So I just wikipedia-ed Northwestern, and I found the following passage on traditions.
I've highlighted the rofl-inducing section. How amazingly coincidencial was this?

Traditions

Painting The Rock is a campus tradition.

At the kick-off of NU football games, students used to throw marshmallows. Northwestern archivist Patrick Quinn says that students were likely "trying to get them into the tubas, and then started throwing them at each other," leading to the tradition of throwing marshmallows at the field. While Gary Barnett was football coach, he banned marshmallows because they supposedly detracted from the serious level of football that he wanted for the school. The tradition of jingling car keys, however, still continues. It began as an arrogant taunt; Big Ten rivals often bested Northwestern at football, and the keys implied "while your school may win the football game, in a few years your school's graduates will be parking Northwestern graduates' cars." "State-school, state-school," another condescending taunt often heard from the student section, turns a nose up at the other institutions of the Big Ten conference, all of which (except for Northwestern) are public universities. Also during football games, students extend their hands in a claw-shape and "growl" during all plays that the other team is on the offensive.

Oh, Northwestern, even though your mascot is a wildcat, I can never escape the bear.

Medical school update:

I'M GOING TO NORTHWESTERN SCHOOL OF MEDICINE!

After 3 days of agonzing deliberation, I've chosen Norwestern over Mt. Sinai. I seriously gave myself an ulcer trying to chose which school to go to. I'm sad I won't be in NYC and as close as all you Brownies, but I'll come visit at least once a year, hopefully once a semester.

to apple or not to apple . . .

So in my four years of med school, where I'm racking up more debt than all the money I've ever seen in my entire life, I'm allocated some pennies to buy my self a little technological sum'in-sum'in, but should I allow myself to be the impulse buyer that I am or actually attempt to show self control?

Here's the sitch: It's only been about a year and a half since my craptastic monster of a laptop *cough-compaq-you-are-the-devil-incarnate-and-must-die-cough* choked up its last sad breath and, through the magic of, who I like to think of as my personal computer guy, mr. mark cho, I was advised to pick up my current IBM T41 baby, whom I love more than my earing collection.

But as everyone knows, I'm a sucker for pretty things and apple's simple, yet elegant, design is as tempting as free legal marijuana to a junkie. Right now, I'm trying hard to resist the mouth-watering temptation of the imac, but its utter hotness is so hard to resist with apple's current deal, which for those of you who are too lazy to click the link is buy a computer, you get a free nano plus a hundred bucks off a new printer.

So I'm thinking, oh my freaking god, that's like manna from the sky. I'm going to skip over the nano entirely and go for the $179 discount on a brand new sexy white 30gb video ipod AND then to top it off like the sweet delicious red cherry on an ice cream sundae I'm also going to get myself a sweet printer-copier-scanner with the $100 rebate.

My parents are like, you do realize if you get this now, you're not getting a new computer for at least 4 years, right?

So the question I pose to you now, do I have the self-control deep down in the depth of my soul to hold off until this deal comes rolling around again in like a year or 2? Do I? Do I really? I'm I the only who can't resist the seductive beauty of the ipod? Tell me what to do!

*EDIT: I changed my background because the awesome Leslie Wong took this kickass picture of me and I HAD to use it somewhere because not only is it a great picture . . . I also look good , so I photoshopped it and boom! new background.*

I know, I know . . .

All I do is advertise dance events on xanga.

But . . .

I just can't help myself.

Here's what is happening MAY 27th!

Yes, all 3 are happening this Saturday.

1. Ballroom Dance Showcase
NOON at TF GREEN 205
Admissions is FREE

This is a short 30 minutes (tops) program featuring some really great ballroom dancing.
I'll be doing two dances, a tango and a rumba, & I've worked really hard on them.
In addition, many of the Brown ballroom team members will be performing pieces they've prepared. I've seen most of the dances and they're all great.

2. Commencement Dance Concert
7:00PM at STUART THEATRE
Admissions: $5 Students, $10 Faculty & Staff, $15 General Public

This features modern pieces choreographed and/or staged by the dance department.
I'm in a really beautiful piece that's second in the program.

3. WATERFIRE BALLROOM SHOWCASE
10PM in front of SOVEREIGN BANK (block over from Kennedy Plaza)

Admissions is FREE

This is a really great event featuring ballroom dancing to a live orchestra on a beautiful outdoor stage with a bar and lots and lots of people.
There is a dance lesson (I think Waltz and Foxtrot) at 7-8pm that's free for everyone, dancing from 8pm-10pm, and then a performance by the Brown team at 10pm.
I'll be doing the same two pieces I'm dancing at noon, the tango and rumba, so if you can't make noon, come to this one.
NOTE: There is a chance that this might be canceled or rescheduled because of the weather.

Spring Break is rapidly coming to a close but I don't have time or energy to comment on that except to say it was great! What I do want to talk about is medical school application. Having just received what is most likely my last acceptance, I decided to look back on my almost one year of applying for medical school. As sad as this sounds, before I applied, I color-coded all the schools I was planning to apply to in terms of what I thought were my chances. I bring that chart to you now along with an update of my current situation. Feel free to comment as you will.

_____=Accepted … Yay! I think they liked me because I do ballroom. It’s crazy how far ballroom dancing will get you in medicine. As if dancing has anything to do with making sick people better. Too late for them. They can’t take it back. Hehehe.

_____=Waitlisted. Crap. So close and yet so ridiculously far. You think once you interview, it’s done. Nope. I still have to kiss their behinds and I might not ever hear from them again OR they might call me the day before classes starts. That makes me sad.

1. They didn’t want me a.k.a. rejected (ouch!)

2. I didn’t want them (I’m just too cool for you!)

3. I was too lazy to finish the secondary application (I’m sorry but the Duke application had SEVEN essays! SEVEN! Only a crazy person would fill out that application.)
