I break the months long silence to pop in and see how everyone is doing...

As for me, I'm OK.

Life pretty much consists of work, sleep and beach. Not a terrible mix, but it's getting to be a bit mundane. I think I'm ready to get back to New York more than anybody.

Being back home is strange. Just the little things, like discovering your neighbors still have their Christmas lights up.

If we can just get through July, the pace should start picking up.

By the way, does anyone know when the money for Peru is due?

Only things accomplished have been sleep and laundry. I have to find a job soon! Meanwhile, all of my 'home friends' are still at college for another week. Damn NYU for sending me home so early.

All in all, London was an amazing time. Great memories, great people, and I can't wait to go back. Until then, I've got that great BritPop to keep the memories fresh.

My London Mix tape:

1. "I Begin to Wonder" Dannii Minogue (Who knew Kylie Minogue had a sister!?!?!)

2. "Don't Worry" Appleton (The sisters from All Saints, kinda annoying, good song though)

3. "You Said No" Busted (As annoying as these guys were all semester, I'll miss their catchy tunes)

4. "Make Luv" Room 5 ( I never want to hear this song again...think Lynx TV commercial every five minutes)

5. "Unbreakable" Westlife (Ah, my obsession with Irish boybands!)

6. "Murder on the Dance Floor" Sophie Ellis Baxtor (*The real posh spice)

7. "Love Doesn't Have to Hurt" Atomic Kitten (The song my hairdresser and I argued over...I like it, he hated it...I had to agree with him in the end because he did have a pair of sissors hovering over my head)

8. "Speechless" D-Side (Westlife v.2.0)

9. "Our House" Madness (That old 80s tune gets new life with musical based on the songs of...Madness? Not a good idea)

10. "Lately" Lisa Scott-Lee (Popstars reject gets new life, only in the UK)

11. "Move Your Feet" Junior Senior (Possibly the best/catchiest song of the mix...although they're Dutch, they still make the list)

12. "Long Goodbye" Ronan Keating (The blueprint for all the irish boybands lads...mmm...)

13. "Dreaming of You" The Coral (Cute Liverpool lads, great psychadelic alt rock, awesome cd)

14. "Feel / Come Undone" Robbie Williams (Didn't want to put anyone on the list twice, but, oh, come on, IT'S ROBBIE!!!)

15. "Spirit in the Sky" Gareth Gates (Oh, *sigh*, love...you...Gareth--I'm not a pedaphile! He's 19!)

bonus track: "Work It" Nelly feat. Justin Timberlake (I known they're not British, not even European, but the song/video was only released in the UK...for good reason...que rediculo!)

Well, there you go. I suggest downloading them all, and don't be afraid to just start dancin'!

Sunday, May 11, 2003

Back in the US, back in the US, back in the UsssssA!

(and mumps free!)

Tambien, una palabra: PERRRRRRU!

Thursday, May 08, 2003

I HAVE THE MUMPS.

That's right everyone. Run in fear. Run, run away! I'm contagious!!!

First of all, who the fuck gets the mumps? Secondly, YES I HAVE BEEN VACINATED. Thirdly, they have to notify the National Health Department. I'm a freak.

I go to England, I don't get Mad Cow, but I get the Mumps. Apparently, 1 in 10 people who gets vacinated still gets the mumps if exposed to the virus. My lucky day!

For everyone who doesn't know what the mumps means, I have one word: Puffy. I spent the entire weekend in my room. The entire left side of my face was one puffy mess. I didn't have a chin or a jaw line. Disguuuuusting! Thankfully I am almost fully recovered. I had to emerge on Tuesday to take an exam, with a scarf covering my face. I've learned to style my hair all to one side, covering it up. One week later and I still can't look in a mirror. What a great way to end the semster. Well, I have two days left to make the most of it. Finals are over, let's get drunk.

Tuesday, April 29, 2003

Wow, less than two weeks left in London.

Mixed emotions: I have really started to miss New York. London and New York seem so similar on the surface, but really, they're very different. I love London for the parks and the different atmosphere, and the feeling that everything is so close. There's so much history as well. Oh, and I'll miss all the pop music. (But if I hear that damn Busted song again, I'm going to screeeeeaaaam!) But New York is special. You know that, I know that. I'm very excited for next semester. Not at all excited for this summer. So far I have no plans. Still waiting on someone to sweep me off to the Mediterranean for a few months. Anyway, this is just the first of my musings on leaving London. *tear*

Tonight we're going to see a rugby game. I figure it'll be a good break from the continuous nights of paper writing and presentation planning. I can get out all my agressions I feel toward my professors right now.

Yesterday it rained all day, the first time it's done that in a while. Kinda sad. Hope for better weather for the weekend...my last full weekend in London.

Registration? Shall we discuss that cruel beast?

I think I speak for all school of ed students studying abroad by yelling out a general, "What the F*CK?!"

Long story short, I had to resort to using a southern accent on the phone with the registration woman so she wouldn't figure out it was I who had just called her four times in a row, registering for other people who had to go to class.

Conversation went a little like this:

Registration woman: Hi, what's your problem?

Me: Hah, Ahm ahvin' some problems rigisterin' for mah classes.

R.W.: Really? What kind of problems?

Me: Oh, ya know, with the computer n all. I figered you'd help me better than me figerin' it all out for mahself.

R.W.: Um, right. Okay, student ID number?

Me: Sure, got that right here. *********.

R.W.: Right. (pause) This is...Ellen? Ellen Choi?

Me: Yep!

R.W.: Okay, you better just give me your password as well.

Me: No prahblem.

R.W.: Okay...Ellen...what classes did you need to register for?

(Go through whole process. Woman probably thinking to herself, "When did asian women from southern california start having terrible southern accents??" We finish.)

Me: Is that all? Well, thank yah very much. Have a nah-ce day!

Monday, April 14, 2003

Well, I can't register for any classes right now so I'm trying to de-stress by writing a weblog. Not working......... !!!!

Follow up to spring break:

We had an amazing time. So in love with Italy right now.

Only one month left:

I'm going to miss London terribly. I've grown to love it here, and I am seriously considering moving here after graduation. Would you miss me?

Isabel had her West End debut last night and was fantastic. We went to "The Garden Club" after in Covent Garden with Ellen and Sterling, which was great, until Isabel found her permanent station for the rest of the evening with head over public toilet. However, she did say that was her goal at the beginning of the night, we just didn't realize how quickly she would succeed. And to note, had a Caiparina last night at the club. Oh! Memories!

Back to yelling at the computer and cursing Albert and everything it stands for. I'm making t-shirts: I HATE ALBERT. Who wants one?

PS: I just saw Casey Affleck walking down the street on my way here to the computer lab. No at hot as I thought he would be, and he was deffinetely "with" a girl. Bagh.

Thursday, March 13, 2003

Germany was fun.
