| Busy, Busy!!Many appologies for not keeping this up-to-date! My mother is preparing for surgery this Thursday, and so I've been pretty busy helping her out. She is having to go through a preop diet for ten days before the surgery, and it's an extremely difficult diet to follow. She is doing well! We're all anxious to get past the surgery, that's for sure!
My stepdad has been able to take a long leave from deployment to be home, and we're so excited he's home! Not much of a vacation, but it's still nice to get to spend time with him. He was able to meet his newest grandson, and he's really been waiting for that. Naturally, we don't have a whole lot of extras planned, we're all drawing together to support Mom. She really needed him home, too.

I love this dress from Shooting Star History. I would like to use it as inspiration for a dress for my reenacting. I haven't been able to get out to the museum like I was wanting to, but it's been difficult trying to get everything in order! I am wanting to make some clothes for my stepson so that he can come out, also.

| Nursing Clothes on a BudgetI have a two month old nursling, and one thing I've found is that it is very difficult to find nursing clothing items at a low price. Those that I do find that are cheap, are usually poorly made. So, I've been doing some searching and thought I'd share what I have found so far.
First off, check out sales and clearances at reputable maternity/nursing clothes stores. I don't depend on this too much, myself, though. I am not able to go out and shopping very often, as having three very small children (oldest is only 3 yrs old) makes me a busy mama!
I do sew, so I've been checking out patterns. Elizabeth Lee Designs is a popular, well-known brand, but I must admit, I find them a bit dated. I know that they could be updated probably fairly easy, but I just don't have a wide imagination for that right now. I need to be able to just follow the pattern. Several ladies do use these patterns, so I wanted to mention them as seemingly tried-and-true.
I have found another online source for nursing patterns, Blessed Designs. I have ordered the Crop Layer Nursing Shirt, as it is exactly what kind of shirt I've been wanting. I feel the pattern was reasonably priced, and am looking forward to getting it and trying it out .
For those who would like some free patterns, Micki's Pages has a nice assortment of links. I have also found instructions on how to convert a regular bra into a nursing bra. I am definitely going to try this one!
Nursing is such an important thing to do for your baby. The problem I face is that I just can't afford nice nursing wear, and so I have a hard time even leaving the house. I am looking forward to making some of my own clothes, so that I can feed my baby modestly

| Laughing Babies!!My baby has started laughing!! I love these milestones I tried to get some really good pictures, but it's very hard to hold and focus a camera while also getting the baby to laugh, heehee. Well, another very pretty day here in Kansas. I saw some geese flying overhead when I went downstairs to start the laundry! I ran in and got the boys, and explained that Spring was officially here, the geese are back! The nursing home where I used to work would always really attract a lot. Goose droppings everywhere, yuck! Today I am going to see my midwife. I can't believe it's already time for that checkup. Luke will be going in for his 2 month check next week! Very hard to believe, it seems like just yesterday... | | |
| Having DH HomeWow, it's very hard for me to change my routines, I've found. Hard to be flexible. DH has been home this past week, and has this coming week off, also. Why is it hard for me to work when he's home? I am not able to answer this, but wish I could!
My home is a wreck. I'm starting to feel ill about it. So much hard work, and I have just plain ignored it! I feel like I must be just easily distracted or something.
On a brighter note, we've had a very nice weekend. The family readiness group for my DH's National Guard unit had a pancake feed on Saturday. I have not met anyone from the FRG and it's been frustrating because I have a lot of experience with this from when my mom was the leader for my stepdad's group. Our leader has just recently taken over, and is feeling a little overwhelmed, but she seems like the kind of person who can take charge. My mother is a teacher for AFTB, and they talked about holding classes for the volunteers. Next Sunday is the next FRG meeting, so I'm planning on being there.
Today, DH took all of us to the library. We found quite a few neat looking books, along with some other materials which is new. They have these tubs with different themes. They have books and different items related to that particular theme in them. You can check these out! They had one for ABC's and colors that I think we'll try and check out next time. I wish I'd known about them before the baby, they had one for welcoming a new baby! I also saw one for grief/death which I thought was interesting...
After a rainy yesterday, today was just beautiful, so the boys played outside. We all felt good about having some fresh air. I don't like being cooped up inside all day long. I also got the front and back doors and porches swept off, since I couldn't do that yesterday.
Everything's so green! I can't wait to get some flowers and potted herbs to put out! I'm also going to look for a nice cheery welcome mat.

| Getting Out and AboutIt seems there is a whole list of things you never really think too much about when you have a new baby. Here's one for us: the logistics of going anywhere! You can't imagine how difficult it is to figure out how to get three carseats crammed in the backseat of a vehicle. Why in the world do they make carseats to take up so much space?!
Well, I have found that in my state, you can have a seat in the front seat, when there is no passenger-side airbag and no room in the back. Now, I don't like the idea of just putting my kids up front. But, I desperately need to go to the store and since I basically have no husband to help during the week (he is gone from 6:15 am till 10 pm) and haven't been able to find a babysitter, I guess I need to just take a deep breath...Luckily, the grocery store is only a couple of blocks away, and I can take back roads to get there.
Today is my mama's birthday!! My brother and I are going to bring her a cake. She told my grandma that she can't remember when she last had a birthday cake (passive guilt-trip <lol>) so I got a really pretty one for her. I know I could have baked one, but with three kids running around, I can't seem to do a good job with baking/cooking.
It's a beautiful day here in South Central Kansas, time to go out and enjoy it!
