Perfect

Today is my darling Mama's birthday!  I know that many of you haven't met her, and I must say, y'all are really missing out!  My Mama is one amazing woman.  She is a faithful and loving wife, a tireless and devoted mother to her eight kids, a wonderful and godly Christian woman.  She is an encouragement and inspiration to me, and I love her so darn much!  So please join me in wishing Happy Birthday to one amazing woman!

The Sound of Music

I got an early birthday present today.  It was totally unexpected, since my birthday isn't 'till the end of April.   Adam gave me a very sweet birthday card, which then led me on a treasure hunt.  After finding all of the clues (some of which took me a while), I had to unscramble the clues to figure out my gift.   And it is a great one!

Adam is taking me to see Spamalot in April!!!!

I am really excited!  Thank you so much, Adam!  You are such a thoughtful and generous brother, and I am so thankful for you!  Thank you for an awesome birthday present!

Edit: Spamalot is a Broadway musical (though we are not seeing it on Broadway) and is a spoof of the King Arthur legend.

Lonely and Gone

My dear friends,
Death has visited my house once again.  Sometime last night, between 11:30 last night and 7:00 this morning, my dear poor fish Algernon gave up his poor little ghost.  I can't say that this is a surprise, since in the past week, Algy has been very sluggish and slow, and he looked especially unhappy last night.  Still, I hoped he would rally, as he had when one of his gills was torn and again when something grew on his upper lip, looking very much like a thin black mustache.  Algy was a very brave and very spunky little goldfish, and yet death must claim us all.
Algernon the 5th had a proud legacy.  I bought him from Samantha Gebert at the TeenPact auction last year.  After traveling with Samantha, he has traveled with me to Georgia, Alabama, Washington DC (twice), Wyoming, and Cape Cod.  Algy was a cheerful little companion, and a great conversation starter with people in the airports and restaurants.  He provided me with many a smile, and I grew quite close to my little pet.
And now Algernon is gone.  He had a grand funeral.  This morning, at 9:05 precisely, Seth and I gathered together in the bathroom, both dressed in red pajamas.  Seth had the honor of flushing Algy, while I stood by and watched my little fish disappear for good.
And now my little fish is gone.  And I must get another one, to carry on the legacy.  As Samantha told me "Don't get attached to the particular fish.  It's just the name that counts."  So, I shall overcome my grief and replace Algy.  But I don't think any other goldfish will ever be as cute as my first fish.

PS.  My Daddy's beta fish also died today.  Hmmm.  Maybe there is something in the water!

It's Chapped lips, and Chapstick, and things like CHEMISTRY

For the past two years, I have been working through Dr. Jay Wile's Exploring Chemistry through Creation and Advanced Chemistry through Creation.  I have loved it!  It has been a bit challenging, but it has been incredibly interesting and so very enjoyable.  Some of my favorite times have been doing Chem Lab, which I have done with my good friend Micah.  We have had quite a few laughs, messed up quite a experiements, and enjoyed playing around with many different chemicals.

We had our last experiment today.  Alas!  Our good times with copper sulfate and droppers and beakers are over!  But we will have our memories, our lab notebooks, and our pictures.  This is one of my favorites, taken today.

On another note:

I got a new MP3 player; a black Toshiba Gigabeat.  I need a name for the new fellow.  Any suggestions, friends?  I need some cool sounding male names, since it is definetly a he.
