  • Random Post

Everyone else always has a random post once in a while and I realized I never had one.

Looking back @ my childhood I think i was a rather smart child. Or rather more astute than what most childhood television writers expected from their intended audience.

One show I absolutely hated was that Scooby Doo piece of crap.

The storyline was ALWAYS the same the story begins with some sort of ghost/alien/monster harrassing some family/landowner/business and then the mystery van pulls up, they get "clues" they run around the screen a little bit and then they capture said villain and then right before the unveiling Velma tells everyone who it is. And then it ends with that stupid line "I would've gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddling kids." With the police walking away with the villain.

Now what I most despised about this show growing up was first of all when they are chasing each other through the hallways, when shaggy or someone moves past the screen even if the villain comes up a second later, he has NO idea where he went. As if the screen magically teleports the character into oblivion. Below is a paint image describing what I mean.

                                         stupid scooby doo

I mean come on even if im 8 or sumthing I still realize that theres something called a line of sight if someones chasing me down a straight school hallway and i duck into a classroom obviosuly hes gonna see me. And honestly visually this wasnt the most stimulating cartoon either, the drawings were too platform the characters only moved from the left and right of the screen no sense of depth whatsoever. And the story was always the same, never was there a to be continued episode or did anything crazy ever really happen. Also the Fred and Daphne were so useless, at least scooby and shaggy provided some comic relief and sometimes luckily came upon some crazy clue. Here ends my scooby doo rant.

Now onto the next childhood show that was annoying, Power Rangers. Now don't get me wrong I absolutely LOVED this show but there were some things that were just soooo stupid.

The first part was, whenever the rangers were battling on the ground (which I don't even understand why), and they were shot at by some sort of gun. The laser that was emitted from the gun would always travel BEYOND where they were standing to the mountain like a mile away from them and after the explosion occured, half a second later the rangers would throw themselves onto the ground. That just didn't make sense to me, no way was the splash damage large enough to reach them or could there even be a possibility of a sonic wave that would cause them to flail around.

                                        power rangers

So if you didn't understand what I meant this is a visual representation of what happens. Although the rangers are far enough away from the blast they still get affected and thus the following image is thus:

                                power rangers visual 2

Secondly what I didn't understand was, when they were fighting the monsters that rita created, why didn't they just call on their zords and step on it? I mean the fight was eventually going to get gargantuan, why not speed along the process or why didn't rita just send the monster in as a giant creature? Although I do realize at times she created monsters with an element of stealth so that the rangers wouldn't realize something was up.

But alas even though the Power Rangers like the Scooby doo show had a typical storyline, there were some great episodes, such as the creation of Tommy and the Green ranger, that saga was awesome. Also when some of the zords were captured and we got to see each individual zords special power like the freezing trunk breath of the mastadon. AWESOME. The white ranger saga, was also great. And the rumors of a purple ranger, or maybe that was jsut me.

All in all this was a very random xanga entry in tribute to my childhood, although it seems like I didn't enjoy it. I most certainly had a great childhood.

  • Hit on By a Midget

So out of my entire experience here in the D.C. metro area, this has got to be by far the strangest ever.

So to get to the metro(subway) where I live, it's a 20 minute walk, a 20 minute bus ride, or a 10 minute shuttle and on the weekends I usually take a bus since its like a humid high 90s and the shuttle doesn't run. I get on and after a little bit we stop and this little person gets on, and this little person was the most peculiar little person I've ever seen because her arms, head, and feet appeared to be a normal length, but she was a little person nonetheless. So she gets on sits across from me, and I think nothing of it. A little bit into the ride, we make eye contact and the following conversation occurs...

    little person: You look nice.

    me: thank you....

little person: your shirt is very pretty:

    me: thanks...

and immediately after I pretend to sleep as to avoid another unnecessary awkward conversation.

I guess reading it, it doesn't seem like a big deal, but at the time I was like uhhh...what the heck is going on. I was about to just ignore her and give her a weird look. But then I was like, you know she's just being nice and probably just wanted to a nice person. Man but too bad she wasn't a cute baegin girl or a pretty korean girl with a british accent...

Or the conversation would've probably gone like this...

    cute girl: you look nice.

me: why thank you, and wow you have a lovely accent. are you just visiting the DC area?

cute girl: little giggle, thank you and actually I just flew in from London the other day.

me: Oh really, I remember when I went to London I learned so much there. I'm actually from new york and came here for the summer, if you'd like I could show you around.

cute girl: why that'd be just great.

But alas she was neither of the above mentioned. This pretty much sums up my entire stay in the DC metro area, for those few strong xanga users who visit my site. ahahhhhahha

And yes I do have a very vivid and elaborate imagination, but hey it's cause I'm an only child :)

  • Can't they even mock Kim Jong Il correctly?

An editorial cartoon, also known as a political cartoon, is an illustration or comic strip containing a political or social message, that usually relates to current events or personalities.

That according to wikipedia... which isn't the greatest source is the definition of a political cartoon

"Binghamton has become the premier public university in the northeast because of its outstanding academic programs, such as the Binghamton Scholars and Discovery initiative, and its commitment to undergraduates."

That statement is from the 2006 Fiske Guide to colleges, and has been plastered around our campus.

Pipe Dream, which for those that do not attend Binghamton University, is our campus' newspaper. It's pretty wack, to be honest with you, and lately it's articles, and particularly the editing has been quite annoying. Such as that Franklin Graham article that was on the front page a while ago, which I won't even begin on. Also the fact that on the front page of yesterday's paper there was a CLEAR but insignificant mistake of improper placing of captions. You might be saying "Luther aren't you overreacting?" it's just a caption. Yeah I probably am overreacting, but this is the front page of a newspaper. In my limited knowledge of editing and crap, I feel that, that having a silly mistake on the front page is like spelling your name wrong on your resume; that's a pretty bad first impression to give IMHO.

Well today in the editorials I came across this political cartoon.

I mean come on... Honestly how hard is it to draw a cartoon of this guy?

It seriously annoys me of the ignorance of the people in my supposed "premier public school". That cartoon of N. Korea is obviously just a stereotypical CHINESE person, I'm obviously more scrutinous of the picture due to the fact that I am korean, but if your going to use a political cartoon to emphasize your point, get your facts straight. If this was a cartoon about like Russia and U.S. relations I wouldn't ignorantly draw a cartoon of a mobster holding a bottle of vodka to represent the president of Russia. And it wouldn't be as bad if USA was depicted as a redneck American or like a cowboy even, but because USA is represented by a comical figure of George W. Bush, it's even more of an insult. Am I overreacting? Most likely, but sometimes I feel that we, collectively as Koreans and as Asians, don't respond at all to situations like this and blow these issues over. If this happened to the African-american community, it would be OUTRAGEOUS, but since it's towards an asian demographic, I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in my school to have noticed this. Well there goes my two cents.

And my bitterness towards the Pipe Dream continues, please Pipe Dream redeem yourself.

And I leave you with this, just to show it's not that I can't take a joke. I just can't take bad jokes.

  • October: Missions Month

Well... for those non-bingers out there who read my xanga....
I attend a church here at Binghamton called Calvary Baptist Tabernacle, and every year the month of October
is dedicated as missions month. Basically this is the one month where Caltab focuses on missions by having
missionaries and such speak for a whole month.

Today the speaker was a Chinese misionary who planted churches in many parts of Canada and I think China as well. I'm not too sure cause I fell asleep through most of the sermon. ahhahaha
But a couple things I do remmeber is the "10/40 window" and also God's calling for ones life.
For those of you who do not know, the 10/40 window is ...
"an area of the world that contains the largest population of non-Christians in the world. The area extends from 10 degrees to 40 degrees North of the equator, and stretches from North Africa across to China."

more information can be found at 1040window.org

hmmmm.... and for me whenever I here the term missions and missionaries I get a little turned off...
some of you guys may be thinking wow this guy is a jerk, these people are going out of their comfort zones and
going after God's calling for their lives.
I don't know why, but I felt , growing up in a Christian environment, the only way a person was to live a "good Christian" life was to become a pastor or a missionary. If you weren't one of those things, were you really living
for God's glory or for your own...?
And so after a couple of year struggling with this, I thought I figured it out... sorta....
I came to the realization that you know what, missions isn't about going out to the ends of the world, sure Jesus does call us to go to Judea, Samaria and the ends of the world... and people tend to focus on the ends of the world a little too much and not the JUDEA and SAMARIA part...
So throughout my college career I was trying to think of a major/career path that would help me reach out to the mission field I feel is neglected the most, Judea meaning right here., right where you are. In your dorm room, in your campus, in your hometown, in your workplace.
So through a little soul-searching and stuff I decided to do computer engineering, and some of you might say, what the heck.... how is that gonna be God's calling for you?
But to that I say, why can't it be? Why can't my classmates who are so technologically inclined and those in my workpalce that may think too logically and therefore consider Christianity a mere irrational idea, need Jesus also?
Indigenous people and those that are in third world countries aren't the only people that need to be saved, if anything the educated, the people who think they DON'T need Jesus need to hear it the most.
    ....
But alas I come upon this concept I've been struggling once again...
What is the Christian life all about, am I really living the life I should be living?
Am I really truly following God's calling for my life?
Is it to preach the gospel and proclaim Christ throughout our lives?
if it is then why does it seem that the gospel message isn't stressed enough
Is it to be morally good people?
it can't be casue then we might as well be buddhist or just be good law abiding citizens.

Did I just pick computer engineering cause of the possibility of financial gain, and used the whole I can witness to my peers in order to rationalize and justify my decision?
I still feel stuck and think that in order to be the man of God that I want to be, I need to be poor and live in a hut in the plains of African sahara...
Or if anything am I stressing about something that really doesn't matter?

I asked God for wisdom, and discernment of His truth...
Can I handle the bigger vision that God hopefully has planned for my life?

yet again some Jebus would be nice right around now...
