  • Hello

I'm not sure who, if anyone, is still reading.

I am guilty of not updating, but then again, I probably have some good excuses.  Please, my loyal readers, don't leave! :)  I got married to J in 2008, and our daughter was born in 2010.

These days, I mainly read / post stuff to Facebook and Twitter. I hope everyone is doing well.

  • playstation 3

Like YJK76, I too, got a PS 3.  There was a deal to get not only $150 by using the Sony credit card (which I already had, so I had to get J to apply), but another $100 off by buying two Blu-ray movies and one game.
It was a deal sponsored by Amazon.com, so you had to choose from a specific set of movies and games.

I chose Iron Man and Blade Runner for the movies, and Little Big Planet for the game.

I normally don't splurge like this but:
    1) it was a good deal
    2) our wedding was filmed in HD, and we have Blu-ray disks of the wedding
    3) I wanted it for Street Fighter IV

Anyway, if you're a Street Fighter fan, there is a collector's edition for both XBOX 360 and PS3.   Having just moved into a new home, and getting married recently, I did not want to splurge for this either!  But I've been playing SF since I was in 10th grade (around '92) and couldn't pass this up, especially once it's gone, it's gone.

Also, there is a free strategy guide in the latest issue of HGM.

  • bad luck!

This honeymoon has been full of bad luck.  Read on for the details.... :(

    Lost digital camera
First day, we lost our digital camera.  We asked the bus company and driver, and they didn't receive or find the camera. We even went back to the bus stop and the security guard there didn't find it either.  Keep in mind we went back on the SAME exact bus about 1 hour later to find it and went back to the spot where we could've lost it about 1 hour later as well, and we couldn't it find it anywhere.

So we bought a cheapo Kodak and found out it cost 2x its MSRP!

    Food sickness
So we got $150 in Marriott cash, since we are Marriott timeshare owners, and we listened in on a presentation. So we decided to eat at a nice restaurant, and while I normally eat sushi and raw oysters all the time, this time something wasn't right....about 2 hours later, my ears were burning, and I looked in the mirror....

I HAD A RED FACE, like those guys who always have red faces... and I thought I was eating a little too unhealthily recently and that I should go back to my healthy eating style.  However, I the noticed my chest was red and my back had red bumps, and my arms had bumps as well. I was rushed to the ER and had 2 shots, and was given medicine.  The timeshare security had to drive the waist-deep water at 1100 PM to get me there.

    Weather
So Tuesday, we had our whole day planned but then the concierge advised us not to drive since there was a T-storm coming.... so we stayed in and watched all the roads flood.  There was no where to go and everything started closing.  Wednesday was the same.

    Thursday
Thursday seemed better. It was sunny this morning and we decided we would go out.  The roads were still flooded but not as bad as yesterday.  The staff at the resort still recommended we take a taxi, so we took a cab to the Alto Vista chapel, and took pics to make up for our lost camera.  Then we asked him to take us to the Aloe Factory, which was closed down due to lack of electricity, but the gift shop was still open.  After that, we went downtown to retake all the photos we lost from our original camera.

After that, we got a cab again, to take us to get groceries, then back to our hotel.
We had a nice time grilling food again, and took tons of pics.

So back to the hotel: I try to take the SD card and put it in my reader, and ALL of the photos we took today were GONE!!!!!  Only photos from Tuesday are there! :(

So yeah, so much bad luck............ hope it doesn't get any worse than this.

  • arrival in Aruba

J and I are on our honeymoon in Aruba.  We arrived Saturday afternoon.  I can't believe it was only four hours from NY, but it felt a lot longer than that due to all the kids on the plane.

The person next to me was a grandmother who was trying to put her granddaughter to sleep, but she kept kicking me and wiping her wet fingers all over my clothes.  Not fun.

Anyway, Saturday we ate at a nice beachside restaurant, called Hadicurai.  We took pictures of our dinner: fish soup, steak and chicken salad, mahi mahi, a lightly fried fish with creole sauce, and the dessert was a chocolate trio: chocolate ice cream, cake, and mousse, but we lost our camera (more on this later).

So today, Sunday, we slept in and woke up at 11 am.  We spoke to the concierge and found that almost everything is closed on Sunday!  However, we heard that the Butterfly Farm was open, so we decided to take a walk over there.  It was very educational, and not boring at all!  We learned that you shouldn't spray any pesticides when you see damaged leaves on your plants, because it's just the caterpillars eating leaves, and that is the only way you, and future generations, will see butterflies.

After that, we were about to take a taxi downtown, but some stranger offered us a ride, and I don't know what I was thinking, but I accepted even though I had no idea what language he was speaking, or where he was taking us. His car barely started, and I kept thinking he would take us to some secret warehouse, tell us to get out, and take our money.  However, he ended up taking us downtown where all the shops were, and wouldn't accept any money.  I think we got lucky because I got back to my resort and somehow ended up on the Natalee Holloway story.

So once we got downtown, we gambled a bit (there are lots of casionos).  First we went to Seaport Casino where we played the slots, then checked
out the Crystal Casino, which reminded me of the Bellagio, but wasn't
even half as pretty.  We won $3 playing $0.01 slots at Seaport Casino.   At the Crystal Casion, there were some table games but the way they play blackjack is WEIRD.  The dealer one gives himself ONE card, until all players have played their hands, THEN finally he starts dealing to himself????? WTF?

We wanted to save money, so we finally found some restaurants that were open and we ate at Sbarro.  There are no free refills even though you fill up your own soda.  After that, we took some more pics, and ran to the bus.

After we got off the bus, I wanted to take a picture of the big fish statue in front of the hotel, but J said she couldn't find the camera.  We freaked out, searched all of our bags, but still couldn't find it.  We then had the concierge call the bus line to see if anyone reported a missing camera, but nope.

So we got back on the bus, and it was the same driver. He didn't find any camera, and we sat back in the same seat but it wasn't there either. So we went ALL the way back to where we last took pictures, asked the security guard at the bus stop, and he didn't hear about any camera either.  Some guy tried to be helpful but he said "if it's gone, it's gone" implying it's really stolen, then he had the nerve to hit us up for money for food!  I was in no mood to open my wallet and help out!

So now we're back at the hotel...... hopefully the rest of the week is better.

  • wedding

The wedding was crazy.  Everything just flew by so fast, and I'm not sure the guests felt the same way or not, but one of J's coworkers said it was fast.
I was kinda upset when someone I trusted made a mistake, but overall, it was a good time.  Got lots of compliments about the outdoor wedding and the brunch food, but who knows if it's true, J and I didn't even get to eat anything or really enjoy the string trio.

I'll post a question in a protected post, and post some pics there too, when I get a chance.

  • getting married next Sunday

I haven't blogged in a while.  Mostly busy with work and other hobbies, and to be honest, I got sucked into Facebook as well.  Only because everyone kept bugging me about it, and the typing speed app got me hooked, and I tried to beat everyone else at it.  I'm in 2nd place at 98 WPM.

Anyway, as you can see from the title of this post, I'm getting married next Sunday.  It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone reading this blog, but I did announce that I got engaged back in November, as a protected post, but back then there wasn't a lot of activity on Xanga.

I've also transferred to a new project at a different location, but I'm still with the same company that I joined back in 2005.  Commuting here in Northern VA isn't too bad if you know the back roads, even to popular places such as Tysons Corner and Mclean.

  • iphone 3g

Last year, it was a piece of cake to get the iPhone.  AT&T sold out very quickly, but the Apple Store had plenty, and even the next day, you could walk in at any time of the day, and get one.

But this year, it's a different story.  I didn't get it on launch day since I went to Myrtle Beach.  I did get it a week later and I stood in line for six hours!  I thought I'd go right when it opened, and leave one hour later, but one hour turned into two, two to three, etc.

After a few hours, we were given tickets that guaranteed we were getting a phone.  The popular color seemed to be black, but I wanted something different, so I got a white.

Best of all, this was free from my company! :)

  • finally, a new desktop computer

My Dell desktop died about 2 years ago, and ever since, I've been using an Acer laptop, which was pretty good, but I wanted to return to the Mac world.   So, I got one of these:

It's really fast and quiet, even when I have multiple apps running.  I'm about to install Windows Vista on it (I realize XP is better, but I've heard good things about Vista on macs), and then run my HD video editing software on it, to edit all my vacation videos that have been sitting around and collecting dust.

My laptop, with 1.5 GB of RAM could handle some of the video editing, but not when I threw a 10GB file at it.  Let's see how this Mac Pro handles it.

Oh, and I got a nice Samsung 22" monitor.

  • D.C. Sakura Matsuri 2008

The annual DC cherry blossom festival is Saturday, April 12th, and I was crazy enough to sign up to volunteer for the event.

So I attended the orientation today even though it conflicted with my Japanese language class, and learned that I'll:

    • get a free volunteer t-shirt
    • all you can drink soda/water but no Ito-en green tea (which is freaking good, not sweet with 10000000 lbs of sugar or lemon like Lipton iced tea or southern style) or Ramune (the drink with the marble in the glass bottle)
    • snacks (I think)
    • a discount coupon for the official 2008 shirt (not the same as the free volunteer shirt I'll be receiving)

Anyway, what will I be doing?  I chose to volunteer for the market, although in hindsight, I think JPOP land might be more fun.  I could be selling t-shirts, or I might have to wander around, selling drinks.  There's a few other tasks, but I won't find out until later.  I also get a free bandana to wear, to identify myself as a market volunteer.

Although I'm busy as #$@^%$&, I chose to do this.
Luckily, my last Japanese class until last semester was today, so now I only have 2-3 tae kwon do classes a week, piano class (can't forget practicing everyday) and 45 hrs/work, per week.  Manageable, I guess.
