| Yul Kwon Opens Up Red Mango in Palo Alto If you live in the Bay Area, you might be feeling the effects of some extremely hot weather this weekend. So why not cool down with some refreshing frozen yogurt? Better yet, some refreshing frozen yogurt served up by none other than Survivor: Cook Islands winner Yul Kwon? Yes, that's right. My hero served me some yogurt.
Yul—the man, the myth, the legend—just opened up a new Red Mango store in downtown Palo Alto (the first such location in Northern California), serving up tasty frozen yogurt with your favorite toppings. A nice way to hang out on an unusually warm May day. The store officially opened up to the public today, and is located on 429 University Avenue, between Kipling and Waverly. You know you want it.

| Planet B-Boy
With
compelling characters and vibrant dance sequences, Benson Lee's
documentary feature is set in the international world of B-boying—the
urban dance more commonly known as "breakdancing." An American dancer
in Vegas looks for his big break; a Korean son seeks his father's
approval; a 12-year-old boy in France confronts his family's racism—all
the b-boys' lives collide in Germany where their skills are put to the
ultimate test: the "Battle of the Year" finals, with crews from 18
nations vying for the title of World Champion. The film features
electrifying dance performances and astonishing displays of power and
grace, showing how a street dance from New York has evolved into an
inspiring art form for a new generation around the world. Official Web Site

Talented director Hur Jin-ho (Christmas in August, SFIAAFF ‘99) has signed Happiness,
his fourth story of memorable love, with a steady hand and intricate
writing. Melodious and incisive, his storytelling streams into a
seamless account of joys and sorrows, narratives that are familiar and
yet portrayed with vibrant freshness and originality. Casting a sharp,
perceptive look at the simple facts of life, Hur seems to have
inherited from Yasujiro Ozu the ability to crystallize the passing of
time in his films. Young-su (heartthrob Hwang Jung-min) treats
his life carelessly, until he falls ill with cirrhosis of the liver.
Forced to reconsider his lifestyle, he reluctantly decides to go to a
health clinic in the countryside. Eun-hee (Lim Soo-jung) paces her days
carefully, for a critical lung disease is shortening both her breath
and her life. The clinic is a strange place to adapt to and an even
stranger place to fall in love, but inexplicably, Young-su starts to
feel something more than a simple physical attraction to Eun-hee. A
gentle melodrama staged against a background of wounded lives, the film
tiptoes into one’s mind and calmly but assuredly finds a special place
there, dwelling in thoughts and memories long after it ends. Never
overly sentimental, Happiness enjoys a great clarity of
expression and a remarkable transparency of feelings, enhanced by
Hur’s genius in directing his actors. — Giovanna Fulvi, Toronto International Film Festival
