Recollections Part 1

Senior Year is approaching. Let's look back at how education screwed us over and make us choose our career paths!

Kindergarten

Impressions: It’s my first time in school and I didn’t know I had to stay in school for 12 more years. In fact, you can say I knew practically nothing about school at this point.

Friends: Well I first befriended a guy name Mikail. I think that’s how it’s spelt. But I dunno, I guess we never really talked later so it was like nothing almost. There I met Lucas, my first ever best friend all throughout elementary. There was also Rodney, my second best friend. I’m not sure how we got along but we did. Not only those two, I met a lot of people that have been my friends for a long time. I first met Michelle Cheung, Jenny Dong, and Dijon here. Dijon was the tallest guy I knew, and my first African-American friend. We got along great. He could do this pink eye thing. Something with his eyelids. It was disgusting, but hilarious.

Debacles: My first experience when we had computer room time. Sometimes Ms. Salem frightens me to hell and other times she can be real nice. Now that I think about it, she probably has some French descent.

Trends: I think Power Rangers was pretty big back then. Ah, the memories.

Overall: Not so bad. I don’t remember doing much in it except play and screw up a few times. I think this is the first time I started noticing every Friday was the day there’d be sales in the auditorium or something. Was it? Well it was fun, nevertheless.

First Grade

Impressions: Well I think I’m learning how school works. Recess was probably the best things I was ever offered.

Friends: Hey, most of my friends are here too! Hurray! Oh wait, I have a problem with this guy. Macksim? He’s like the kind of trolls that aren’t on the internet if that’s even remotely possible.

Debacles: Probably one of the first times I got in real trouble and that was for taking a lot. Hey, I don’t really talk that much anymore. Maybe it’s because I hate it when I’m being lectured or yelled at?

Trends: Well, I can’t really say much but my teach, Ms. Taylor always read stories on Ms. Viola Swamp. On Halloween that would be her costume. I guess I was freaked out a bit but it was all in good fun.

Overall: Pretty good. This was the first year I joined a play by my own accord, and the first and only play where my two other sisters at Lafayette that time were in as well. It was The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I was supposed to play a bear, but they changed it to a mouse for some reason. Actually they changed a lot of animals for some reason… Holiday Bazaar was really awesome as well as the Halloween day.

Second Grade

Impressions: Okay, it seems that with every year, the kids go to rooms now on the second and third floors. And in the double digits now!! Wow, a room with a sofa too. That’s neato.

Friends: Okay, I think this turned out pretty good. I made a lot of new friends here, I think. Unfortunately I can’t really remember anyone aside from Shaina, Barclay, and Jordan, an Aussie! And hey, Lucas is in my class again! How lucky is that?

Debacles: I really don’t see what problems I had here. It was really funny. Mrs. Burger took us on a lot of field trips and we had many book order catalogs.

Trends: Everyone knows that awesome little aardvark, right? Even to this day, Arthur is still the freakin’ bomb. A-A-R-D-V-A-R-K! And I know everyone remembers Jumpstart PC games. The 2nd grade one is the best, still is. What better than robots with punny names and a great adventure?

Overall: Honestly, I don’t know exactly how I passed because I clearly didn’t finish all my homework. Hell, even I’m amazed by that. But aside from that (and my very horrible, horrible handwriting) it was great.

Third Grade

Impressions: Little did I know this was gonna be one year I had to endure painfully. This is so stupid. My teacher was supposed to be this guy but he must’ve gotten fired or whatever. So instead, my class had alternating substitutes. Painful, painful indeed.

Friends: I never heard of a class with mixed grades, but it happened. The third grade class and the fourth grade class joined forces as one class. I befriended a whole lot of 4th graders because I was completely separated from almost all of my friends. Andy, Kip, and Wesley. The three greatest friends of mine that weren’t in my grade. We totally did everything together.

Debacles: Here’s where things got a little ugly. I actually got a pink slip. See, I was hanging out with some people (including Andy) and it was after school. We were in the bathroom and suddenly one of the guys threw a wet rolled up toilet paper at the wall. I thought it looked quite funny so I wanted to try it myself. I failed totally. But the problem was that once we went back up to the yard I was taking a drink from the water fountain (oh man, I miss those fountains) and one of the school guys was hollering at us randomly. He found the wall in the bathroom full of wet toilet balls thrown at the wall. I wasn’t quite thinking at the moment, but I can’t really be to blame for that because the one I shot was like, on the floor and it wasn’t as great as the others stuck on the wall. So why did I not say anything? I was so stupid… -_-; the punishment aside from a pink slip was to clean the bathroom for like weeks. I actually didn’t think it was that terrible but it was tedious and fucking annoying. Well, anyways, a teacher was finally decided after so many others and it was Mr. Walker in a new room downstairs. He was so cool. My first male teacher and he was quite calm and collected.

Trends: Pokémon, totally… That was practically the thing back then. Oh yeah, Beast Wars was really big too.

Overall: Honestly, things went really bad for me, but there was the good side of it that came for me. Mostly the second semester where I didn’t fuck up as much.

Fourth Grade

Impressions: Okay, I wasn’t expecting anything really. It was just like, oh great, gotta go back again. Funny as it may sound, I was late on the first day. Like maybe half an hour late.

Friends: Real amazing I think. My best buds Lucas and Rodney were back, and a lot of the guys and girls I knew back then returned as well. I made some cool new friends too like Michael, Leo, William, and Timmy. Although I think I actually knew these guys from after school a year before.

Debacles: Well, I think a huge mishap was in the courtyard at recess. It’s funny because the guys and the girls always bickered over which court they get. It was like this for Foursquare (damn I hate that game), Handball, Kickball (damn that was fun), and even Volleyball which we called something else. Forgot what it was but it was mostly like Dodgeball. Very violent. Then there was… I dunno, tension between classmates? Though when I say tension, I really mean like… very awkward moments and such. It’s.. kind of a long story that I wish not to tell.

Trends: Well, I know Pokémon was still growing strong, but this is when I first got into Digimon, the beneficial factor which would lead to influence my interests today. Yup, it’s all thanks to that franchise.

Overall: Much fun. I really liked my teacher(s) and we got to have computer time more. Oregon Trail!! And that game… the one where you are a fish? That was fun as well. Of course, in modern times these PCs are pretty much mere pieces of JUNK.

Fifth Grade

Impressions: It’s my final year at Lafayette!!! I think I was very knowledgeable for my age here. Well, for most of the time being. Other times I acted so self-absorbed and bastardized, it’s not very funny. The great thing about this year was that my class was the same as last year, save for one new girl. Talk about awesomeness. I can have the last moments with my best friends from long ago.

Friends + Debacles: Still the same great guys. Although… there was this one time that I really got mad at Lucas for some reason. It was a really stupid reason. All because a group of us had kinda quarreled over a ball or something. I attempted to smack Lucas in the shins with a ball too. I dunno what I was thinking, I honestly don’t. That time, he was truly my best friend but I’ve no idea what set me like that. It was just too fucking stupid. I think after that we didn’t talk for a while. We really didn’t have a lot of contact until later on when I showed him the awesomely cool cloning trick in Gold/Silver. He probably still resents me for that moment, but we’re cool now. Of course I could talk to him over AIM but we sure seem to be worlds apart now. He’s about to graduate from Lowell and me Wash. He totally outgrew me too. I remember I was more like his person to look up to, but that sorta dimished later on. We played chess together a lot. I was really stubborn because I didn’t want to lose to him in Chess so I made up a rule and I definitely know he knew it was BS. He knows chess inside and out so I shouldn’t be mocking him like that.

Another oddity was well… more “tension”? Hrmm… Oh yeah, I had to adjust to living in a new house around the end of April. It really saddened me. No more free cable, no more free street roaming… no more Sunset. Instead my new house was amazingly on the same block as Lafayette. The same fucking block. I could just walk a few steps and I’m there! Who the hell’s idea was it to move there in the first place? =__=;

Trends: Okay, this is gonna sound pretty funny. So my friend from 4th/5th grade named Wilson Szeto was getting poked around a lot. You know how it was back in the 90s? Asians would wear matching sweaters and pants like pajamas. It’s probably what I’d call the early FOB. That’s what it looks like. Anyways, Wilson was wearing them all the time. His shirt said “Shumakid” on it. Now I don’t know what the hell that meant, but Timmy laughed a lot from that and so he pretty much set the nickname “Shumakid” in stone. Other funny nicknames he got were like “Fidget” and “Mama Szeto.” We’ve done it since 4th grade but I guess he got fed up with it in 5th grade. So we had to dumb it down pretty much. But I’m sure he’s cool with it now. I mean, c’mon, we’re teenagers. Get a freakin’ grip, man. Lol

Overall: Pretty good, pretty bad. First time I ever received an F. Little did I know that moment would probably screw me over because I’d be constantly getting Fs once I moved to Middle School.

Til next entry!

Power Rangers celebrates its 15th anniversary! Pt. 4

Originally, I was supposed to be done with this yesterday or the day before but ack. Oh well, I still would like this to be complete.

So back on track. Between 2001 and 2002, a buyout took place and Disney bought the rights to the Power Rangers franchise from Saban. This also is the reason why Fox Famliy became ABC Family. The buyout of course included Power Rangers' production along with others. After Saban now became BVS Entertainment, production was changed over to New Zealand after Wild Force ended. And as we all know after that, Fox Kids was no more. *sigh* The worse part is that Saban still kept the rights to the music from the past seasons. Why Disney couldn't do a thing about it I dunno.

Power Rangers Wild Force (Season 10)
This was a very iffy season. It was mostly about the Zords, and there were helluva lot of Zords in this one. Too much. Oh, and the Red guy was practically brain-dead. The only great thing about this season really was Taylor, the Yellow Eagle, the Time Force team-up, and the 10th anniversary episode "Forever Red" where the past rangers (minus Rocky) showed up to take down an old enemy empire from Zeo.

Power Rangers Ninja Storm (Season 11)
The first season to have footage in NZ. Now the feel was dramatically different but it didn't stray away completely from the usual theme. I thought this one was pretty neat. The team does a lot of sports, they have ninja techniques, and the suits looked great. The only thing I hated was the comedy, the rangers' sensei, who was a hamster, and the villain, the sensei's brother, who was a Luchador. Seriously, WTF? Oh yeah, starting from this season, it seems that now each ranger has a special ability outside being a ranger.

Power Rangers DinoThunder (Season 12)
Now a lot may not have liked this one, but I thought it was a great one. One of the reasons being that Tommy returned in this one for the season. He played the Black Dino Ranger. So he's went through green, white, red, and black. Haha. Oh yeah, and the theme was dinosaurs. Sound familiar? This season introduced one of the baddest guys ever. An evil white ranger originally called the AbareKiller. Even his costume looks evil. Two of the greatest episodes was "Legacy of Power" the 500th episode of Power Rangers. It detailed the history of the Power Rangers from the beginning til now. The second was "Fighting Spirit" where Tommy was in a coma and had to fight for his life. In his coma, he fought against his past ranger selves which was really neat to see.

Power Rangers S.P.D. (Season 13)
IMO, another great one even though I never watched it all. It was fairly close to the original. This season had the most rangers ever as well. More than six, maybe there were ten? Anyways, it was like a mix between Lightspeed and Time Force. Like Time Force they were like guardians of the peace (aka police force) but the setting took place in 2025. The style was really great and the characters all had their moment to shine. Also, these are probably my favorite suits, especially in S.W.A.T. mode, where they have... well those SWAT suits. The red guy has the most pimpest pose ever too haha. Oh yes, and the commander was a dog, but he was a pretty awesome guy.

Power Rangers Mystic Force (Season 14)
Now I didn't watch a whole lot and at first I thought it was really strange, but I liked the design of the costumes for most of them. Would you believe it? The rangers had magical powers now. It was like something out of LotR or something. And they also wore capes too. This season there were also more than six... kinda.

Power Rangers Operation Overdrive (Season 15)
The current season airing. The design here was very original. A shade of white and the respective color. The rangers were a team of let's say hunters or adventurers and were on a mission to collect these five stones. Some say this isn't a such a great season but I haven't had time to watch it all. I just know the theme song uses rap music. Er.. yeah. Now this is where it gets interesting. It's the 15th anniversary of Power Rangers. Just yesterday premiered the 15 anniversary episode. A two parter called "Once A Ranger" where the song of Rita and Lord Zedd named Thrax seeks revenge on the rangers and gathers the Overdrive team's baddest villains. There were seriously a whole bunch of them and it worked too. The team was getting beat badly... that is until five mysterious rangers show up. The original Black Ranger, the Blue Wind Ranger, the Yellow Dino Ranger, Red S.P.D. Ranger, and the Green Mystic Ranger. All past rangers starting from the new production. The exception is of course Adam. It was great to see the Black Ranger in action again. A new morphing sequence for Adam as well. Woot! Though I gotta say, there were too too many explosions to count. And the ending felt mildly rush too. Though overall it was great to see them all again.

So what's next for PR? Well, you know the next season will be about cats? *crickets* Yeah, that's right, Jungle Fury. The art of beast martial arts that involve felines. I saw the first episode of it in Japanese (Gekiranger) and well, the red guy is annoying as hell, the suits are fugly, and ... their mentor is a cat. What else, ah yes, there are confirmed 15th anniversary games coming for the DS and PS2. I can't wait to see how that will turn out. From the DS screens, looks like you can choose a ranger from the whole history of rangers.

Well that's all. Hopefully someone actually read all that or at least knows what I'm talking about. My fingers are starting to cramp. Later all.

Power Rangers celebrates its 15th anniversary! Pt. 3

Nearly halfway through this I promise to make these next ones short and sweet.

Power Rangers Lost Galaxy (Season 7)
I admit, I started lose interest around this time. All my favorite characters are gone and a new storyline was put out. I I was skeptical about this but at least they know how to keep things linear with the old story. Entirely new cast with new plot. This would be how the generations would continue. This also gave birth to the team-up episodes which is a pretty cool thing. Villains were completely ridiculous though. C'mon, a giant fat ass Scorpion in a tub? Oh yes, and the costumes were pretty lame. Clearly they were taken off of Charlie Brown's hallmark zigzag shirt.

Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue (Season 8)
Well the show finally takes place back on Earth again. This time it seems that the villains were of this planet and nowhere else. Quite interesting. Also, a new base was introduced. An underwater base, that is. The theme this time was about... well rescuing and stuff. Protecting the city and all that. Each ranger actually had a career. Pretty pathetic, right? LOL In the American adaptation, a ranger was created. Yup, it wasn't from the Japanese. This was the Titanium Ranger. He looked better than the other guys since they had hippie designs. But what I can't stand are the humongous visors with no mouth plate

Power Rangers Time Force (Season 9)
Now this is where things started to pick up again. This time the team was a group of police officers from the year 3000. A villain had traveled back in time and they gave chase. There's a really dark and compelling story behind the whole season. Jen, who plays Pink, is proposed by her fellow officer Alex, who was Red. She agreed and they would soon be happy together. Unfortunately duty called and the infamous Criminal Ransik traveled to the year 2001 to get away. So the rangers followed, but Alex was incredibly injured when he tried to capture Ransik. He was very much near death and it broke Jen apart. So they traveled back to 2001. Too bad for them though. The team needed everyone to activate their morphers before they could morph. Unfortunately Alex was... well MIA. So they had to search for a person that matched his DNA. A rich man's kid named Wes just so happened to be at the right place at the right time. He was a perfect match. More than that, he even resembles Alex in appearance! So anyhoo, many twists and turns here and there. The story was very true to the original Japanese so it gained much praise from the fandom. This would definitely be considered Saban's best. The sixth ranger was also the most badass guy ever. BTW, his name was Eric. (Yeah, I know, right?!) Anyhoo, he was real snobby to the guys at first and worked under Wes' father's Silver Guardians, a team of... let's say the peace corps?

TO BE CONTINUED... in the next post, aside from three more explanations on the following seasons, I will also be explaining how Disney (yes, Disney) acquired the rights to Power Rangers.

Power Rangers celebrates its 15th anniversary! Pt. 2

So I left off after the Mighty Morphin' era. Now it's time to move on the what is not the traditional format for the show.

Power Rangers Zeo (Season 4)
The rangers get new powers, new Zords, a new Command Center, and oh hey, new costumes finally. They apparently are based on geometric symbols or something. I don't really know. The enemy this time around was the Machine Empire, a bunch of... well machines and robots. Before Zeo, Aisha left at the end of MMPR and in her stead was Tanya, the new Yellow Ranger. Billy still stayed with the team although he wasn't a ranger anymore. Why? I've no idea but it seems that the expert is now on the sidelines just aiding them. Oh yes, the Gold Ranger was introduced in this one. (With the temporary return of Jason!) He actually wore a black suit but had extra gold armor and junk. He's originally the King Ranger, with the symbol on his mask in the shape of the Chinese character for "king" which is "ou" in Japanese. It's also the name of this series too (Ohranger). One thing I really hated was how Billy was written off the show. Go with the Aquitars? Nuuuuuuuuuuuuu. Wait, they still used those guys? I believe it was around this time that Bulk and Skull worked as detectives on the police force too. Awesome.

Power Rangers Turbo (Season 5)
Ah, possibly one of the most least likable seasons ever. It all points down to Justin, Justin, Justin. Supposedly Fox thought it'd be nifty if a kid could be ranger so it happened. Now, I'm not saying they can't. They certainly can if done right, but Justin wasn't right. I'm sure he easily pissed everyone off. Another act was when the cast members minus Justin were suddenly replaced with T.J., Cassie, Ashley, and Carlos. I do believe it was Jason David Frank and Catherine Sutherland (Tommy and Kat) that wanted to leave the show and I guess the crew had no choice but to have the others leave too. They weren't as powerful too. Most episodes weren't really serious even though it looked like it was supposed to. Instead of a sixth ranger, we get a futuristic Robocop-like character. *sirens* The Zords were now driven vehicles too, which was a nice change from the animals. It was mainly focused on cars as this adaptation is from Carranger. There was a similar, much older series before MMPR that was called Turboranger but that was entirely different. Also, Zordon had to go because his planet needed him or something. So while he was gone Dmitria took over, a goddess being who was in fact the twin sister of evil pirate queen Divatox, the villainess of the series. And Alpha 5 was replaced with Alpha 6. Ai yai yai yai yai yai.....

Power Rangers In Space (Season 6)
Now this is one possibly my favorite season of all. Superheroes in outer space. That's morphanominal. In space totally saved the franchise, at least that's what I believe. After the very cruddy Turbo it seems the show would have been canceled for good. Thankfully space and sci-fi were really trendy at this time (with the new trilogy of Star Wars movies after all) and Space lived up to it. I got to hand it to Saban for this rendition of Megaranger. Originally this wasn't a space series but a videogame sort of thing with spaceships and stuff. What they did was completely different from the American counterpart. Space introduced Andros, the new leader and his best friend Zhane, the powerful Silver Ranger... who... looks astonishingly like Brad Pitt. No, I'm serious. Also introduced was Andros' sister Karone, who was in the beginning the villianess of the season, Astronema. This season was the last of the 6-years worth of a major storyline. The ultimate battle of good vs. evil. Countdown to Destruction, the finale of Space and the end of a story. Truly epic goodiness. The rangers had morphed in front of millions of people when they were attacked, and on Andros' home planet was Zordon and a bundle of old foes. That includes Rita, Zedd, and their minions, Divatox, the Machine Empire, and a whole lot of turd. There was no other way to defeat them all until Zordon had to be sacrificed. Andros destroyed Zordon's tube an as a result the wavy of energy from Zordon swept the entire land and engulfed all evil. Monsters were destroyed and main villains like Rita, Zedd, and Divatox were purified into human beings. Ah, such a mighty time.

Part three continues next time with the new ever changing yet continuing story!

Power Rangers celebrates its 15th anniversary! Pt. 1

That's right, folks. It's been nearly two decades since the classic phenomenon swept the nation ever since '92. As a low budget as it was, it attracted the attention of all young viewers from all over the world on the now defunct Fox Kids network. A brief note though - Power Rangers is an adaptation from the Japanese 'tokusatsu' series known as Super Sentai. It originally started with Himitsu Sentai Goranger, or Secret Task Force Goranger. A couple of series after is when the Super Sentai franchise began and 14 carnations later was Karyuu Sentai Zyuranger. The material of said show was used as footage for most of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers seasons. So yes, here in America we started out with MMPR while in Japan they actually had 15 more series way before that. At the same time we are celebrating the 15th anniversary here, Japan is commemorating it's 30th anniversary overseas. Way to go, Toei!

Now this wasn't an ordinary show when it first aired. Yeah, sure we had a lot of superhero animated series that time. But c'mon now, when did we have five teenagers with attitude (uh... yeah, teenagers indeed have attitude, Zordon *rolls eyes*) that can transform into colored heroes in spandex (spandex was new and in old Super Sentai they didn't wear them) and pilot mechanical machines in the appearance of prehistoric beasts? Oh and you won't find a giant floating head and a robot working together anywhere else than this show. Not to mention these guys are able to teleport wherever and whenever thanks to the nifty communicator watch (with a cool ringtone). Let's go take a look back at where it all started.

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers (Season 1)
Now face it. Everyone saw it and everyone liked it. There's no denying that. What's not to like though? The insanely cheesy dialogue and pisspoor acting from this season totally didn't go through my head when I was a kid. Of course looking back now it really was cheesy from the beginning. Talk about morals and martial arts. But that was really fun. We're introduced to the first rangers ever: Jason, Zack, Billy, Trini (a Vietnamese, no less. Bless your soul, Thuy Trang), and Kimberly. Then along came a guy known as the famous Tommy who started out as an evil guy (he even one time hijacked the guys' zord! Ownage!!). The allies were Zordon, a giant ass floating head in a tube who was talking like some elder Jedi... and Alpha 5, the fully functional automaton with the classic catch phrase "Ai yai yai yai yai yai yai!" and who could forget that? Now in the US adaptation, the show had a more American ethic to it, and because of that, we were able to have two extra characters - the slapstick comedy of Bulk and Skull. And I'm serious, these guys were hilarious all the time throughout the entire series. The amazing theme song made them even more awesome. The main villain, or rather villainess, was none other than Rita Repulsa, adapted from the Japanese counterpart known as Bandora. Her henchmen were of Goldar, the guy with an identity complex, Squatt and Baboo, a knuckleheaded blue ogre and a vampire with alchemic traits, and Finster the little elven creature that created monsters and the Putty Patrol foot soldiers out of clay. We're also introduced to the lovely Scorpina. The rangers always seemed to give Rita a headache.

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers (Season 2)
The first half of this season started out pretty well, but there was a bit critical issue hidden in this. But to start off, Rita failed to beat the rangers and so a new villain took over known as Lord Zedd (:O) This guy was serious business and was one of the most memorable villains ever. In fact, this guy wasn't in the original Japanese version at all. He was American-made! Got to hand it to Saban for that. So once he took over he sent Rita back into the dumpster from where she was sealed long ago. Then suddenly Goldar became Zedd's right-hand bitch. Squat and Baboo and even Finster did nothing. Anyhoo, the Putties were replaced with Z-Putties, although I actually think these guys are much stupider and more vulnerable. What was he thinking. I forgot to mention but the first season was originally going to end after 50 something episodes with a monster and that's how the Japanese one ended. Though it appears that Saban was afraid they'd run out of footage by then so they had Toei film new footage exclusively for the American version. Also, the outfits stayed the same. I don't really know why they decided to do that but they did. The only costume they kept was the White Ranger after Tommy lost his Green powers. Now here's where one problem started. I guess Saban decided to use the new mecha now to replace the old Dinozords, just like the next Super Sentai known as Dairanger. The problem was that the new footage made was using the Zyuranger material. To make up for it hey had to use specific shots of the Zords looking like they're actually fighting each other but in reality they never showed actual physical contact. It wasn't until then that they decided to finally use Dairanger monsters. Another twist: the three ranges are replaced. The story had to write these characters out of the show as they were selected to be part of a peace conference in Switz. Behind the show though, it was said that the three had asked for a higher pay (because Saban's a real jerk or something) but no dice. They were quickly written off the show. Speaking of which, anyone ever noticed that Walter Jones (aka Zack) played the Black Ranger and Thuy (Trini) was Yellow? A controversial topic came up on this color crisis. But truthfully, discrimination was unintentional. In the pilot episode, Trini was actually a different actress who wasn't Asian. It wasn't until after the pilot that Thuy joined the cast. And they weren't looking at it that way until TV Guide suddenly mentioned it. After that fiasco they fixed it up. In those three's stead introduced Rocky, Adam, and Aisha.

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers (Season 3)
I don't remember much of this season but I know it was good and bad. Ninja ga imasuuuu~! Yup, they got Ninja powers in this one. If anyone remembers the movie they also became the same ninja. Of course the movie is non-canon so we should take that with every grain of salt. Also, Kimberly was replaced with Katherine. Billy is still the only guy that hasn't changed. Wheee! Now they still decided not to use new costumes again. However, they did introduce the Aquitar, or the Alien Rangers. Their costumes were actually what the costumes would have been if they were sticking to Super Sentai. This was called Kakuranger. There was a whole mini series on this because the regular rangers were changed into wittle kids. (The cast was on tour or something). So we are introduced to Rito, Rita's brother, and Master Vile, Rita's father. They were... apparently owning them. Yeah... This whole event was rather amazing really. The villains were able to destroy the Command Center and their powers. The rangers went on a quest to find the Zeo Crystal that would give them uber new powers. This would eventually lead to the regular Power Rangers franchise we know now, starting with Zeo.
