  • A Note On This Blog's Notes

There are many blogs in cyberspace, and this is but one of them.  Given recent comments & given that this blog is now open to anonymous comments, I feel the need to explain the purposes of this blog.  I have no desire to please everybody or entertain, so I'm sure this blog won't appeal to everyone.

It may not appeal to anyone at all -- if so, I apologize for boring you, but I'm not going to change my blog.

I envisioned this blog as a place for writers, speakers, and even visual artists, to come and debate with me the merits and demerits of various means or techniques of artistic representation.  I'm not blogging to showcase my own talents or even to force my readers to accept my opinions.  Right now, I'm spending all my time on poetry, which, I realize, is not everyone's favorite literary/philosophical topic.  I promise I'll get back to prose, visual arts, and general cultural-literary-arts news.  Eventually.

Regardless of how it may seem, I'm not here to lecture.  If nothing else (i.e. if no one chooses to participate/debate with me), this space is for my own random thoughts about literature -- a diary of literary criticism, or something like that.  I find it useful for my own reasons.  Please leave it at that.  If I argue a position strongly, I'm probably trying to provoke debate, not shape public opinion.

Please don't ask me to post my own poetry every day.

I do write poetry.  Presently, I'm in the midst of writing a series of poems that belong together.  Since I feel they should be read together, I won't publish them separately -- so you won't see them here.  I'm not working on any other poems, so, I have very little to share.  If I write something that doesn't belong in the series, I may post it here, but not necessarily.

If I were going to post my own poetry exclusively, I would anyway do it on a separate blog.  I haven't ruled that out, but, presently, the only other blog I have is also not for poetry.

If you find me commenting upon or criticising your poetry or prose:  Please understand, I'm offering my opinion as a fellow writer, not as a critic.  Try to take my comments as suggestions, not prescriptions.  Usually, I will preface my comments on your blog with, 'I've read your poem & I have a few suggestions based on my reading, which you may or may not find helpful,' or 'I may be misunderstanding the point of your writing,' or 'this is just my opinion, but,.... ' -- or something along those lines.
