  • This morning we went to the prison again, so David could preach.

    Except he didn't get to preach....

    The prison is under lock-down because three inmates escaped.

    Yikes.

  • I'm sitting now in our room in Corozal, window open, breeze drifting in...the bay a beautiful site before me.

    My husband is currently preaching on the radio to the whole Corozal area and to some of the Orange Walk area. It's amazing how God can use us if we are only willing. David will then teach the a.m. Bible class and preach the a.m. service today. He's busy!

    I really like it here in Corozal. It's a blessing that we have been able to visit.

    Here are some of my favorite photos as promised:

    There hasn't been very many opportunities for me to take photos due to the overwhelming busy-ness we've had. But, the few we have really capture what we've been doing here, thus far.

    It's been a great time.

    David didn't get to preach yesterday. There was some miscommunication between us and the chaplain at the prison. He canceled the services we were going to have and was very disagreeable about the whole situation. But the good thing is that we were able to meet with Christian, Sanker and Gilbert. These men are all prisoners but have all been won for Christ and are our brothers. It was discouraging that David couldn't preach this week, but next Friday is still a possibility. We are hoping and praying that this week will be different and that he will finally get the chance to preach God's Word to the prisoners here in Belize.

    Today we took a long drive north to Corozal. A beautiful drive along the way. We are now sitting in the hotel with internet access. It's the cheapest price for internet that we've found so far in all of Belize! (That's exciting when you don't get to use the internet very often because it's a forty minute drive to town to have access. And then you can't use it for very long because it costs so much.) And, Margarita...we would use your internet if you guys weren't always gallivanting all around Belize... We came by yesterday and you weren't there.

    This city is really beautiful. We are right next to the sea and close to the Mexican border. It seems that this city has some "Mexican" influence in the architecture. It's a little bit different than anywhere else we've been in the country so far, so we're excited for the next two days of exploring and visiting those who are a part of Christ's body in this part of Belize.

    Maybe I can get some pictures up soon.

  • VBS finished last week on Friday. We had about 190 kids on the last day. It was one of the most challenging tasks, teaching the kids and not having many hands to help out, but it was great that on the last day one of the girls told me that she appreciated all that I was able to teach her.

    This week we've been busy with prison ministry. Tomorrow David will preach at the prison and hopefully make an impact on these people who are caught in a cycle of being in and out of jail. Today we were able to visit an orphange and give some of the children some pencils and papers for them to color and write on. The children were happy to see us, as some of them grabbed our hands and gave us hugs before we left them.

    This weekend we have hopes to travel to a city to the North. Corozal is situated near the Mexican border and has a small congregation that we hope to visit. David may be preaching there on Sunday, but we are still awaiting word to find out whether or not.

    We have just under two weeks left here in Belize. Pray the Lord will continue to use us in the little time we have.

  • Numbers of kids at VBS...

    Monday = 92

    Tuesday = 143

    Wednesday = 137

    Today = Hopefully not too many! There were 21 in my class yesterday... I have one helper... but I'm not used to this many kids at once. It's been too long since I've been involved with VBS or teaching kids, I suppose.

    Just two more days!

    • David preached yesterday in Belize City...he did a wonderful job, too.
    • We had a frog in our room last night and had to chase it out with a broom. I played hockey with the frog as the puck and the broom as the stick.
    • Today begins VBS. I'm teaching the fifth and sixth graders.
    • David is hoping to get to the prison this week to do some outreach there... also he may do some "door-knocking" with some people from Alabama.

    So far so good.

  • We're in Belize.

    We went to see the house that we'll be living in this month.

    We saw a young girl get hit by a car while she was riding her bicycle.

    We went to three grocery stores to get an idea how much the food will cost while we're here.

    And I got to drive around town, which at moments can be quite scary.

    It was a good day.

    Tomorrow will be great as well.

  • I got shot in the hip.

    The doctor decided that I have some sort of infection in my glands and lymph nodes...or something. So, he shot me up with meds. One shot each side. It's painful. Truly....painful.

    My cousin also got married today. I took a few pics over the photographer's shoulder. Sad thing was... the photographer took every single photo in the same exact spot and had everyone stand in the same exact way. So... most of the photos are going to look the same. But, I got like two that were fun and different than the rest. That's good.

    Well...it's been about 21 days since the wedding now, but I wanted to finally put up some of the wedding photos I was able to capture...

    And...here's Jaime... heh. I got her candidly as she went about her photo-taking business. She didn't know that she'd be captured on camera, too! See... even if you are behind the lens all the time, doesn't mean that you'll escape!

      And finally here's my handsome hubby and myself. I'm all decked out in my bride's matron's dress(not that you can see the dress by the photo). ( and bride's matron because I'm no longer a maid!!!)

    Tomorrow we're off to the doctor's and then to ::crosses fingers:: the last wedding we'll be attending for at least another month?

  • Our trip to Baños, Ecuador

     On Monday we had the opportunity to visit the city of Baños, Ecuador. After doing tons of research online I found that this city was supposed to be a fantastic tourist area with beautiful water falls and a few miles from the volcano Tunguarha. While we weren´t really able to see the volcano, we did get to see the water falls and a great deal of the city.

    Yesterday we travelled back to Quito and we were hoping to see more of the city, but I unfortunately have the flu... or something. David´s been an amazing husband, as always... he´s taken very good care of me.
