| Now, again, because I have been slow with updating the site...here is two weeks worth of info: My birthday, Jan. 22 I turned 18!!! I had the wonderful honor of going to SCHOOL that day, but afterward, I renewed my lisence and I registered to vote. Since then, I have researched all of the presidential canidates and I've kept up with the debates. I've decided that I am voting in the District Primary on Feb. 3 for John Edwards. And - Dennis Kucinich is a moron.
Anyway, on the evening of my birthday, my mom and dad took me to Benton's at the Westin Crown Center Hotel where my salmon was $25. The steaks were $43. The worst though, were the lobster tails...$58! (Yes, none of us ordered that.) It was a NIIIIIICE restaurant, though.
The day after my birthday, Friday, I decided to go to Priscilla's. It was very interesting, and I really didn't find what I was looking for...the clothes they had were TOO extreme for me. The shoppers were the most interesting part of my experience in the store...especially the fat, older couple deciding on dildos.
The next day, Saturday, my friend Geoff took me out for a fun night of being 18. We went to Jardine's Jazz Club and saw Buck O'Neil there. We waited for an hour, and still with no empty seats, we left and went to this Irish bar. I had a lot to drink that night, but I never officially hit drunkedness. Nevertheless, I still had much fun!
This LAST weekend, the weekend of Jan. 30-31: Conference. Mr. Harris made me go to Conf. in LD, a debate that I have never done before. Fortunately, my record was 3-2, and because of silly Conference rules, I missed going on stage by ONE opposition (someone I debated against) loss. Isn't that crazy? Yeah, I was 9th seed. At least I was close. Overall, Raytown WON the Conference tournament. Yes, we won...we beat Park Hill South. They had this idea that they were going to beat us at Conf., but they didn't manage to do so. Haha, just as Curtis was saying after our championship, "Where is Patricia!?"
Other than that, I had some phone difficulties last night and I somehow annoyed a 'friend' of mine who suddenly transformed into a cruel, inconsiderate bastard, and he failed to understand why I told him to calm down and how exactly he was acting very silly. Some people just aren't smart enough.
Anyway...now I'm finished!

| OK! I have not updated this site in a while! But, I have much to say...
Weekend of Jan. 16-17:
On the morning of January 17, I got ready for the tournament...to have a hissy fit about losing my eyeliner. My mom and I arranged that she would buy me eyeliner and then take it to Liberty High School were the tournament was. (I had no time to buy it on my own in the AM.) She was already headed to the tournament because I had invited her to watch me debate.
I drove to my school (we meet there, then go to the tournament) to find out that my partner Becky was sick and could not go. I knew I could find another partner, but Becky had the debate crates (with our case, files, pens, notes, etc.) that I needed. I called Becky's mom and she brought the crates up to school, two of the three that I needed.
The bus departed, and I called my mom back and asked her if, with the eyeliner, she could bring up the other crate. My mom called Becky's mom, she received the other crate, and part of the problem was solved.
The big problem was the question of who would be my partner for this tournament. When Raytown arrived at Liberty, everyone got out their cellphones and started calling other Raytown debaters at 7am who were not scheduled to be at the tournament. Finally, a sophomore Rebecca agreed to head up to the tournament to debate with me.
In the meantime, my mom showed up with the extra crate and my eyeliner.
Round I of debate was scheduled to begin at 9am. At that time, Rebecca had not made it to Liberty yet, and I began to panic! Luckily, another debate pair from my school had a 'bye' round during round I. No way was I going to forfeit the first round because of no partner, so I thought I could just debate with one of the Raytown guys with the bye during this first round. I found Curtis and we went into Round I together and did some debating. My mom watched us and she loved it.
After that round, we were informed that partners cannot alter during the course of the tournament, so, Curtis and I had to debate together during the rest of the tournament. He could not debate the other rounds with his real partner Jared. Jared and Rebecca automatically became their own pairing.
Curtis and I kept winning round after round, we knew it because we competed against stupid people. Anyway, the two of us had our own 'bye' round during the fourth round at the tournament. At that point, we knew our record was 4-0.
Fifth round finally happened, and it was 'power-matched.' During fifth round, Curtis and I went against a pretty good team from St. Joe Central. We felt pretty well about that round, even though we knew it wa a close call...but we would not know the final results until the awards ceremony.
Later, everyone headed to the gym where the awards ceremony was held. The top 16 of every event were recognized at the ceremony. Very obviously, because Curtis and I were sure we had a 4-0 record, (not sure about round 5) we knew we would be getting some type of award.
Indeed, we did. 4/5 policy teams from Raytown were called down to receive trophies. Curtis and I were among them, and the entire time, I kept thinking that we would probably win 7th place, maybe 5th place...nothing 'wonderful.' Finally, the top FOUR teams were left on stage, and Curtis and I were still there, along with another Raytown team, and two others. Then, the top two teams remained on stage...Curtis and I, and our Raytown counterparts! The other team, Mike and Ryan, were announced as second place, and Curtis and I were the only ones remaining! We received a 1st place gavel, beating out 80 people (40 teams) with the 200+ people at the tournament giving us a standing ovation.
We returned to our seats, surprised, and then the 'Top Speaker' award was announced. Curtis and I knew that we had won our rounds with 1 & 2 speaker points every time. I did not put two and two together with the fact that we might also get that award. Again, we were called back up to receive another gavel because our ballots showed that we were the best speaking debate team at the tournament.
My mom likes to think that my eyeliner crisis began my destiny of receiving two first place trophies. Anyway. Since my freshman year in debate, I've worked an worked, and I only have had 2 or 3 trophies to showcase for it. Finally, I received two first place awards, and as my friend Justin from Rockhurst said, "Happy Birthday!" | | |
| I'm not keeping up very well with this silly website.
Since my last entry, I did a two hour workout at the YMCA, (it was great!) and I've seen movies w/ my new friend JR. I met him at that insane New Year's Party...yes, when I was drunk, but he wasn't. He wears dorky looking shoes.
Anyway, tomorrow I get to go to Raytown High School and waste eight hours of my day there. I'm looking foward to it. Then, I'll go to the YMCA again, and I (in truth, not in sarcasm) am looking foward to that.
So, yep. | | |
| See? I'm already not keeping up with my pathetic 'online' diary here. Oh well. Since I haven't updated this for a while, I'll explain what happened for that while.
First, I got my acceptance letter from MU in the mail a few days ago. I was excited. They want me to mail back to them every immunization record I have. So, I went to my doctor's office today and they gave me a copy. Great.
What else happened the last few days? I started school again. Walking into my school at 7:20am on a bitter cold, windy morning, and carrying 20 lbs on my back of lovely books overjoyed me. Not really.
I got buff at the YMCA yeserday afternoon.
My highlight today was leaving school.
While checking my e-mail today, I read something very funny. This goofy guy whom I do not know well at all wrote me an e-mail. I invited him to my birthday gathering coming up soon. He said that THIS weekend, he should figure out where my house is and he'll pick me up and we can do someting. By figuring out where my house is this weekend, he thinks that'll eliminate any confusion he may have getting to my house the day of my birthday party. Cuuuute.
There you go. | | |
| OKI'm 'creating' this Xanga site today because of a friend. The idea behind having a Xanga site and reading others' Xanga sites has not excited me yet. I might not ever get excited about this and realize how adventurous and how 'cool' having a Xanga site can be because I don't believe in *online* or *electronic* journals and/or diaries. Nevertheless, this is my first entry, and I hope Hillary is happy. | | |
