Wearing Dresses & Skirts - Day Four (Sunday)

Day Four!

Sunday!  I love Sundays!  Sunday used to be just like Saturday for us for so long.  We had searched high and low for a church when we were in Florida.  Reading back through some of my older posts you will understand our desires and how our search came up fruitless.  I won't go into why but I can tell you the church we have found has been such a blessing!  I had prayed for God to help us find a church...a place would could plant our roots in deeply and be fed.  He answered but we had no idea that it would be about 700 miles north of where we were living!

Thank You Lord for answering our prayers!

After we arrive home from church, which takes us all of about 2 minutes for the church is right next door to us, I start preparing for our Sunday Dinner...

(Ham, cornbread and apple sauce)

Mac-n-cheese and green beans - salad is to the side)

I really enjoy making a nice Sunday Dinner for my family.  I didn't use to.  Matter of fact...it use to be that everyone had to fend for themselves a few years ago.  Weekends was basically grab your own or cold cereal.  I was too busy doing I'm not sure what and the sad part is I can't even remember what it was that was so important that I couldn't take the time to make a decent meal for my family.  I do remember how I grumbled at having to stop what I was doing to make dinner...sad but true.  It took a very serious wake up call to get my attention.  I thank God for that call He made and so very thankful He put the passion back into my heart for my husband, children and home.

(I think it was a hit!)

David's favorite part of the whole meal...dessert!  Pudding...it is so very simple to make...effortless actually but well worth it when my family loves that little extra something.

Notice Blaine eyeing David's pudding!

We all have a different way of eating our pudding.  Blaine starts in the center, David scrapes the top off of his, Sarah works around the edges and I start from one side and work my way to the other.  Why do I include this?  Because if we only took the time to notice these little things they then can become precious memories later on.  It's taking that time with your loved ones that counts.  Something I regret not doing with my oldest.  I do hope and pray that we all take the time...time to notice those sweet and precious little things.

After our big lunch/dinner everyone helped clean up the dishes and we spent the afternoon resting.  Blaine took a very long and much needed nap.  He worked hard all day Saturday painting the kitchen and after having two servings of dinner - a nap was definitely in order!

Evening Routine

Every evening just before going to bed I do what I call the 20 Minute Tidy...

The 20 Minute Tidy

Sunday February 5, 2006
9:00 pm - 10:00 pm
This event repeats every day.

Event Location: All Areas of the House
Notes:
Before heading off to bed...take 20!

Spend 20 minutes going through your home and picking up a bit here and there. There is nothing worse than waking up in the morning and facing a dirty house. I love to walk through to the kitchen knowing that the only thing I need to do is turn on the coffee pot! :O)

(Posted on the calendar in the Making It Home Yahoo Encouragement and Support Group)

Taking 20 minutes to go around my home and tidy up but also prepare for the next day's tasks helps me so much.  I don't know about you but I hate waking up to a messy house and knowing that there is a mess waiting for me - even before I have had my coffee - not condusive to a happy morning!  I have learned from the past that doing the pick up beforehand makes waking up much more pleasant!

(Collecting the kitchen rugs and washing - one thing on my list of monthly tasks I do)

I also include in my evening ritual  turning down the beds for everyone and close the blinds around the house.  This gets my body geared to rest...that I can actually stop and relax because everything has been done and is in it's place ready for the next day.  I also have the children do this 20 Minute Tidy as well.  This gets them into the habit of picking their things up and putting them away.

All of this in a skirt even!  It can be done.  I find that I work differently in my skirt in that I tend to take my time.  I'm not in a hurry but slow down the pace and allow myself to putz if you will about my home.  I guess putzing would be the opposite of rushing about.  I remember my mother saying, "Haste makes waste."  Instead of hastily rushing about I can take my time...lovingly and with much care attend to my home. You know... Putzing!  Did I explain that very well?  Maybe that just makes sense to me - I don't know.  I just can't see flying about here and there and only doing a half-way job.

Here is another wonderful link.  This is another site I have gone to time and time again and was actually the first site I found in my researching modest dressing.  This site is packed with articles and links.

 Mom of 9's Place

Some have asked about the canisters I have in my kitchen...

I found them at Wal-mart and Target.  The large ones are $12, medium $6 and the small one is $4.  I love the fact that they are wide enough that I can get my measuring cups in and out without spilling everything trying to get the cup out!

Vacuum Cleaner...

The big one, or the one I use for the carpets is the bagless Dirt Devil Jaguar.  This works great on bare floors as well.  The smaller one is also a bagless Dirt Devil...I believe it is a Quick Power.  This one has to be plugged in to recharge but is wonderful for quick pick ups.  With two puppies running about the house...this is necessary!

Day Three Outfit...

I picked up at Good Will.  The skirt is a Tommy Hilfiger.  The sweater I have had for years and I believe I bought that at Ross.

Today's Outfit...

Both the skirt and sweater I picked up on sale at a store called Christopher & Banks.  The skirt was $4 and the sweater was $6.  Knowing that I can pick up items on sale like this makes me really rethink about purchasing items that are not on sale.  If you wait long enough...it will make it to the clearance rack!

Dish set...

I picked up the four place setting (5 pieces for each setting) at Ross for $20.  Ross is a wonderful place to find name brands for less but they have a wonderful selection of home goods as well...my favorite store to find decorating items for my home.  I don't think we have a Ross anywhere close to us...maybe that is a good thing!  <winking>

Tomorrow...

House Blessing and Detailing the Master Bedroom!

Love to you all!

Hello, Cat!

I've not dropped by for about a week as I have been rather busy.

Sunday at your home looks beautiful - thank you for sharing the photos. It is beautiful to see.  I like the idea of turning down everyone's beds for the evening. I will have to start doing that. :)

Thank you for the time you take to update here and to encourage us all.

Love, hugs & God bless,
Veronica

Catherine:

I have been enjoying your week of skirts more than I anticipated. This pictures are just wonderful.

It also helps to know that there was a time you all fended for yourselves food wise on the weekends. We were in that stage while the kids were working, in college and all that. So much was going on with them it was hard to gather.

Now, with a married daughter who has to small ones, and a 19.5 year old son living on his own since November, we GREATLY enjoy our Sunday dinners after church. We used to have them on Monday nights (for two years) but had to start on Sunday when my husband went into business for himself.

God bless you.

these posts have been very encouraging to me! I want to do what you do, if I ever get married, but I don't really know anyone else dresses-only, or anyone who just loves to be "just a homemaker"

Thanks for the encouragement!

Thanks for all the encouragement you give by simply just living your life for Christ.  Your site is very much a blessing to me.

You're adorable and I love the skirts.  I'm a skirt person by nature and you've inspired me to find some at the Goodwill store near my home.  I need some replacements

Dear Cat,

Thank you for posting your home and life for all to see.  You are truly an encouragement to me.  I absolutely adore your site and just LOVE the music.  The neatness of my home looks very similar to yours and I know it takes more mental energy than physical energy to keep it up but soon after a while it becomes a habit.  Thank you for being vulnerable so we can all be inspired.

I really like your site (I found it on Candy's)  I had a suggestion since you like pretty things....instead of having the dishwashing bottle on my counter I bought an inexpensive glass olive-oil dispenser to keep my dishsoap in...that way it looks pretty out on my counter.  Just an idea.

Thanks!  ~Mrs. B.~~

Hi! I just found your website and love it! I have been wearing skirts and dresses exclusively for years.  I feel so much better about myself when I dress better.  As you mentioned in this post, Christopher and Banks is an AWESOME place to find modest and feminine apparel.  Most of my wardrobe is from this store with all of the skirts purchased at or below $4 each.  You look great and are an inspiration to me!
