as you can probobly tell, today is Gabby's birthday. Gabby is the best friend that Teresa D. Lesley and I met at lake dillion last year. It was while the three of us went on our REALLY long canoe trip. and Gabby ended up being with us. Many of you have met beautiful Gabby. With her lucious red hair, and sporty manner. But for those of you who haven't, I'll introduce her to you. In a minute. Because my Dad needs the Computer.

woah, so tonight is the opening night for the play. Nuff said about that.

my life has been consumed by this writing class!!! i am thinking writing 24/7, and really not enjoying it. BUT! i will be a better writer in the end. so, it is all good.

Here is the essay that i recently wrote for the class. tell me what you think. even if it is boaring, please read it!

What is a farmer to do, when the one way that he can feed and take care of his family, is to be unnecessarily cruel to animals? Unfortunately, this is a reality in today’s meat market.

Milk fed veal is a big industry right now, which is growing in Canada, and the United States. The UK would also be in that line up, but veal “growing” was banned there, for moral motivations. This delicious, tender meat is popular for many reasons. For starters, veal is a very healthy meal: on average a cooked three oz. serving of veal contains only 166 calories and only 5.6 grams of fat. Because of veal's low fat content, it has very little waste, so a pound of veal can yield four three oz. servings. Not only is it a good source of low-fat protein; veal is also an excellent source of niacin, zinc, and vitamin B12 and B6. (In comparison, a serving of beef sausage has 332 calories, 28 grams of fat, 11 grams of saturated fat, and doesn’t have any vitamins B.) Veal is a favorite among gourmet cooks, because it is more flexible, and therefore can be cooked in countless different ways.

In short, veal is a smart choice over regular meat. On the other hand, this tender protein comes at a cruel price. The calves are fed a milk substitute formula, without grain or other means of nutrition. And these calves will never have the chance to live outside of their crates. “The formula fed to the calves is sometimes lacking in iron, causing anemia and producing the pale flesh. Most calves in factory farms are kept in veal crate... The crates are 2 feet wide and provide enough room for them to stand or lie down. They are sometimes chained or tethered at the neck to restrict their movement. The lack of exercise means that the muscle can’t develop, producing the tender meat that consumers enjoy. (http://cfhs.ca/farm/veal_crates/)” According to a recent farm sanctuary investigation of Wisconsin veal farms, they found calves “Covered with feces, the calves’ skin was raw and irritated, and in some cases, afflicted with open sores.” (This information was gathered from www.noveal.org, an organization trying to ban veal production in the United States.) God gave humans the responsibility to take care of animals, and they in turn would provide us with food and (in the past) clothing. That doesn’t mean that we can treat them how ever we want. This “report” certainly sounds like veal production is out right cruelty to calves.

But according to vealfarm.com, the animals are housed in properly lit barns, with a heating system for the winter, and a ventilation system for the summer. “Calves in individual housing can comfortably lie in a natural position, stand up, groom themselves and interact with their neighbors.” This doesn’t sound at all like the “Wisconsin” report. How can there be two totally different answers for the same question? These questions can be impossible to answer over the internet, so I interviewed a worker at a real veal farm: Billy Horn. Billy has worked for his next door neighbor, who owns a veal farm, for 4 years. He helps build the stalls, and has taken care of the calves at times. I asked Billy how wide the stalls are, and he confirmed that they are anywhere from 20-30 inches wide, usually 24 inches The veal cows that he has examined were very healthy and happy. There were no skin defects that he could see, except for some roughing around the neck, which was caused from the collar. When I asked what the cows are fed, he replied that is was something like what an athlete would eat, like a protein shake. Billy says that his boss, Jim, really doesn’t like raising veal. Despite Jim’s good care of them, it seems cruel to him to raise veal, and he rather wouldn’t. But right now there is a lower market in regular cow meat. All the money is for veal. and all he is doing is trying to feed his family. With only a high school education, Jim doesn’t have the opportunity to stop farming just because all the money is for veal. I asked Billy what he thought, personally of raising veal cows, and he says that he thought it was cruel to raise cows like that. He thinks that we should “go back to raising veal, and cow, organically, off of grass only, no corn and “protein” shakes. And that they should be able to live in a field, like the other cows.”

Is it reasonable to think that people will just give up their tender meat, because some think that it is wrong? Fortunately, there are other ways that we can raise veal. According to http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=13735305, it is possible to raise veal calves in pens with “group rearing” and feed them solid food, or “maize grain supplementation, may improve growth performance without impairing carcass and meat quality.” And then this web site, http://www.ciwf.ie/farminfo/farmfacts_veal.html, says that, “These improved group housing systems provide the calves with plenty of straw and also give them more space. The veal from these more welfare-friendly systems may be called "rose veal" and (we) believe that this is a better way to produce veal.”

Instead of putting these poor farmers out of a job and a way to feed their families or even ignoring the issue all together, I think that we should try and promote “rose veal”, or “group veal” in our communities. Write letters to local restaurants, or stores, asking them to only carry those kinds of veal. It is a more humane way to create veal, while still getting the tender coveted meat loved by so many. Eating animals is not wrong, and while the veal calves may still not be allowed to run and live “born free!” They are provided with a good life, clean atmosphere, good diet, and companionship. This is more than some humans get.

on my break at work again.
so, i talked to slim last night... i miss him, and nothern tier, and this summer! it was so funny and a culture shock to talk to him, because i just spent all week with a bunch of amazing homeschoolers, and people who don't swear, and then i am talking to him last night... and, yah, it was drastic.
I was trying to learn stop this train, by john mayer, today. GEEZE golly! it's hard. BUT BEAUTIFUL!! after Blackwell gave his speach, they played Keep Truckin... great. So, I'll keep "truckin" at the song. I don't know, i am so tierd! Last night, Howard and i were so tierd, that we decided to boy-cott work, adn so we just sat in the office having a tea party, engilsh breakfast tea, so we were trying to talk in english accents. I failed, only because Howard is so stinking good. You all should come in and hear his animal accents.
Hm, my break is over.

Gee, you all need to call me, because there is no way that i can put into words all that has happened just in the last few days. well, make that week. I have more confirmations that my house may be haunted, i tried to pour my self into campaining for blackwell, and i may of complained alot, but i really didn't mean it. I loved it, really, and i just wish that this county had won! I didn't realise how increadable Blackewll was, untill his speach last night, when he was praising God, even as he lost the election. He isnt a fake. And the reality of what we were fighting for. I just feel so on fire now to do somthing, hm, if only i had realised this all a few days ago...
internet time is up, so, yah.

I NEED SOMTHING TO DO!!!!! really, i have been in this house far too long, and all i do is sit around and eat chocolate, watch TV, play my guitar, read, and, do YOGA because NOTHING else was on tv! yah, that was fun. i really sucked at it, but it was fun! BUT! all of those subjects are exhausted, so, then i just went to kroger, and talked to colin, he has a girl friend, and i think it is so cool, because she is my best counsins best friends other best friend! i love this world! imagine the odds.... well, spelling odd reminded me that i saw SOOOo much fairly odd parents this weekend, and even the musical one. great show. and I miss colin.

and then i talked to Teresa and Schmitty, all in kroger, and everyone was staring at me because i was talking about the musical Urin Town (which my parents just saw) and everyone was looking at me strange like, "why are you talking about a pee town?" belive me, that is what they were saying (and i was looking for Mindy, but i didn't find her... ) wow, that was fun. AGH! i miss you granville! most espeshially... *ahem* TERESA!!! and lesley, (who i also talked to, oh! dang! i didn't watch foot ball todAY!!!!!! tragedy...) and schmitty, schermiFF, david, aces high, ( yes, i love them! music... ) and, everyone else! But NOT erin because she would rather talk to Catherine instead of me. imagine that.

wow, this is going to be wierd coming to this site and not seeing HAPPY BIRTHDAY LESLEY! so, muh, well, change happens. like, if i was to do a serious post, then it would be talking about how much is changing around here, and how i am so stressed out, and all this crap, but, yah. not in the mood. for once. my Van is falling apart. Nav, is Van backward. Navvan, is the name of my vehical. i was just informed.

i love matt costa, and dave matthews, and of course jack johnson. so, i guess i'll go and play my guitar, so, i can yah.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR HOMECOMING!!! catherine and i figured out this move that Colin showed me, the key hole, and we figured it out so that the guy dose the key hole too, and it is so cool! wohoo! and then the amazing new dip that goes with it. so, Homecoming is going to be the greatest dance party ever!

did you know, that you save 9 cents on gass if your tiers are properly inflated? yup!

Last night, catherine and i went to g-ville, and snuck into the high school with Erin, and had this great adventure, and then we got paper and stuff from Her locker, and made this great AmAzInG birthday sign for lesley! and then we tried to put it on her locker (i had gum, so we used that... sorry les!) BUT, erin wasn't sure which one was hers... so we opened all the ones that would open, and figured that none of those were hers, and then randomly picked one. HOPEFULLY it is hers... if not, she might still see it. please.... yah. so,

We found this web on the front porch. It’s a funny web, because it’s not circle shape like most others are. It’s shaped like a rectangle. It has some triangular shapes and is ripped up a lot. The lines are close, and there are flies in it. They are dead. This spider sucked them up dry.

HM, i don't know what that it ^^^ i accidentially pushed somthing, and i think that it is one Of Jacobs reports on somthing, pertty amazing job... espeshially that last line!

SO, if you do, you should go to the food court between 2 and 4pm today, and do a interview at sips. It would be amazinG! you and i would be working together... in spirit... so, go there, and get a job! it is really fun working there. you get to make espresso, and wraps, and have free coffee... all around a really good idea!

so, yesterday i was walking along, and then i was walking along on a small wall next to the sidewalk, and i fell on my face. yah, it was pertty imbaressing... but really funny!

also, there was this mission at my church, and my family was asked to do the music, so, we did, and it was so cool! we were all up in the balcony, and i had my guitar, and my mom was on a fake piano, that was still amazing, and it was fun. and then afterwards they had a big birthday party for everyone so, you go in to the cafiteria, and there are 12 tables setup, an dyou sit at the one that your birthday would be, like, for me it was march! and all the old ladies just kept on giving me cake! it was good good yah.

i changed the strings on my guitar yesterday, lovely! so, i hope it works... i took a few short cuts, because i was lazy... and it is still working... still... yup, so, lala.

i work today. yaya money! so, i am going to be closing, though, an di HATE closing, because i really like making latte's and food, and you get to do more of that if you work in the morning. so, one of you should come in and order a latte. at 4-close. hm, or not. thats ok, i'll forgive you....

AMAZING! wow, we were right next to the stage, like, the amazing black guy could make eye contact with me! i was the closest to him! wow, there is no other music that can make you fall in love with a large old black guy that is missing I love blues... wow. I went to the bluesfest lastnight, after work, in the "other" town. AND IT WAS SO his two teeth and his pinkey. then Blues... i am quoting someone, but i don't remember who said that. I knew one of the songs... so, yah. And Danielle was there, and it was so wierd, we matched! really, we were wearing the same shirt that said, i'm with the band, so we got a picture with the cool guy, and i got them to sign my shirt! woh.

so, i love the guitar.... thats the moral to that story.!

I finially made a really good friend at work! she is new, and its so awesome. But, she is a senior, so, she is leaving next year, like everyone this year, and Teresa next year... blah. lfdlfads!

I had lunch at the Maurers today, and i met grandma, sorry, but that was just so cool.

and i am a chaffuer, spelling, i know, but it is just a part of me by now! so, yah, i drove everyone this weekend! it feels so wierd to think of when i didn't have a licence.

and, this is all i have time for, i have to familiaze. because i have been gone, and patrick cut his hair, and we have a really old chess game that needs to be finished.

so, other highlights? teresa, whits, kelsey, gracie, yah, just this whole weekend.
