I figure I should probably post so people don't think I have
fallen off the edge of the Earth. I really don't have much to write other than
a recap of selected events of my break so far with commentary.
So far I’ve read or at least started….
Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code both by Dan Brown
Both were well written and heretical. I
thought Angels and Demons was a better written and less heretical.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
This was a pretty good book, but in my opinion, Emily is definitely no
Charlotte Bronte.
Anthony T. Rossi, Christian and Entrepreneur: The Story
of the Founder of Tropicana
This is a book for
my personal finance class next semester.
Jen donated the book to me last and I wanted to put off reading the two
below books so I decided to read it. It
was really good. I’ll probably skim it quickly sometime next semester.
Society in Focus: Fourth Edition by William E. Thompson,
Joseph V. Hickey
I’m reading a
sociology textbook so I can take a CLEP test to get out of actually taking
Sociology so I can fit personal finance into my schedule. I have 173 pages of
this read so far. My wonderful girlfriend let me borrow it. Granted it is one
edition out of date, but given the fact that new editions of textbooks come out
every few years, it’s not that bad. It also has lots of nice pictures and text
boxes.
Mark of a Man by Elisabeth Elliot
I’ve read 146 pages
of this so far. It’s an older book about
why feminism is bad and unbiblical. I’m supposed to read it and write a seven
page paper on it for Professor Hsieh. It was part of a deal to let a
psychology class I took at community college over winter break count towards
the psychology part of my degree. I am
not a huge fan of the book and its idea, so writing the paper might be a bit of
a challenge. I was assigned to write
said paper over last Christmas break. I’m
counting on the fact that he forgot about the paper. I got an A in his class last semester and he
wrote me a nice letter of recommendation for a scholarship, so if he remembers,
he isn’t holding it against me.
Searching for God Knows What (The Blue like Jazz sequel)
by Donald Miller
We are supposed to
read this by the end of summer for JSO. Right
now I have the first chapter started. One chapter is better than nothing. I have heard this is not as good as Blue Like
Jazz, but we shall wait and see.
I’ve primed and painted the rod iron railings on our of
our balcony.
It wasn’t all that
fun, and I got a pretty bad sun burn on my back. I learned from that experience that I should
never paint stuff ever again because its not fun and I am bad at it.
Assisted in the cutting and future burning of a big tree.
Last week (when it
was supper hot) a tree feel in our yard. When it fell over its roots manages to
lift up the club house that was next to it. The tree is now cut up and parts of
it are going to be burnt next week in a giant pile at the end of our road, or
on some cold winter night to heat my dad’s friends’ house. The 15 + year club house is a little bit crooked, and kind of wobbly, but
its pretty much safe.
Helped my sister move all her stuff out of her apartment
and into her house.
Jen got a nice job
in Lombard at a Methodist church. The church
gave her a pretty sweet house. If you know my sister, you probably know that
she has a ton of stuff. Needless to say, it was a long day.
Played with lots of kids.
My mom baby sits a
lot of kids till about 5 PM everyday.
They are fun, but can be brats. Overall they aren’t to bad. Today’s only
major problem was when Thane (a four year old boy) kept crying because his twin
sister and my four year old cousin wouldn’t let him play Polly Pocket with
them.
P.S. I start work at
Blackhawk Baptist Camp on the 16th of June
