Heart Sachets

Captured 2008-2-5 00031

I love simple easy sewing projects that can be completed in a fair amount of time.  Here is one hopefully just in time for a Valentine's Day gift to make and give away!

I came across this simple sewing project on Martha Stewart's site called Lavender Sachets and you may find that she has better instructions than mine.  I used her instructions as a guideline and simplified the sewing part a bit.  Instead of having to sew the fabric on the right sides then turning the fabric inside out, filling and then hand stitching the opening closed...well you will see what I did below.

Here Are A Few Things You Will Need...

Scissors (fabric and paper), material with coordinating ribbon and thread and a pen or pencil.

...along with your favorite smelling potpourri.  I used lavender, which is my favorite, to make these heart sachets.

To Make The Pattern...

I used an 8 1/2" x 11" paper and folded it in half.  I drew a heart by hand which I sometimes think turns out better than a perfect one!  I love the ones shown on Martha's site and add so much to the "look" of the sachet.  Cut your pattern out and you have a beautiful heart

Place your folded pattern on the folded part of your material and trace using a chalk pencil.  Here I have used a nifty marker that disappears after a few minutes.

Cut out your pattern using pinking shears...

...and sew your two pieces together (1/4" seam & wrong sides facing together) being sure to leave an opening.  I started sewing at the bottom of the heart and stopped about 2 1/2" from the bottom.

This should give you plenty of space to fill your hearts with the lavender...

I found the spoon to be easier and faster...

After you have your heart filled, sew up the opening and you are ready to add your ribbon.  Cut ribbon to about 16" long...

Fold ribbon in half and tie a knot about 3" inches from the top...

Sew your ribbon onto the heart...

It was just that simple!  I was able to make 12 of these within an hour or so and know just who I am passing these along to!

Do have fun making these!

Love and God's Blessings To You All,

Mrs. Catherine

P.S.  Did y'all see what Blaine posted on his blog today?!  He Said:  Doing Laundry.  Now...y'all know I must respond to this don't you?!  Be sure to leave him a word or two!!

I love the heart idea.  It looks great!  But about Blaine.....he's kidding......right?  He was just bored.....right?  Because I know, well I assume, from having read your blog for a few years that he can be quite the kidder.

Now, let me naive for a moment, and please tell me that he did not do this to your laundry?  I could see my hubby doing this......this is why I ask.  And I can imagine myself just staring at the laundry basket with all nine loads crammed into it with my mouth hanging open, utterly speechless.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

How simple! I like simple.  Lent has started and what a great way to add to our home, but beautiful little hearts hung on doors to remind us of God's love for us that He gave His only begotten Son.   Thanks for the craft idea.

God's peace,

Dee

Yesterday my daughter and I made a bakers dozen of these sweet and simple hearts. Then we took a a basketful and hand delivered them to Grandmas, aunts, cousins and friends. Thanks for the idea!
