Today I left the house at 8:15 to babysit my usual kids. When I got there, Adam was eating toast, Abby was asleep, and there were various other children scattered throughout the house. When their parents left and Abby woke up, Abby, Adam and I watched The Swan Princess together while Noah, Sam and Isaac watched "a scary movie," as Abby described it, in the attic.
These people have the coolest house ever. It's a big farmhouse out in the country that was once a station on the Underground Railroad. They have an old carriage-house that they converted into a garage, apple and pear trees, a chicken-house and a cow and calf. The house has three stories and is generally amazing, though it is pretty creepy when I'm there at night, all the kids are asleep. Also, sometimes the doors open and close by themselves. :) It's just the wind and the way old houses are, but still, it's pretty unnerving.
So after we watched The Swan Princess, I helped Isaac build a robot. All we really did was find a Star Wars helmet to be the head, football pads for the body, and a broom for it to sweep with, but hey, I though it was a pretty good robot. Then Adam and I went outside, because he really wanted to even though it was freezing. He wore one purple Dora the Explorer glove and refused to wear anything on his other hand, which turned out to be a bad idea.
After we came back in, we made a sofa fort which Abby called a "base" the whole time. We actually built four sofa forts, but since Abby and Adam kicked each one in after we had hidden from the monsters outside for a good minute and a half, and it was necessary to keep rebuilding, since the monsters never really seemed to get tired of coming back. Finally I convinced Abby that the monsters really were gone (as she was begging me to build the fort for the fifth time) after which decision Abby become a monster. Then she became a ghost. Then she became a zombie and turned me into a zombie and I turned Adam into a zombie, who took his zombie duties very seriously and scratched my face right below the eye with his fingernails.
Then we made hot chocolate with marshamallows, which was pretty delish. Also, I made hamburgers on the griddle on their stove. I was pretty proud of myself, since it was my first time ever making hamburgers, and the fire alarm only went off twice.
After Adam laid down for his nap, Abby and I evaluated our movie choices, and it came down to "Percoles" and "Galaddin." We decided to watch Galaddin, because Abby really didn't want to watch Percoles, even though I did. After Galaddin was over Abby took a bath, we had more hot chocolate, Adam woke up, I thought he was going to die because he just got over the croup and at one point was coughing so hard I thought he wasn't breathing, he recovered and put his coat on with the hood up just because he wanted to, Abby fell asleep on my lap while we watched TV with Noah and Sam, and then I went home.
And now I think I'll make myself a cup of tea and read Ayn Rand. It's been a good day. :)
