  • JESUS OR THE WAVES?

We all know the story about when Jesus was walking on water. Peter saw Jesus and decided to get out of the boat and start walking towards Jesus. And lo and behold, Peter was doing it. He was walking on water. But then Peter faced a dilemma. He had a choice. Jesus or the waves? He had a choice of looking at the waves that surrounded him, or looking at Jesus. Unfortunately, Peter took his eyes and faith off of Jesus and looked upon and feared the waves that surrounded him, and began to sink before Jesus came and rescued Peter.

    II Corinthians 5:7
For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Many times we have a choice in our lives. Do we look and fear the waves that surround us, or do we look at Jesus and trust him? Sadly, I think many times we are like Peter was. We allow the waves to overwhelm and bring fear upon us instead of trusting God. But praise God, Peter ended up as a strong man of faith.

Let us keep our eyes upon Jesus.

    Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

  • 5 STEPS TO HUMILITY

1- Romans 12:3 - For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly.

2- I Corinthians 10:12 - Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

3- Matthew 18:4 - Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

4- James 4:10 - Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

5- Isaiah 57:15 - For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

  • REPENTANCE

Does repentance sound like a harsh word to you? Is it something that you'd rather not think about, but ignore? I believe that repentance is one of the most critical parts of our walk with the Lord. Not only our walk with the Lord, but our very salvation. You might be thinking - "Well, Jesus said that we just have to believe in him to be saved." Is that all that he said? Have you forgotten what he said in Matthew 4:17?

"From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

Notice here that this was the first thing that Jesus chose to preach on. If Jesus chose this as his first message, don't you think it was vitally important? Someone might say - "I believe that all my sins are forgiven and God gives grace to me, so I don't worry about repenting when I sin."

And what does God have to say to people with that attitude?

    Romans 6:1-2
    1
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
    2
God forbid. How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

I would say that's pretty clear. Wouldn't you? You might be thinking - "Does that mean that as a Christian, we will never sin?"
No, it's not saying that. But it does relate to repentance. When we do sin, we repent.

I John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,  and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Ive seen people try to get saved without repenting and they usually end up falling away from their faith and getting angry and blame God for the problems in their life.
Does repentance still sound like a harsh word to you that you try to ignore? I hope and pray not.

Acts 17:30 - But now, God commandeth all men everywhere to repent.

  • RELISH OR IGNORE?

    Luke 22:24-27
    24
And there was a strife among the disciples, which of them should be accounted the greatest.
    25
And Jesus said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.
    26
But you shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
    27
For which is greater? He that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? Is not he that sitteth at meat? But I am among you as he that serveth.

The first thing that I'd like to point out is that even though we are saved and our sins are forgiven, Jesus tells us that we are not all equal in the Kingdom of God. But he that uses his life to serve others is greater than he that doesn't.
It's so easy for us to get caught up in our own lives and our own needs and completely forget about helping or serving others. We may go to church every week and read our bibles and pray every day, which are important things to do in our walk with the Lord, but we need to keep our eyes open and recognize the opportunities that come into our life where we can humble ourselves and use an opportunity where we can help and serve someone else that has a need, no matter how small it may seem.

It's very interesting how Jesus contrasts the normal thinking of this world compared to the way a Christian is supposed to think concerning the Kingdom of God. Jesus asks the disciples some questions and says - "For which is greater? He that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? Is not he that sitteth at meat?"

Jesus is insinuating that he that sitteth at meat is greater than he that serveth. That would be the normal way of thinking. But then Jesus turns it completely upside down and says - "But I am among you as he that serveth."

Wow. Revelation time for the disciples and for us that read Jesus' words. Jesus, the only begotten, sinless Son of God, came not for the disciples to serve him, but that he could serve them and ultimately us by laying down his life and being crucified for our sins so that we can have eternal life.
If Jesus did that, shouldn't we also love and serve those in need?

I pray that God will open our eyes and help us to recognize even small opportunities where we will let God use us to bless somebody else.

Do you relish or ignore those opportunities?

    Matthew 18:1,4
    1
At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
    4
Jesus said, whosoever shall humble himself as a little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

  •  THE THREE NOT'S

When reading Romans 4, we see where Abraham committed three not's.
    1. - Verse 19 - And being not weak in faith, Abraham considered not his own body now dead, when he was about a hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb.
    2. - Verse 20 - Abraham staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God.

Have you staggered at the promise of God? The greek word for staggered is - diakrino - and means to - separate thoroughly, withdraw, oppose, discriminate, hesitate, contend, doubt, and waver.
Do the promises of God from His word cause you to stagger?
Why don't we believe or trust God and stagger at His promises?

    Abraham considered not:
    1. - His own body now dead, being almost 100 years old.
    2. - The deadness of Sarah's womb, her being 90 years old.

Abraham being strong in faith, didn't consider those things. He didn't even think about it. In order to consider something, you need to think about it.

What does the deadness of Sarah's womb represent for us, and how can we apply that to our own lives?
The deadness of Sarah's womb represents a natural and physical impossibility. She was 90 years old and way past the time of being able to have children, but God gave Abraham a promise that Sarah would give birth to another child, and Abraham believed God's promise and didn't even consider the deadness of Sarah's womb.

What impossibilities do you have in your life?
Are you considering the impossibility and deadness of the situation you are in?

Do you have the three not's in your life?
