Sunshine!

For those who have been following the hidden messages, so blatantly written on these pages . . .

My dad just had a follow up test to check on the surgery's effectiveness, and the results were great!  As far as the doctors can tell, he is now completely cancer free.

Thank you all for praying with me while we were waiting.  Now, all I, we, can do is praise God for His goodness, mercy, and faithfulness.  To Him in whom we live, and move, and have our being, to the only wise God be honor, and glory, and majesty, world without end!

"Lord help me to relax about insignificant details beginning tomorrow at 11:41.23 am e.s.t."

AAAAaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!
I can't take it anymore!  The pressure of not having deadlines is killing me!    How can I possibly use up every fleeting moment of vacation in the most relaxing and restorative way?  Arg, I stayed up late and got up later again today.    Now I missed my casual gardening and music practice.    Should I cut down on pleasure reading, or just stay up late again tonight?

And of course, once I finally get into something of a Summer schedule (naturally revolving around food), it will probably at the exact same time that I also get a job along with its new routine.  Hrumph.    Forget this, it is way too hard to do nothing.  Will someone please tell me to write a paper or something?

But, of course with all this annoying free time, I am still way too busy to paint a bedroom or finish a basement--where do you begin anyway?  That would mean giving up channel surfing or staring out the window while pretending to read.  So, don't even think of asking me to do chores, mom.  That would take away time that I could be using to do volunteer counseling, study the GRE, brush up on foreign languages, read philosophy, or convince the governor to take me on staff--it would take away time from all of the dreams I could be (but am not) putting into action.

Oh, gotta run, the chimes are telling me that I finally have something to do -- LUNCH TIME!

But, hey, if you are half as confused as I am, give me a ring and we can talk about wasting time/working together.

After the rain

When you hear "Cancer," what do you think? -- survivor commercials, Lance Armstrong, and pink ribbons.  Or do you still sometimes sober up and think of the little bald boy with emaciated arms in a hospital gown?  Usually the threat is farther away.  You can think of distant acquantances and distant relations who have faced the struggle.  There were sad stories, but they weren't particularly yours.  You couldn't see or feel the fear or pain.

Then there were closer stories.  Too close.  Someone you know lost a friend.  Another dear friend lost a dearer mother.  It was cancer.  Pose that against the survivor stories and yellow bracelets.  It is the other scary side that they are all pointing to and urging someone to do something about.

Then you might hear that it is your own friend, your father who has cancer.  Which perspective do you think of most?  It helps if you know that the cancer is "nonagressive" and contained.  It is still cancer, but it is one of those with lots of survivors.  Oh, there's nothing to fear, but fear . . . or maybe worse.  Clouds make a silver lining.

But then there is the dreaded surgery and everything goes well.  Recovery goes well.  And if hopes are realized there won't even be a trace of that frightful disease and there will be no radiation or chemo destroying the soul to save the body.  So, things may turn out alright after all.  There is still a Lance Armstrong, and those TV comercials have real people.  Perhaps another dad will be one of them.

Hurry up and wait . . .

Just a whirlwind of caps and gowns!

Then a little sleep . . .

before the craziness!

Lots of work and a little play

It's been a busy couple of weeks in and out (way out) of the state.
