  • THE LAST HURRAH

    10 Days Until Graduation Day...

I know I promised I was going to go on an all out posting rampage but school and everything else demands way too much of my time. So...I'm still job searching.  I've turned down a job offer from where I interned at for two years.  It just wasn't a good fit.  I am in no real hurry to find and start a job right away because I'm going to the Philippines in June with my mom on a business trip.  I'll be gone for about a week.  After that its off to whatever company wants me.

Its been insanely busy round here.  Projects, papers, presentations.  I've been going to parties, the bars, and seeing so many people that I won't see for a long time, or if ever again.  But its an exciting time.  It finally hit me about... oh Sunday that I'm really leaving.  There are very important people that I'm leaving behind.  I'm going back home and there's no way aroung it.  Its where I want to go and where I want to be.  But I'm going to miss college.  The friends, the games, the kegs, the bars, campus, and yes even the tests and projects.  Tests of yourself can be stressful and a pain in the ass but they are a measure of yourself and how well you are willing to prepare and how you can handle stressful situations.  Anyhow, dispensing with the philosophical ramblings...

I am pumped about the next 10 days.  It has been and is going to be an excitingly, terrifyingly, drunkenly, graduationally, amazingly good ride.  Good luck to everyone on their finals and I'll be seeing you in Aggieville (for those over 21).

  • THE ONE MAN SHOW

    64 Days Until Graduation...

Friday we had another bonfire night.  Chris, Nick and I went down to Tuttle early and got the wood collected and stacked.  We even managed to build some seating.  We had a pretty good turn out with some hotty freshman, Jenn and Stacy, Susie and of course.. Oaktree.

Zach, who we call Oaktree because of his height, is an incredible funny friend.  In fact, out of my friends I've known Zach the longest about 17 years now.  Anyhow, Zach is also the funniest man I know.  He can sing like no one I know and probably knows every Disney song ever written.  This man needs to be in the movies.  His operatic voice, his ability to change character on demand and his energy are amazing.  He may be a giant, but his potential may dwarf his height.  Zach you are destined for great things.

Great to see everyone out at Tuttle.  More should come next time.

    GREEN BEER

    63 Days Until Graduation...

With the start of Spring Break falling on St. Paddy's Day, Manhattan celebrated the holiday on the Saturday before, for all K-Staters to enjoy.  We all got up around 9, made breakfast and then headed down to Aggieville around 10:30.  Man I love this holiday, what other day is it socially acceptable to start drinking so early, and keep drinking so late?  What other time do you see little kids running around the bars, dirty old men creeping the hell out of college girls, with their wives scoping out college guys.  CREEPY.  Well I drank til about 2pm, came home and slept for 6 hrs, then went after Round 2.  It was a lot of fun, got to see some people from Mizzou and back home who came back for the day.  I ended up spending a lot more money than I had anticipated but its the last time for going out til my trip so... I guess that falls under the "Leave it all out on the field" rule I have.

I ended up going to Pita Pit, and losing both wingmen to god knows where in the process. I ended up sleeping on my friends couch and got a wet kissy wake up call by a golden retriever at 7am.

  • BATTLE WOUNDS

    68 Days Until Graduation...

It's been a while, I know.  Well whats new?  Currently I have a pulled hamstring, and a scraped leg.  Talk about having a rough week.  The pulled hamstring happened while playing soccer in class.  The scraped leg happened the class before, sliding into home during kickball.

Anyhow, the past few weeks have been alot of fun.  I've met alot of new people, and seen alot of old friends again.  We've had bonfires out at Tuttle, fun nights out in Aggieville, nights in just watching movies.  I'm doing my best to leave it all out on the field before May 13th.  And in 11 days I'll be on my way to Europe for Spring Break.  While its an exciting time around here, there are some things that are hard to deal with.  I'm having fun in the short term but with the end of college so close, is it possible to start something new?  Something which you would want to be long term?  I think its possible, under the right circumstances, not that I'm thinking too far ahead, because I am very much focused on what is going on in the here and now.

  • THE WAR OF THE ROSES

Well its that day again...  The day couples pony up for roses and candy and romantic dinners.  The day single women will either round up their single posse for a chick flick night with haggendaas ice cream, or for ladies night out on the town.  For us single men, either we flat out don't care and will watch Olympic hockey and luge tonight or we'll round up our own posse to meet those single ladies out tonight.

All of this against the backdrop of what I call "The War of the Roses."  For singles it can be a silent, cold war.  For couples it can be a loud, hot war.. and hopefully with make-up action afterward.  The war is all about emotions, letting someone know how you really feel and how much you appreciate them or its about finding that someone.  Its amusing to see how these different groups react to this non-holiday, holiday.  Some wish they were single and free of this day, some wish they were in a relationship so they can have their very own Valentine. So I guess that leaves one question...Where will you be tonight?

  • 100 DAYS

Last night some of us went out for Chris's 22nd birthday.  It was a good time, and it included Nick demonstrating his "suave" ways of getting girls.  Chris had a good time and I got everyone home safely.  I was the responsible one again so I stayed with Chris until he wanted to leave.  Cuz there's a lesson I learned from Top Gun: " Never ever leave your wingman."  That's something more of ya'll should remember.

On top of Chris's birthday, Wednesday marked another milestone.  100 days from February 8th is when I'll be walking across the podium to graduate from Kansas State University with a degree in Marketing.  There are many things that I still want to do before I don the cap and gown one final time and I have a somewhat limited time left to do those things.  I'm gonna do my best to leave it all out on the field.

Today while studying in the Union, my Practical Politics professor saw me reviewing for my test and stopped by to chat with me for a bit.  He's John Carlin, and he's the former governor of Kansas.  He's a great guy and his class is my favorite of the semester.  It's not like he's a huge celebrity but I kind of see him as a role model, and an example for what I might try and do someday... run for public office.

And for a bit of trivia, he is the reason us 21-and-over kids in Kansas can buy drinks the way we do today.  Before 1985, you could not buy a Captain and Coke or Vodka Tonic at the bar, you were only allowed to buy liqour by the bottle in Kansas.  He got "Liquor by the Drink" put on the ballot for Kansas counties to vote on, and most passed it.  So the next time you sit down and order a Beam and Coke or whatever your poison is, drink one for John Carlin, cuz he fought for your drunk ass's right to drink it.
