another school year is here

Tuesday, August 08, 2006

life in the apartments so far is mostly lots of moving in and out, but things are falling into place.  yesterday and today tiff and i cleaned out the closet and kitchen and our dishes and utensils.  it took a few hours but cleaning and orgainizing feels nice after they're done.  we have some great kitchen gadgets...who knew that a kitchen could be so fun to play with?

i have become a huge fan of george foreman grills, laptop computers, and cleansing wipes.  and today i found two very wonderful things...one was my 50 dollar macy's gift card that i thought i lost.  and also my can opener so i could cook, after searching through all our ktichen things and then borrowing tim's...i realized that i had one stored in my room.  funny how that always happens.

It’s time to leave home and go back to LA again.  Only a few weeks ago I remember not being completely ready to move up and now I’m not completely ready to move down.  Funny how hard it is leaving the safe place you get comfortable in, but after a short while you adjust and it’s not so bad after all.  Sometimes trying to reconcile between two different worlds is still a little weird.  It’s nice to know that even though some things change, some don’t.  People change, but it’s great when the family and home friends can pick up where we left off like we haven’t been away for the year scattered at different colleges.  Summer is such a funny time, but a welcome break.  I guess it’s only half over, except I am dumb.  I don’t know what I was thinking when I signed up for summer school!  Maybe a little forced disciple won’t hurt…kind of ease into the studying process again.  Eh.  Time to play though, since class is only twice a week!  And work.

Speaking of work, my summer job at the Alameda school campus was definitely an interesting experience.  Being a teacher’s assistant to fifth grade was pretty laid back.  They were big but not too old to give you hugs.  Fifth grade life is pretty simple.  The epitome of cool seems to be those shoes with wheels and having dollars to buy snacks during field trips.  The second graders were smaller and cuter but more of a handful.  I was asked to teach second grade art, and I thought “umm, I’m not so artistic”.  Hahaha…oh well as long as the projects seemed fun and imaginative in the kids’ eyes, the level of sophistication could just be zero.  Art history wasn’t all that interesting to me, teaching art elements was all right, and the projects were fun.  It’s a great feeling when you find some projects that they really enjoy, but it’s hard to keep them entertained for such a long time too.  I learned that paint is not so good.  I realized even more how much I don’t want to be a teacher, but it’s possible that I might end up one anyway.  Possibly not likely…haha.  I love kids, but this was the most challenging bunch I’ve ever seen while working during past summer sessions.  It was pretty fun though.

Ok, going to see how apartment life goes!  Come visit me please. =)

it's currently 5:20 am and since i won't make it to a first and last 8 am breakfast this year, i might as well make a goodbye post now.

leaving LA....ok actually this was taken after we lost in the ncaa championships but it is kind of sad that second year of college is over already.

1) bye to chinese class- took a whole year of  mandarin.  i'm glad it's over because every day was a little too much.  however, it was pretty good to learn it with hao peng yous.  haha josh said that if he was 30 years older, he'd date fu lao shi.  hahaha.

chinese group skits are the best.  xue zhong wen!

2)bye to the aacf senior class....thanks for all your faithfulness in serving the fellowship...i'll miss you guys- don't leave!  have fun at graduations =)

bye baley....=(  have fun at princeton!

3)bye to dorm life...i'll miss the convenience but maybe not the food.  actually, i might miss it again when i start to cook.  how weird to think i'm going to be an upperclassman living in the apartments.

4)goodbye LA

leaving is bittersweet...i need home and real blue skies, but i'll miss hanging out down here too.  la is fun...but will be back for summer session c...(sadly, even though i don't believe in taking summer school)

anyways...hello to summer!  and we're done with finals =)

i'm a horrible updater, but i'm working on it now that there's a lot more free time since it's finals week. haha.   so i was about to post an entry about the ensenada mission trip during spring break, over two months after it occurred, and then i read my subscriptions and came across kevin's xanga.  he just posted also.  hahaha...but it was a  nice, long post on the trip in detail and so just go look here instead.  hahah so i did not forget about ensenada.  oh btw, the aacf summer ensenada trip is coming up soon in august.....ok picture time

Praise God for how He has been working in and through the lives of those in Ensenada, such as Pastor Martin and Pastor Chava and their church congregations!  It was a blessing to serve there with such great team members. Seeing how each one of you contributed different talents, stepped up to take on various responsibilities, and cared for each other's needs  was so encouraging esp. with your genuine desire to glorify God.

"Let love be without hypocrisy.  Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good.  be devoted to one another in brother love; give preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to one another in prayer, contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality." Romans 12:9-13
