| This is me, sleeping away my Friday night again – every Friday this semester I have one or two exams, so Friday night, I’m dead. Clearly this isn’t working though, 95 on a math test and a 60 on a chem. Test… that was math oriented…. Doesn’t make sense – ok so I’m sore over it, I’ll be fine tomorrow when I furiously start studying chemistry to blow that test away. 4 weeks down, 11 to go. It’s been a while since I’ve updated. Summer came to a bittersweet end and now my brother has joined me on campus – like me he hated it at first however he’s drunken more this week then I did all first semester of my freshman year. So has Brett come to think of it… clearly all this means is that tomorrow night I need to relax and have a lot of fun at our first party of the year!! I hope it goes well, I can do with a party without drama. J here’s the timeline
7.29 last summer fellow’s party – lots of fun!
7.30 helped move the guys out (again)
8.3-8.5 upstate NY for salmon fishing with the family – we stayed in a haunted light house (well the cabin next to it that had AC) the great lakes are GORGEOUS!
8.7 Ange, now VERY pregnant, is induced.
8.8 SAIGE!!!! 8:26pm – I volunteered all day so I was w/her form 9-3 then I came back around 9pm to see the new baby! She weighed 6lbs. 14oz. and was 20in. long.
- during August I spent lots of time w/my home friends (esp. Ange) and OB @ phx hospital, got ready for school (shopping and such), and went swimming as much as possible.
8.25 moved my brother into Stauffer 2
8.27 moved in to Hobson 305
8.28 lil drinkin in 309
8.29 classes began
8.30 first bio exam, Costa Rica, poker night w/the boys (I came in 5th of 9)
9.2 Hobson party type thing… (we played pictionary, not too exciting, but fun)
9.3 Marta came to visit – out to dinner, pour hour in 9th ave.
9.8 Saige = one month old!!
9.9 Par-tay in 208! After the Escape Velocity party in the dance studio!
9.10 home for game night with the crew – the most awkward monopoly elimination ever.
9.12-13 to the ER because I thought there was glass in my eye – turns out it was a stitch that migrated from a surgery location and is now being pushed out of my eye.
9.16 Ochem and stat exams that kicked my ass
9.17 PCOM open house – I really liked what they had to say/show us – hung out w/Fauve in north and then out to the parties, it was a fun night!
9. 21 Hopkins – “I’m glad they didn’t cut that one, that’s the stitch that’s holding your lens in place” so there’s nothing they can do about it, I have to deal! Hopes are that it will heal over and burry itself again.
9.23 micro exam, again kickin my ass
9.24 KDK PARTY!!! Margaritaville!! More to come…
I gotta say, i like being able to use color again!

Dinner at Dave’s (his parents are so cute together!)
The rest of the weekend 7/1-7/4:
After being ditched 2 weekends in a row before that week, Brett finally barely made it down here (there were a lot of people going to philly that night). Live 8 the next day, and we passed out early after dinner at Dave’s house. Sunday I worked, and then we went to the movies – bought tickets for batman but I was seriously indecisive so we ended up seeing war of the worlds (which was good). Monday; independence day – woke up late, went to the fireworks store (Brett can’t buy fireworks in the city so he was amazed). He left for NYC round 5. I invited friends over, watched 3 sets of prof. fireworks that u can see from my house, my 2 neighbors and my brother’s displays and then went to get ice cream. Later that week I finally had my orientation/health screening at the hospital – they didn’t give me a piss test (I freaked out for nothing). But she did give me a bunch of paperwork to fill out, which is finally done – so I start this week!
This past weekend 7/8-7/10:
I went to the beach with the gymnasts @ Laura’s beach house in Sea Isle. It was a nice house, and her family is so sweet! It was nice – though I have to admit I felt a lil awkward being the only non-gymnast there. We got rained on at the boardwalk of OCNJ (havnt been back there since senior week) some lady tried to rob me while we were hiding from the rain. Since it was raining, we went home and drank – played kings and then I passed out – I managed to miss streaking on the beach (no biggie, streaking’s not really my thing…). Sunday the weather was just as good and the ocean was more calm, so we managed to get far out past the wave breaking point. We left after dinner and Hinkle called me on the way home so I went out to play cards w/the gang and brought Trish her present (GG season 1) since she left the underage and hating it club Friday 7/8. (Happy Birthday!!!). And that’s the extent of the interesting aspects of my life… now back to boredom.
| Since I last updated my brother has graduated high school, we had a graduation party, i threw a party at the house while my parents were away and my sister had her first real eye surgery - which turned out well. She’s now officially an organ recipient like me! Summer has been rather boring, I’m still getting the run around from the hospital about volunteering - I picked up some hours at the Y, been spending lots of time outside and babysitting the neighbors a lot. I love the summer for the sheer fact that I don’t have to bundle up to go outside, I can walk around at 2am comfortably and i can sit outside and read - or swim, or tan or whatever i want to do but as long as its outside its ok by me. I've also been attempting to broaden my reading selection... though I’m not doing a good job - I haven’t been to a bookstore in ages. I read a Danielle Steel book about infertility and having children (recomended by a co-worker @ the Y, it was alright, an easy read) - after a few days i began to have dreams in which i would look down to find that i was pregnant. After waking up that morning, a bit shocked, i realized that I am in no shape way or form ready for marriage and children, and I don’t think I will be for a while. I know I want to someday, but I don’t feel ready - my mom went through that at my age too, though I blame her phase on the fact that at this age both of her sisters were pregnant. I think physiology tainted my view of pregnancy too, after learning about all the little parasitic things that fetus' do during pregnancy - it seems like women should die from them. They really do take a tole on the mother's body by using up sooo much energy, tissue, making certain tissues lose their elasticity and function, changing the mother's habbits, having her make 150x the normal amount of hormones her body would make during a lifetime w/o pregnancy, and the whole hemoglobin absorbency level freaked me out a bit, not to mention that the fetus causes so much mental stress on the mother. It really occurred to me that to have a child a woman really is giving herself, selflessly to the child, physically and mentally.
Then there's the whole issue of womanhood - why is giving birth considered a right to womanhood? Would I be less of a woman if I were never to conceive? I mean it’s not so much an issue with my generation - but i know when we get older the latest gossip will be marriage and kids. I noticed a big shift from my home life to college life. Marriage and kids is well accepted at my age with my friends from home but once I got to school i realized that a lot of people are completely unfamiliar with both. Maybe college and working life has altered our internal clocks - so that we don’t think about families until later in life. maybe that's another reason why people are living longer - I’m pretty sure i read a paper on why people live to certain ages based on how needed they are by their families - it is why women go through menopause (to save energy to live longer and take care of the grand children - in some cultures the mother hunts for food while the grandmother takes care of her children).
The other thing that gets me is the opposite sides of the spectra - there are people who go nuts to have kids - they will do anything, IVF, adopt, surrogate, ANYTHING they can to have a kid - the depression caused by this longing could destroy their marriage and they'd let it because all they want is a baby. but then there are those people who have kids and leave them on doorsteps - I’m not talking about the ones who are homeless or have a really good reason to selflessly want their child to have a better life then they have - I’m talking about people like those who refuse to use birth control but have abortion after abortion after abortion. I'm not against abortion (when it’s necessary), but its so bad for the body! Just use a condom!!! And then there's the people who abuse their children... I don’t quite understand the whole psychology behind that one. More power to the kids who survive though, they truly are strong, as long as they don’t turn around and pass on the action to the next generation. Anyways, I feel like I’ve touched on a subject that needs a lot more thought then I’ve currently put into it. It also touches on a few other subjects I’ve been interested in… but I won’t go there today.
Anyways, not much is happening this week – live 8 is Saturday and I’m going despite my thoughts that it could be a terrorist target. No plans for the 4th yet, though the weekend after that I’ll hopefully be at the shore w/some of the girls who are living on campus this summer. It should be fun as long as it doesn’t rain every day like last time.

| The baby shower went well - Ange had no idea we were planning out despite all of Michelle's attempts to get her out of the house the day before. She's all set now, except for a swing (which she got enough money to buy) for baby Saige's arrival! We picked up a few ants as we brought in the bags... but they were easy to get rid of. We all hung out for a bit and then ended up playing Texas hold 'em later.
The week wasnt that exciting - i have a B+ in world lit which i had to take due to lack of transportation, so i couldn’t take the final. I'm fine with that though. Clouser wrote me an email that said if i ever need a recommendation to ask him any time. That was sweet; none of my profs have ever said that. It made me feel like i was actually a good student for once lol. I babysat the neighbors across the street. Kiley is an exocentric 5 year old. And Caleb is the skinniest 3 year old I’ve ever met – he’s got an attitude though! Into the power ranger’s phase, he insists on being called “Shane” (apparently the Red ranger’s name) “Caleb time for bed” “you mean Shane right?’ They’re both cute and they’re very good kids.
Saturday i filled in for Kim at work and then went out w/Amie - we had dinner @ Max & Ermas (just a salad, but it was good) and then saw The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants - it was a cute movie, and now, I want to visit Grease. J After the movie we went up to campus to see what was going on… ended up at Elliot in the Phi Kap suite! (Jay, Jesse, and Dave) Bibi and a few other girls I didn’t know were there too. It was quite the party for the few people who were there. We left around 2 and spent the night in Feteroff. Upon washing my face the next morning, who did I run into in the bathroom? None other then Jason and Anne, very interesting morning encounter (considering I was half asleep). Yay for another day of work. I began reading Kim’s Angels & Demons… now I want my own.
Tonight I‘ll be babysitting while my bro goes to baccalaureate and dad picks up my brother’s friend from the airport (Patrick, from FL) Graduation is tomorrow and there will be a big party on Saturday – give me a call & stop by after 2pm!
