| thanksgiving...seriously...where has it gone?
i understand there is no such thing as thanksgiving music (though i think adam sandler has a thanksgiving song on one of his cds...or at least it wouldnt surprise me if he did), but seriously though...where has thanksgiving gone?
way back when i remember that the day after thanksgiving started the Christmas music playing season...where you wouldnt hear any more classic rock or light FM on those stations...and you would just hear...first noel, all i want for christmas, jingle bell rock...etc. but now, i am driving back from my series 7 exam class that i have been taking this week, and they started playing christmas music already!
i love thanksgiving, probably moreso that christmas...yes surprising...its because the food is so good...and its just a day about pretty much eating...
but what is up seriously with the commercialization of christmas...i understand again that it has always been a very commercial holiday...but like...i didnt think that it would ever get to the status of overtaking another holiday.
its a sad day...heres to thanksgiving!

| Lost One
But she loves her work more than she does me
And honestly, at twenty-three
I would probably love my work more than I did she
So B, ain't we
It's me, and her
'Cause what she prefers over me, is work
And that's, where we, differ
So I have to give her
Free, time, even if it hurts
So breathe, mami, it's deserved
You've been put on this earth to be
All you can be, like the reserves
And me? My timing is on me, it's served
So I have to allow she, her, time to serve
The time's now for her
The time she'll mature
And maybe we, can be, we, again like we were
Finally, my time's too short to share
And to ask her now, it ain't fair
So yeah, she lost one
seems similar.

| Racism Still Prevalent...yeah, thats right, i never thought id be someone to say that racism is
somethign that would have affected me or even been a part of my life.
growing up in a pretty diverse town, about even across the board in
latin americans, african americans, and caucasian people, i never
experienced something even remotely close to racism. unfortunately, i
can no longer say that i havent been affected by it.
the other day, some brothers and i were playing some basketball at the
gym, we waited in line, and when it was our turn to play, we played. we
won convincingly and we were expecting another game to follow because
there were people waiting in line to play. we were only playing 4 v 4
half court basketball, and i really thought nothing of it. i was just
expecting another game to play and have fun and enjoy. but it was the
complete opposite. the team that lost to us, i hate to say it but they
were all jewish males, decided to take the team waiting in line to play
the game to the other half of the game, and start their own game up,
leaving us with no one to play. we were sitting on the court like,
um...are you gonna play? they just replied, nah, we have our own game
down here. man, i was in total disbelief. completely shocked to hear
that someone was gonna disrespect us, just because we won a game of
basketball. u know what tho, life went on from there. i didnt really
think too much of it as 3 other guys came into the gym and watned to
play, so we played 3 v 3 instead, which was just fine.
as the gym was closing, the other game had finished up, and we were
still continuing our game, because we had yet to reach the final score,
which is a race to 13 points straight up. so the other team, just
decides to walk right through our court, and not even notice us. i was
even bumped a lil and i got pretty irritated and told them that we were
still playing our game, and out of respect they should not step on our
court. so one guy did, but the others didnt. i again yelled and this
time they just looked blankly at me and just kept on going on thier
way, not moving any faster or anything. i couldnt believe that i was
gonna be disrespected that much.
in reality, im glad however that i didnt have the basketball in my
hands, or got closer to the guys that were acting as complete assholes,
because with my temper, who knows what i would have done. i just
couldnt believe that people especially at a diverse campus like the
University of Maryland could be so ignorant about respect. maybe it
wasnt blatent racism, but in my eyes, it seemed as if they didnt want
to play with us, or even just be in the same area of us. then in the
end, they didnt even notice us. im still pretty angered by the whole
situation, and appauled at the way racism is still prevalent in our
daily lives.
