  1978

...was a GREAT year!

Happy 30th Birthday, Kevin!

kevinsixweeks

Only 6 weeks old

On Sunday we had the family party at Ken & Willa's.

Dscn6745_sm

A birthday of this significance calls for 2 DQ blizzard cakes:  Reese's and Tin Roof.  YUMMY!!!

It's okay though, we worked out before hand.

Dscn6731_sm

Kevin was kind of a ball hog though.  Since it was his party, we let him.

Dscn6749_sm

A rare moment caught of the Morton siblings getting along long enough for a picture.

(I'm kidding, of course.)

These two don't seem phased at all that their brother is 30 now.

Dscn6747_sm

"Better him than us!"

Moses and Jeff had to set the record straight though.

Dscn6751_sm

"Oh yeah?  Well,I'm going to have a piece of the reeses first!"

Words are just so much fun.

Dscn6733_sm

"Aren't birthday parties the best?"

Dscn6740_sm

"This crayon isn't nearly as tasty as the sidewalk chalk."

She's movin' now!

Some more birthday party guests:

Dscn6753_sm

Lee and his little lady, Tessa.

Funny stuff.

Today, Kevin took his birthday off from work.  Despite the chance of thunderstorms, we headed to the children's farm.  It turned out lovely.

Dscn6762_sm

"That grass is really bright!  I can't even look at it!"

Dscn6770_sm

Moses liked all the structures built for people his size.

Dscn6771_sm

"Are you sure this isn't a Saturday?"

To sum up, Moses got worn out.

Dscn6802_sm

Couldn't even finish lunch.

So, right now, Kevin's building himself a picnic table while Moses supervises.  He's so thoughtful with his birthday and birthday presents.  We all benefit!

"May I?"

(How to Hospitably Handle Hungry, Hippo-hunting Houseguests)

Dscn6720_sm

"Come on in, wild-eyed sir!"

Dscn6721_sm

"I have arrived!  Look out!"

Dscn6685_sm

"Did you come to pick up this letter?"

Dscn6688_sm

"No!  I came to wrangle your hippo!"

Dscn6689_sm

"You don't mind, do you?"

Dscn6692_sm

"Well, I wasn't expecing you, but I'll be glad to pick up some extra sub sandwiches."

Dscn6697_sm

"After all, it's double coupons today."

Dscn6717_sm

"Thanks,  'cuz wranglin' makes me double hungry."

Dscn6698_sm

"You're welcome, brother."

The Last Day of April (Yesterday)

78 degrees calls for some watertable action.

Dscn6632_sm

"Ah, this hits the spot!"

Dscn6637_sm

"Is this really okay to play in?"

Dscn6638_sm

"Mommy's still not stopping me."

Dscn6640_sm

"Ooooo.... feels nice!"

Later, Emerald wanted to explore Moses' new enclosed trampoline from Uncle Sam.

Dscn6642_sm

"Heeeeeeeeeeey, wait a minute!"

She had a good time in it, and I didn't have to worry about her scraping her knees while she crawled around.

Moses didn't lose any time getting to the task at hand.

Dscn6653_sm

"This water must be measured and distributed evenly!"

Later that evening, we headed to the EAST side park.

Dscn6658_sm

"Let's get rollin'!"

The East side certainly lived up to its reputation.  Moses ran into some kids of a violent nature at the park, but he remained calm about the whole thing.  There was an older boy named Neo (I don't care if anybody recognizes his name.) that was waiting for the little boys to show an interest in the "steering wheel" attached to the playground equipment.  Then, when they took the bait, he would shove them aside.  So, Moses would move along only to find at the bottom of the slide was a little boy his age waiting to start slapping his legs.  Moses gave me the most perplexed looks when the little boy did this.  These boys' mothers were chattin' it up about getting out of speeding tickets, so I didn't bother bringing their children's sneaky behavior to their attention.  We just moved along.  We'll be steering clear of that park if we see those boys again.  I've got my eye on the one that's Moses' age though.  I'm guessing they'll probably be in the same grade.  I'm sure 3 years will make a world of difference though.  :)

Nobody picked on this gal, though.

Dscn6659_sm

"This slide is alllll mine."

Before bedtime, Emerald busted out her recent gymnastic maneuvers.

Dscn6665_sm

"It's almost a handstand, Mommy!"

Dscn6668_sm

"I see you!"

Dscn6669_sm

"Ta-DAH!!!!"

the Par-Tay on Satur-Day!

Emerald is so blessed to have such a huge, loving family.

Dscn6462_sm

She got a "learning house" from Grandma and Grandpa Woody.  Several videos of this in action are in the video blog.  This toy is very cool.  Thanks to Bill and Kathy for the recommendation :)

Dscn6464_sm

Uncle Matt and Grandma Morton watch as Moses demonstrates how to use the door.

Moses and Calvin were very approving of all Emerald's presents :)

Dscn6465_sm

I like the doorbell feature the best, I think.  The watertable from Grandma and Grandpa Morton is in the background.  I'm very sure that it will get a lot of mileage this summer. :)

Dscn6468_sm

Moses has the "house" key.

Dscn6478_sm

Moses demonstrates that the watertable can actually serve as a wading pool too.

 Dscn6474_sm

Grandma and Grandpa Morton got Emerald this great tricycle.  This happens to be the same kind of tricycle that Moses covets when he is at Calvin's house.  We've already had some battles.

So many new toys to play with, but we had to move on to the delicious cake and ice cream.

Dscn6482_sm

"Not really sure why Mommy is sticking this lit candle so close to my face and smiling...."

The cake was a big hit with Emerald.  She enjoyed feeling it in her hands before mashing it into her mouth.

And then we gave her some vanilla ice cream.

Dscn6492_sm

"Mommy's giving this to me, so it must be okay to eat."

Dscn6501_sm

"THAT STUFF WAS AMAZING!"

Soon after it was bathtime for the little people.

Dscn6517_sm

Moses was very good at showing anyone who would watch how to play with Emerald's presents.

But sometimes it was hard to find people to watch him.

  Dscn6512_sm Dscn6511_sm

Verity and Candace have always shared a "unique" bond.

Finally, Emerald could let her hair down and relax.

Dscn6510_sm

"Anybody wanna give me some more cake?"

On to Sunday...

Emerald's official 1 year birthday.

Dscn6528_sm

"I make 12 months go by fast!"

 Dscn6524_sm

Moses playing with another of his favorites:  shape sorter cube from Aunt Abby.

Dscn6537_sm

More fun with the house.

But, Emerald doesn't soon forget about her new wheels.

Dscn6549_sm

Just like Moses, Emerald comes up with her own ways to play with toys.

Uncle Sam made sure to get in his Emerald time.

Dscn6523_sm

Awwwwww.....

Dscn6535_sm

Aunt Candace and Emerald consult on accessorizing.

Candace then took some pictures while the kids were runnin' around in the kitchen.

Dscn6562_sm

He looks so much older in this picture.  It almost makes me sad.

We had to take all that energy outside for some basketball.

Moses likes to play "back-it-ball".

 Dscn6565_sm

That's right.  Emerald is already in her pjs.  She's one tired one year old.

Dscn6590_sm

Candace and Moses take a moment to say goodbye while Aunt Verity loads up.

Dscn6597_sm

Uncle Sam gets a kiss from Moses.

Dscn6605_sm

Verity and Moses hug goodbye.

Dscn6595_sm

Uncle Sam and his favorite niece.

Dscn6608_sm

Moses lines up his crew for a final farewell.

Almost ready to go....

Now they can head back to Illinois.

Dscn6613_sm

"One more dunk, Daddy?"

Dscn6612_sm

"Alriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!"

Dscn6624_sm

Me and ma baby girl.

And now we are ready for May, a.k.a. the busiest month of the year.  YES!
