That would be the Tootsie Tot in the middle of the city. Awkward? I think not.
Also I got my camp pics back... --> http://photobucket.com/albums/a184/JoelToBrazil/
So Lollapalooza this weekend was pretty sweet.
Day 1: Redwalls (equipped with autographs)
M83 (French techno? rock?)
Kaiser Chiefs
Cake
Billy Idol (Only Billy can pull off the heterosexual look WITH tight leather pants)
Primus
Walkmen
Pixies
Weezer (Played mostly old stuff, thank god)
Day 2: Dinosaur Jr. (J. Mascis is AMAZING at guitar...)
Tegan and Sara (Only half a set, sara passed out because of the 107ยบ heat)
The Arcade Fire (So good live)
The Killers
Spoon (What else is there to say?)
Death Cab
Enjoyable? Heck yes.

| Okay, so basically today was pretty amazing.

It was today ^^, and even though none of MY friends wanted to go with
me... they definitely missed out. I chilled all day with my
brother and his friends and quite a time was had. Started off with some
Jamba Juice beforehand (an excellent way to begin your day), then
went off to Union Park.
We missed Pelican and Head of Femur, but I hadnt heard of them before,
so I really didn't care that much. I have to admit, though, I hadn't
heard of most of the bands there, it's a REALLY indie lineup.
We got there just before The M's came on. They were like a mix between The Redwalls and The Strokes; a good combination.
Then was AC Newman, the singer from The New Pornographers' side
project. The set was pretty good, and the few songs I knew were played
really well. Miracle Drug is a good one by him.
After that was Magnolia Electric Company. I was eating during their set, but supposedly it was really good.
THEN Broken Social Scene

One of the best sets I've ever seen... ever. I'd heard their album "You
Forgot It in People," but didn't like them nearly as much as I do now.
They had 4 guitarists (11 people all together) but it all worked out so
well. It was so intricately constructed, and just flat out fantastic
music. They closed with my favorite, KC Accidental.
We just chilled through some other bands untill the Chicago native closer, Tortoise.

These guys were the perfect finisher. They're an all
instrumental band with some of the most musically talented people
you'll find. 2 drum sets, vibes, xylophone, trumpet, bass, guitar,
synth and an array of other instruments, everyone switching around each
song, with one of those iTunes visualisers going on a big screen behind
them just to add to the effect.
One of the best songs was Ten-Day Interval, which started off with two
guys playing in 3/4 time on the xylophone while someone else was
playing the vibes in 1/2 time (?), but it tied together perfectly
somehow. The song was just a perfectly orchistrated jam for about 10
minutes transforming it into something just barely recognizable
by the end. Controlled chaos.
As we were leaving I got some free ribs from the Robinson's stand, and
then went to the Billy Goat before the el ride home. What better way to
end a day.
Now my legs are tired as shit and I'm going to lie down.

| Back from camp! And thank you for everyone that wrote me, it's much
appreciated. For those of you that didnt, you can go die or something.

this kid = fricking awesome! He was one of the little guys I was in charge of
The couple days I've been back have been really good; I saw War of the
Worlds and Batman (filmed in good ol' Chi-Town) and went tubing just
offshore of downtown. Then today's the 4th, although we didnt have any
fireworks of our own... sad.
I'm really excited for the rest of the summer, though.
This weekend I might go up to summerfest (fingers crossed), then next week I'm going on vacation with my family.
July 16th & 17th is the Intonation music festival in Union
Park, $22, for anyone that wants to come. It's a lot of indie bands,
Tortoise, Broken Social Scene, Thunderbirds Are Now!, AC Newman, The
Decemberists... etc.
July 23rd & 24th is Lollapalooza! Soooooo many bands there:
Pixies, Weezer, Killers, Primus, Dinosaur Jr., Cake, Death Cab, Spoon,
The (International) Noise Conspiracy, Dandy Warhols, Kaiser Chiefs, The
Redwalls, Soulive, The Walkmen, Billy Idol....
Just to name a few.
Basically I'm really excited.
I'll leave you with a challenge
20 points to whoever can guess what this is first:
