  • old friends

I saw an old friend last night, at an old market. Well, when we were kids, there was a safeway and an Albertsons, that was the fancier "store" and thats' where I saw her, in produce. Same long long blonde hair, same birthday as my sisters, same Darla. Except thats she older, just like the rest of us, and finally finally looks older. We met her in 7th grade, ...35 years ago. Shes moved away several times and now she is back, but I don't think for good, she doesn't like the cold weather and she is "weighing her options". It was a long hug and catch up for about twenty minutes, then exchanging of phone numbers. It was SO good to see her!

  • Its a good thing I'm old and mature and don't cry like a baby in public like I want to. I failed my motorcycle school today. I was the last one called out to the hall, out of the twelve of us. Yes, that stinkin kid that just had complex knee surgery 6 weeks ago, he got his. His knee is hurting like crazy right now, so I hope it was worth it to him. Of course he had to walk back into the classroom holding the "I passed this two and half day course in 103 degree weather so all of us could see it" card to take right down to the Oregon DMV tomorrow so he can ride his 700cc scooter to school this fall. It was a hard course and with little practice it was even more difficult, and yet I am so disappointed and sad. Being mature that I am, and I'm not, I really wanted to ride my bike to work tomorrow.

Today was my second day of my motorcycle class, one that my son Aaron highly recommended when I got my 50cc Scooter. My friend Laura has been calling it scooter school for weeks, in anticipation of this weekend, in a not so teasing way. I am NOT riding a scooter in this class. Its hard, to clutch, roll off the throttle, shift, roll on and keep moving without going too slow. And trying to remember it all. "keep the clutch covered",  "back off the throttle". Okay, okay, I'm trying to remember. When we got off the range at 11:15 it was over 100 degrees. However, by the end of tomorrow, I think I will feel much better and more confident about riding my low powered scooter, defensively anyways, in town here, so that is a good thing.

Tomorrow night my sister leaves for her hotel, then heads for home in Kenya. A very good place for her and her family. I will miss her more than I can say.
