Hanna & Dave Part 1 of 2: Wedding

Wedding: Open Door Presbyterian Church - Herndon, VA
Reception: Marriott Suites - Herndon, VA

Photographer: Kenny Kim
2nd Photographer: Peter Bang

While growing, Hanna made herself a list of 50 "must-have"/non-negotiable qualities in a guy. As she was getting older, she was getting discouraged knowing that she probably will never find a guy that can fulfill all the criteria. Surprisingly, when she met Dave, she knew he was different than the rest. And believe it or not, he fulfilled EVERY single one on that list! Can any one say: "made for each other?" Moments like this remind me how unique each couple are!

Thanks Hanna & Dave for allowing me to capture you guys during that week! :) Big thanks to Pete to come out and shoot with me that day! :)

Hanna & Dave Part 1 of 2: eSession

Last month I blogged about doing a fun eSession out in Ocean City, Maryland with Dave & Hanna. I've known Dave since college and briefly met Hanna at a wedding back in November. They flew me out few days earlier so that we can squeeze in an eSession - and boy did we have fun! We had a jam-packed day: boardwalk fries, various shops, seafood, mosquito bites, etc. We had a blast just getting to know each other while capturing some fun images.

This post is part 1 of 2. This will consist of their engagement photos. Their wedding photos will be next.

By the way, I just got this email from one of my couples. I'm not posting this to boast about my work - but just to share with everyone why I love what I do. I never got an email like this from my clients when I used to work as a web designer. :) It's awesome that I have the privilege to impact people in a positive way - and the fact that they'll appreciate it for many years down the road!

..."Wow, the pictures look AMAZING!! You know a few of my friends called me crazy when I told them I'm flying in a photographer from Chicago...they said, "you live in one of the biggest cities in the world and you're telling me you can't find a photographer from NYC"? I said "nope". I had doubts with the few that I met with...but never had a doubt once I viewed your portfolio...

Andy and I are so grateful to have had you photograph our special day...we will always relive the day when we look at these pictures...the hard part will be trying to pick out which ones to make albums with!!..."

Thanks Andy & Olivia! You guys rock!

Andrew & Olivia's Wedding

Wedding & Reception: Oakside Mansion - Bloomfield, NJ

Photographer: Kenny Kim
2nd Photographers: Andres Valenzuela & Vanessa Scavone

Awhile back I shot Andrew & Olivia's engagement session in Brooklyn, NY.(See Link) I met them again, this time, to shoot their wedding. From the engagement session, I could tell that this couple really loved each other and that we were going to have a blast shooting the wedding. I was immediately welcomed by their friends & family. They invited out to the rehearsal dinner where we got to spend some time relaxing, having a great meal & getting to know them.

Weather was also on our side as it rained all weekend but took a break for most of Saturday while we had the ceremony. The ceremony & celebration both took place behind the beautiful Oakside Mansion garden. Andres, Vanessa & I worked together effortlessly well and had a great time with the couple. I look forward to keeping in touch with them. Congratulations Andrew & Olivia! Here are some images from the day:

Chicago Weather

This past weekend I shot 2 weddings in one day. I don't recommend this to my fellow photographers out there and I seriously could not have pull this off without the help of my second shooters. Big thanks to Kenny Nakai & David Lai.

The first wedding went well and you couldn't ask for a better weather. The second one, however, gave us a little scare. For all your west coast wedding photographers out there, this will show you why we feel lucky/fortunate when we can have an outdoor wedding here in the midwest.

30 minutes before the ceremony is suppose to start:

Yes. That is rain AND hail coming down. At this point we are ready to move things inside. But the bride still had hope and prayed for good weather. (By the way, the dj was setting up his sound equipment outside. He was stuck under the tree and could not move. He got DRENCHED in rain. Poor soul...)

I kid you not, 15 minutes later, this is what we get:

We ended up having the ceremony outside. The weather was gorgeous again. Gotta love Chicago weather. Mother nature likes to keep us on our toes.

The two wedding day wiped me out. I spent most of Sunday sleeping in after church. Tomorrow I am getting some acupuncture for my tenosynovitis. It has gotten worse since last diagnosed. Wish me luck!
