| Je suis retournéeAn entry to sum up my stay in France? A difficult task indeed.....this world traveler is back in the States after having flown home 3 days before Christmas, and is adjusting a little better than she thought she would. (thus far)
I celebrated Christmas with my family and have even picked up a few shifts at work (Starbucks! I can never escape it) before I head back to a final semester at Cedarville. It’s hard to imagine that just over a week ago I was riding the bus home past the Arc de Triumph and trying to solidify the memory for when I came back here. I really miss Paris. I miss having thousands of people to speak the language with, and peers to challenge your progress; but I have rented eight French DVD’s and 3 books which will hopefully keep my mind going for a while as I transition back into a world of English. I won’t make this entry a long one, but I will say that to anyone who is looking into studying in France, or even studying abroad in general…GO. I’ve studied in two different countries now (England and France) and I still feel as though I’ve only just seen the tip of the iceberg as to what this world has to offer. If you like a challenge, if you like adventure, if you like to observe and try out new techniques and a way of life, if you want your mind to expand and grow, get out of your comfort zone and try a new life in a new country, even if it’s just for a while...GO. I would love to go back someday and continue my studies, and who knows, maybe I’ll take a new leap and try somewhere else! Russia? China? Egypt? Brazil? Porquoi pas?!
I wish everyone a wonderful start to 2008! Bonne Année!

| Croissants, cafés and friendsExams are OVER and I have only 10 days left in this city of lights. I never thought it would go this fast, I feel like I can finally call this place my own and now I have to leave. Parting is going to be hard, but I’m trying to make the most of these final days! I’m still working hard on my French because I am determined not to lose it when I return, and just this week have been amazed at how much I am able to do and how well I am able to communicate in this language that I was only at a beginning level at when I arrived in Tours in September.
If I could put three things into my suitcase and take them home with me it would be the croissants amande that I eat every week from my favorite boulangerie, the cafés I frequent, and the friends with whom I frequent the cafés. French, American, Russian, Chinese, Taiwanese, German, Mexican, and the list could go on. And there is always one thing we have in common…French. I had far too much fun in my theatre class this afternoon where a bunch of students were brought together by acting out sketches in a common language. We laughed, joked, applauded, and worked hard together to get the most out of our time here in Paris.
I’ve seen huge manifestations on the streets, Climbed the Eiffel tower (in the elevator of course) by myself, Finished my first book in French, Been to the Opera Bastille TWICE to see an Italian Opera and the Nutcracker ballet, And taught the French children that I baby-sit how to dance.
I’ve been incredibly blessed to experience all of this history, art, culture, life and language here in the city, and I wish that my family and friends back home could see it as well. 10 days remain…and there is much left to explore; thus, I leave you my faithful readers for the time being…À la prochaine!

| When you're not studying in Paris......you go to Sephora!
My rommie and I hit the Champs-Elysées last night to forget (for a couple of hours) her huge chemistry exam.....destination: The biggest Sephora on the planet! We sniffed, admired, chatted in French about products we weren't interested in buying, danced to Rhianna when half of the employees started blasting the music and bought some goodies only my girlfriends and TomTom could appreciate.
Having one of those girly moments, I saw an ad for "Bobbi Brown's" new collection and I fell in love with the picture:
After staring at the new pink collection for a moment, I asked the nearest Sephora employee for the lipgloss in the picture. "Ahhh, oui! C'est ça! C'est magnifique ça, le 'pink quartz'!" Ok, so when she handed it to me, it was too late...the Sephora marketing had worked...I was going to look like THAT. *haha*
Anyway, after thinking the whole time that "Bobbi Brown" was Whitney Houston's ex-husband, I looked the name up online and found the TRUE Bobbi Brown and her philosophy on life. And for some reason, I just had to share. Maybe the fact that I'm over the flu, listening to Amy Winehouse, and sipping on coffee that all of my intellectual-ness has flown out the window...but I don't care. I'm sure Condoleezza Rice likes Sephora....I'm sure of it.
The Bobbi Brown lifestyle: Bobbi's philosophy is about finding balance and cultivating a positive outlook--it's a way of life. 1. Always be on time 2. Look people in the eye 3. Tell the truth 4. Don't smoke 5. Exercise 6. Eat healthy 7. Drink lots of water 8. Read (yes!) 9. Be nice 10. Never give up
