  • No School!

The kids are happy, mom is happy... as I write I can see them sliding down our small hillside.  Not a real big snow..only 3.5 inches, but more than what we have seen in a long time...in fact we just broke in two new sleds that I picked up over a year ago.  There is just something gloriously wonderful about seeing kids out in the snow on a snow day...makes you feel like a kid yourself.  The little gifts in life that make you smile.

  • Picture Day!

Couldn't believe school began and now here it is already school picture day...what wonderful toothless grins!  We picked out our favorite outifits and began the ritual of taming the hair with water, curlers, brushes and combs.  By the time we sit for our picture all the effort we put in this morning will be long retired.  3 Cheers for retakes! Cheese!!

  • Just had an awesome weekend..my dh flew home Saturday, that night had Cinco de Mayo Celebration at church with over a hundred people (most were not from our church).  We have a woman who is Hispanic and is working with a local Hispanic organization in town and she did an excellent job.  The food was awesome (I am forever changed on my own version of mexican cooking!),there was music and dancers and crafts for the kids to do.  We then had a wonderful service Sunday with the Watoto Children's Ministry from Africa.  Those kids were amazing.  It was such a wonderful cultural weekend.  It really made you once again realize how big the "Body" of Christ is and His church.  So cool!

VBS is around the corner..looking forward to the Fiesta!  All of the leaders look to be in place for the most part.  We are praying for 100 children to be ministered to.  I am excited for the fun that the children will have.

  • Been awhile since I have been here...so hard to believe how fast the months go (I know I must be getting old...that's what I remember old people always saying (LOL) )  Anyway, been real busy doing stuff.  I am hoping that the "stuff" is what God wants from me.

Dh will be back and forth from AL the next six weeks transferring to the Air Force.  Today is his big 4-0!  Had a great weekend full of surprises..he said it was his best b.day ever (except for the b.day he asked me to marry him!)  Anyway, it was fun planning it and I am glad it had that affect on him.

Longing already for the lazy days of Summer with the kids...playing in the sprinkler outside, going to the pool, dreaming of all the possible fun to be had...  okay back to reality and the 4 more weeks of homework, practices, and tests...

Got the cruds...can't seem to get rid of it...just keeps hanging on.  What a wonderful topic eh?  I have been downing tea like mad...peppermint and sometimes gingerbread ..a dear friend gave to me for Christmas when I was going through this gingerbread phase in my life.  Isn't it funny how we go through the weirdest phases...my dh is back on the "make a fire every night" phase now that we got the chimney cleaned...it was 50/60 degrees outside and we still had our fire going.  (I do admit it kept the house warmer at night when we slept)  My 2 yr old dd is on a Bibleman phase...she will try to rewind it over and over again or get her older brothers to do it for her.  One of her "phases" that has lasted the longest is her love of shoes, but I don't think that one will ever go away...we may need therapy when she is a teenager (or just a bigger shoe rack!)

  • Christmas in 20 Questions or Less

    1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?   Love Egg Nog, but only for Christmas, don't give it to me any other time of year.

    2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?   Santa never wraps presents.

    3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?  I prefer white.  Just think it looks pretty.
    4. Do you hang mistletoe?  No

    5. When do you put your decorations up?  This year we put our big tree up before Thanksgiving, just because of time and convience for my dh.  I usually then put up the rest here and there as I get to them.... some years I go all out while other years things just don't make it up.

    6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? I don't think I have one dish I prefer, I just enjoy all of it.  I like to make my Grandma's chicken and noodle for Christmas Eve and also my mom's Rice Pudding.

    7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child?  Getting up at the crack of dawn and running down stairs to a room full of presents, it reminded me of a toy store.  We did have 5 kids in my family so everyone's gifts were out.  It was really magical to me.

    8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I don't remember the exact age, but I do know that my mother had a thing..If you didn't believe no presents...so we all "said" we believed...even to this day.

    9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? We open a couple of gifts Christmas Eve. I usually let my kids open their new pjs, the books I got them, and their new ornaments.

    10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him?  Whatever cookies are in the house.

    11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? Love it, Love it, Love it!  Bring it on...Bing Crosby and I are always Dreaming of A White Christmas.

    12. Can you ice skate?  Haven't in a long time...we use to be able to skate sometimes right on our street as a girl in Iowa.

    13. Do you remember your favorite gift?  I don't know what that would be...maybe the big Barbie House I got when I was a little girl.

    14. What is the most important thing about the Holidays for you?  Spending time with family and seeing my kids enjoy it.

    15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Cookies

    16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Christmas Eve-Getting the kids all dressed in their new PJs and giving them their candles (battery of coarse) and walking around the house in the dark (except for the Christmas lights and decorations) singing Silent Night.  We then proceed each with their candle and their own handmade manger with baby Jesus to their beds.  They get to keep their candles on and mangers next to their beds to remember that Jesus came to be our light.

    17. What tops your tree? An angel on our big tree, and a bright star on the kids tree.

    18. Which do you prefer Giving or Receiving?  I enjoy giving.  I love picking out that perfect gift that will really mean something to them.

    19. What is your favorite Christmas Carol?  White Christmas- don't know if it is in the Carol category, but none-the-less, it wouldn't be Christmas for me without it.  Also, have to hear Andy Williams version of Most Wonderful Time of the Year-mom always had that playing growing up.

    20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum? Yum, especially the ones that melt in your mouth like wedding mints.

  • Well, Christmas is almost here...I am sooo glad today is the kids last day of school.  We are all so tired...kids have gone to bed around 10pm for the last 6 nights with something every night to be at.  I know they are exausted... so hard for them to get up in the mornings lately.  My 6 yr old dd said this morning she can't wait for tomorrow to be able to sleep whenever she wanted.  When a 6 yr old says this you know we have been running too hard.

Anyway..I pray we stop and breathe...remembering the special quiet that this precious baby in a manger brings in our lives...this silent night...this wonderful peace.

God Bless us all as we find that reflective, abiding place that our Savior brings not only at Christmas, but everyday.

Watching my friends pom. puppy this week.  Cute little fur ball.  My kids are all over it and loving on it.  Poor thing doesn't know what to do!  It should be interesting tonight as it yip-yip-yips in its cage.  I think it will be a good thing for my dh though as he thinks it would be just adorable for us to have a puppy...however I would be the one doing everything!  So I am hoping his fantasy will be subdued after this.  We shall see..

Procrastinating today...really need to get on the laundry that piled up over the weekend when I was gone.  The never ending laundry!  If  I don't get to at least a load a day, I am backed up for several.  I have visions dancing in my head of some day having all the laundry complete and everything put back where it belongs...ahh!  Oh sorry, I just wanted to imagine for a little while.

Here's to laundry and really the blessing it is to have laundry to do!
