak, more handsome than April!

"Hush, Princess, hush," says her fairy godmother;
"the joyous knight who adores you unseen
is riding this way on his winged horse,
a sword at his waist and a hawk on his wrist,
and comes from far off, having conquered Death,
to kindle your lips with a kiss of true love!"
