| Closing TimeTomorrow is my last day at the Salon. I've gotten my last laser treatment and had my last free hair cut. As much as I like new things and adapt (somewhat) quickly to new situations, I'm still nervous about the transition time I'm about to experience. I will miss most of the people I work with now. I'll miss the last minute decisions to grab dinner after work or get together to swim on Mondays when many of us have off. As Shane put it "We'll have to actually be friends!" which is very true. Friendship gets tested when convenience is taken out of the picture... I'm overwhelmed from school already. Next week I start a week long in-service at Statford High School. I'm excited about strategize for the upcoming school year. The week after I sign all the paper work, sign up for my benefits and have two days of district wide in-service. I also have a Research class that has been kicking my butt mostly because I was gone all weekend and missed class on Tuesday. The 5 hour trip from Athens to Nashville was 6.5 hours long because of ATL traffic. One thing I do not miss about living in Georgia is the traffic and the distance between point A and point B! I need to find a library to do some major research. Unfortunately I have to entertain an out-of-town guest tomorrow night and have a wedding on Saturday. I'm excited about the wedding, not so excited about tomorrow night... I feel like I'm slipping on the verge of not being in control, but I know, as always, things will work out in the end. I hate starting off a class by being behind... This weekend was good. I got some news I'm still trying to process, it will take a while. I finally got the tattoo worked on. I've never had such a large part of my body covered in ink. My muscles still hurt from tensing up for 2.5 hours. The tattoo didn't exactly hurt, it was more just annoying. I still have about 1.5 hours of work to get done on it. Megan and I had a good breakfast at Big City Bread that helped sustain me while the ink was digging in. I'm so glad I didn't pass out! On a random note. Radar, my tattoo artist, and I found out his wife and I grew up in the same small city in Texas. We also attended the same high school AND her father and my dad worked together! Holy freakin' cow! It's such a small world. I didn't know his wife, she is 7 years older than I, but both our dad's remembered each other. Craziness. | | |
| Gallivanting GeorgiaI took the back roads from Dalton to Calhoun. Because I could.
I got my passenger tire fixed twice. Because it needed it.
Coming home this weekend is even better. Because I'm officially employed next year.
Seriously. I got a job teaching freshmen English.
I will have a real income now. I will have health insurance now. I will be doing what I've been created to do.
Life is good.
I'm overwhelmed. I'm happy.
Yesterday: Dinner with the brother, his girlfriend and my dad. Brownies and staying up late with Sarah & Eric. Today: Helping Matthew & Julie box up their belongings for the move to NYC. Chilling at Octane. Dinner with Joanna. Ours to Alibi show at the Masquerade. Tomorrow: The lake with the Ashlocks. Monday: Hanging out with Mary. Lunch with David. Hanging out with Lindsey. Tuesday: Athens to visit Megan and (finally) getting the tattoo worked on again. Let's hope the iron supplements I've been taking are working and I don't pass out...

| The Rapture and ButterfliesI read this in one of the local newspapers the other day:
You've Been Left Behind CCL has begun offering an email service to Christians who are preparing for the Rapture (in which all "true" Christians ascend to heaven to meet the Lord). Since the Rapture may commence suddenly, those chosen may have to depart without saying goodbye to their less worthy friends and besides will leave their property behind during the ensuing seen years before Armageddon. For $40 a year, Christians can maintain an email list of up to 62 people who would be notified and can store encrypted electronic documents, such as PIN numbers and powers of attorney. "There won't be any bodies," the website warms, pointing out an advantage of its services, "so probate court (would) take (all) seven years just to clear you assets to your next of kin."
"We have set up a system to send documents by the email, to the addresses you provide, 6 days after the "Rapture" of the Church. This occurs when 3 of our 5 team members scattered around the U.S fail to log in over a 3 day period. Another 3 days are given to fail safe any false triggering of the system."
Really? I mean, what?!! I guess the bigger question is who would know that many non-Christian people? Ouch! And how are we to know the people running this WOULD be raptured?
Interesting.
On another interesting note. My butterfly tattoo on my foot was forced into "Butterfly Wars 08'" (Original yes?!) by being assaulted by an ink pen butterfly (drawn by my roommate) engaging it in battle. I just tried to wash it off. I didn't come off very well. As I was scrubbing my foot in the sink I laughed when I thought of explaining to the Principal of the school I'm having my second interview with tomorrow why my butterfly tattoo was fighting another butterfly....
"Well, it all started with giant oatmeal cream pies and white wine, wait, this isn't starting very well. Never mind. Wine was not involved because I'm a responsible adult who doesn't drink too much wine and let others who have engage a tattoo with a pen butterfly.... This isn't going well. You want to hire me because I'm a good teacher, good teachers have not so good tattoos sometimes...."
I'll be sure to wear socks tomorrow.
| We Are All ForgottenPaper Route's new EP= Eternal Happiness.
Eternal means forever.
Knowing they will be having their CD release show Saturday night almost makes me wish I were in town this weekend. Almost. You would know they are playing in Atlanta the night before, before I have a chance to get there, and the day before Ours to Alibi plays at the same venue....
I will be seeing Joshua Radin at Exit/In on the 22nd and Brooke Waggoner has a CD release party in August at the Bell Court Theatre.
It's a good time for music.
Go buy the new EP. | | |
| The WeekendLesson learned from this weekend: You don't always need new jewelry to go with your new dress, shoes and purse. Especially when the jewelry is from Betsey Johnson and is non-refundable. I should have known mixing busy jewelry with a busy pattern would not be successful.... oh well, I'll still get use out of my purchases, just not for the event I bought them for. Darci's wedding was a blast. The weather was very gracious, considering it had been in the 90's lately, and fears from the last wedding in July I attended in Nashville subsided once I realized we would have plenty of shade and twilight on our side. The reception was not so forgiving in the barn and we were all sweat balls towards the end, but it was fun. I even got to catch a glimpse of Michael W. Smith (the wedding was on his farm.) Sorry Mom, I wasn't able to snatch a photo of him. He is a good looking man! Here's a photo of Jacinda and a while waiting for the wedding to begin:
Between the 4th of July celebration, the wedding and the surprise party for the couple who led my Small Group, this weekend's been great. Now back to classes at TSU, this semester's going to be a pain...
