  • I am absolutely terrible about updating here.  I could tell you all the other things I am also neglecting.  It might make you feel better.  It might just make me feel bad.  I'll just say that I got car tags today.  They were supposed to be gotten in June.  My children came for a visit last weekend.  I didn't vacuum before they came.  Feel better?

As one of my dear friends says, All is well.  T. is feeling good these days.  We are both working hard.  Keep praying for our family, please.

I am going to close this out with a few more things that I am thankful for:

    • Matthew chapter 5
    • Shopping with my daughter-in-law
    • scented candles
    • Oswald Chambers, A.W. Tozer and C.S. Lewis
    • sleeveless cotton blouses
    • my husband fixing supper
    • rain
    • praying on the lawn mower
    • fabric softener
    • an approaching 25th wedding anniversary
    • The Holy Spirit, who enables us to *do* Matthew chapter 5

  • I work at a dry cleaners.  It is very hot at a dry cleaners in June in Alabama.  We do not have air conditioning at work.   Once again I realize how very much I love air conditioning.

It isn't too bad...just different.    That is irony, or understatement, or... something.  It is vastly different from the past 22 years of mothering, teaching and wife-ing.  I enjoy it.  And of course, I still have plenty of opportunity to mother and teach and wife.

I truly am not whining (because I hate whining) but I have felt rotten the past couple of days.  I spent a while today thinking of things that made me feel good.  Just odd things.  (Truly!)  In no particular order here are a few of them:

    • Playing games with my family.  We were *almost* all here this past weekend.  We cooked shrimp and grits and played Apples to Apples, Quiddler, and Taboo.  Much fun.

    • The music playlist on my oldest son's myspace page.  Van Morrison, John Prine, Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie plus Todd Agnew and other Christian artists.  The old guys make me smile because I used to put those records on and dance with him when he was a little one.  Now he loves that music, too.

    • The old BBC tv show "Keeping Up Appearances".  Told you there would be odd things here.

    • Praying out loud in the shower in the morning before work.

    • Ice water.  It is truly amazing.

    • Riding the lawn mower.  I know it is insane to work in the heat and then come home and get on the mower, but it really is relaxing...go figure.  I still like to do laundry, too.

    • Knowing that no matter how I feel 'underneath are the everlasting arms.'

For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

    Matthew 7:8

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

    Revelation 3:20

I love this picture of the big door.  It is pretty, isn't it?  Yes, I am in here goofing off on the computer instead of vacuuming, and mopping, and doing laundry.  It will still be there in a little while.  I worked this morning and so did Tommy.

I am getting into a sort of routine with the housework and cooking and such.  If I plan meals and work hard on my off days, it all gets done.  And...if it doesn't get done right then, it gets done without or caught up later.   As I said, we are fairly relaxed around here.
