A permanant home

I was supposed to close down this xanga today, but the biggest fan of this xanga has convinced to not do it. I'm inclined to agree - it's too much memories to get rid of. It's a constant reminder on how much more interesting I was when I was back in Japan.

Still, you should probably all look for my new xanga anyway since there won't be anymore new post here.

Moving Out, cleaning house

I moved out, y'all. You can still find me in my usual blogrings, and I re-suscribed to most of you, except those that haven't updated in forever, so you know my new screen name already. But those of you who aren't suscribed and wnat to proclaim that you're still alive and want to keep in touch. Leave a comment here before May 22, because that's when I shut everything down.

I'm abandoning a lot of memories by shutting down this blog, but sometimes one just needs to move the hell on.

City of Glass

I've been revisiting some older films that I like quite a bit. One of those that I haven't seen in a while is Mabel Cheung (An Autumn's Tale)'s City of Glass, a film that I've loved quite a bit over the years. The film is comprised of two romances -

Vivian and Raphael (of the past)

Susie and David (their respective daughter and son) (of the present). Yes, I do realize that the picture is blurry. This is a matter of the DVD quality, this film is in need of a digital remaster.

Of course, there's also spectcular fireworks.

Last, but not least, the line that put Daniel Wu on my hate list for a few years after I saw the film.

Vergangenheit - Short Cut

The shorter cut of Vergangenheit (which I would call the "Short Cut" as stated above, or "Redux," or whatever creative name you have for an alternative cut) premiered tonight in competition at the Asian American Association Film Festival.

It lost.

However, here are some feedback from the judges, with scores and comments. Each section is out of 5 points

Judge 1 -
Story/Concept - 4 (I like the overall idea)
Use of the Asian-American theme - 3 (Interracial dating theme could've been developed more).
Quality of acting - 4 (fine)
Overall effects - 3
Total (out of 20) - 14

Judge 2 -
Story/Concept - 4
Use of Asian-American theme - 1
Quality of acting - 5
Overall effects - 3
Additional comment - Great dialogue, excellent pace.
Total (out of 20) - 13

Judge 3 (this guy really hated it)
Story/Concept - 2
Use of Asian-American theme - 1
Quality of acting - 3
Overall effects - 2
Additional comments - I like the wit early in the script.
Total (out of 20) - 8

Judge 4 -
Story/Concept - 3
Use of Asian-American theme - 3
Quality of acting - 4
Overall effects - 4
Total (out of 20) - 14 (although this judge gave an additional 3 points under additional comments)

I think if I showed my face, I might've gotten a point or two under Asian-American theme. Considering the quality of the other films and the reaction it got at the screening, I seemed to have done rather well. But it looks like the consensus is "better luck next time."

A conversation on fate

»D»¡§A¡@®É±`¦b¤U¤È¡@¨Ó³o¸Ì±H«H¥ó
I hear that you always drop your mail off here in the afternoon
³{§«ô¡@¯d³sÃÀ³N®i¡@ÁÙ¬O¥¼¶¡Â_
You never miss your weekly visit to the art gallery
¦ó¥H§Ú¡@¨Ó¦^¨µÅÞ¹M¡@¤´µM©M§AÀ¿ªÓ
Why do I look everywhere, only to have brushed shoulders with you?
ÁÙ¤´µM¡@¦b¦U¦Û¦t©z¡@¿ù¹L¤F¬K¤Ñ
And we're still in our respective universe, missing out on autumn?"

----Eason Chan

A: "Do you believe in fate?"

B: "Sure, if you mean that we see who we're meant to see."

A: "So you think the divine decides who we run into."

B : "At least some kind of overarching power, yes."

A: "Then how come I always run into the ones that I don't want to see, and yet the more I want to see a person, the less I see of them?"

B: "Because fate decides who you ought to see, not who you want to see. Just because you don't want to see someone doesn't mean you shouldn't."

---a dialogue to be placed in a future film
