Current mood: morose. Don't ask me why, though...

We've got the new uniforms at work, now... it takes a bit of getting used to- going to work in shorts, putting on a skirt once there and everything. The skirts are fine, by the way. I actually kinda like the way they swish around your legs as you move. They're supposed to hit about mid-calf; but of course the company did what all companies do- to save time and money and hassle, they ordered all the skirts the same LENGTH no matter the SIZE. Which means that I wear a large and if I don't sit the waist of the skirt somewhere around my hip-bones, it hits at about knee-height, maybe a little lower. Even with wearing it lower, it only hits at the top of the calf on me. Ah well... I never have found a floor length skirt that was actually floor length on me (it doesn't help that my height is mostly in my legs). Fortunately the new shirts are longer, and I just don't tuck mine in. I really wonder sometimes when the clothing manufacturers are going to start pushing legislation to standardize sizes through genetics. /sarcasm

The shoes I got are okay- not nearly as comfortable as the Dr. Scholls sneakers I WAS wearing, but my feet are getting used to them. Yesterday was the first day I wore them and my feet hated me by the end of my four hours. Today, they didn't really start hurting until the 5th hour. We'll see how tomorrow goes, although I run tomorrow morning and that might make my feet swell later on (improved circulation and all that- I drink plenty of water, believe me!). They really are cute shoes, though. :)

I want something cute and furry which likes me and lets me pet it. But that is old news. Our circumstances have not changed. Sigh.

We watched the fireworks show from the end of our dock. The same dock that is never used (except for fireworks watching) because we have no boat, and no friends with boats! Ah, well... it made a nice vantage point. It was a great display and lasted for quite a while- far longer than I thought it would. Hubby told me that tomorrow they'll probably have some satellite images of the various displays tonight... I think I'll look those up tomorrow, see how it all pans out across the nation.

I've been doing the running thing three days a week for about a month and a half now, and I can definitely see results! In the first two weeks, I noticed my legs getting much more toned and the muscle building up. Then I started noticing that my breathing was easier, and I could actually hold up my end of a conversation while jogging! Then last Monday, we jogged nearly the whole mile and a half! Woo-hoo! (for some reason I always have more energy on Mondays as opposed to the other two days a week that we run...) But today, my legs just didn't feel like going. In fact, *I* didn't much feel like going. It was like fighting myself to run, but I did- for most of it. About halfway through, though, my legs just said, "Nuh-uh. That's it. You're going to stop now." It was kinda frustrating, because there really was no reason to stop- I wasn't out of breath, my legs weren't cramping, they just wouldn't *go* anymore. Arg. Oh well, I'll make up for it on Monday. :D

I've been discovering that- much as I HATE writing outlines of any sort, not being the most organized of people- it really does help to actually *plan* where a story is going. To know your character's personalities BEFORE they appear on the scene, because that will affect the plot of the story and where it goes from that point. As characters interact with each other sometimes the storyline changes, so it's good to know where you want it to go, so you can orchestrate their meetings in the best possible way. Sigh. But it's not as fun as actually writing, even if I see the need for it. (grumble, mutter) And it really does help...

Tomorrow is the Fourth of July. America's birthday. I forget which one. She's well over 200 now, though, so I guess it doesn't really matter until 2076 when she will turn 300.

On America's birthday, I will be working till five p.m. After that, I have no plans!... Except maybe to make arrangements to be somewhere where I can actually see the fireworks show. That's something I miss about Texas... we used to go a couple miles outside the city limits and watch the fireworks from there, because it was less crowded and you had just as good a view. Dad would make a bunch of popcorn and portion it out into three paper grocery bags and we'd take cans of Coke or Dr. Pepper (bleagh!) and have a grand old time sitting on the roof of the van and watching fireworks. Ah, memories...

We've got soft-serve ice cream at work now, instead of the ice cream we used to have. We got the machine yesterday. It's proving to be quite complicated. No one really knows when to make up a new batch so we don't run out, and we've all got to learn 'recipes' for various things, and we don't have a good chocolate syrup to make chocolate flavored ice cream out of yet. So, yeah... work is interesting right now.

My power cord is working again- turns out the connection part of it just needed to be cleaned. There was too much gunk in there so it wasn't make good contacts.

Hmmm. Not really much else to say right now...

I think the only proper response for a day like today is to go to bed and hope tomorrow is better. Stupid birthday.

Why do I feel this way, you ask? Well, you see, things didn't exactly go according to plan. To begin with, hubby and I tried to go to the beach yesterday- a nice beach that's part of a State Park, in fact, it's an island that's a state park. There's only one problem with this plan (well, two actually): they only allow a certain number of people on the island at one time, on weekends they tend to fill up quite early in the day, and we live an hour's drive away. We left too late to begin with, but then we hit a bad accident on the two lane road leading there and had to detour for another half hour. So we get there only to find we have to turn right around and go back home. Ok, not that big a deal, we'll just go today, right? Only I wanted to go to church this morning and leave right after- which we did. We ended up getting there RIGHT after they reached the limit. *Sigh* Turn around and drive back. We'd planned on being there all afternoon and not going to evening services, but now we're at loose ends. We decide to go see Iron Man. There's two showings: one at four and one at six. Church starts at six. We go to the six o'clock showing. Now I'm feeling guilty, and since I'm not an Iron Man fan, it's an ok movie, but not really one to miss church for. Next up, we stop by the local shopping center to pick up food for hubby, and I go to replenish some groceries. I have a limited amount of cash, and I give some to hubby to let him pay for his food, planning on using the debit for the groceries. Only problem: I don't have my card. I have my checkbook, but I don't have my driver's license (because it's in the same case as my card), so they won't take my check. I halve the groceries I was going to get and pay with my remaining cash. Get home, begin frenzied search for card case. Can't find it in the house (I swear, I put it back in my purse!). Check the car- it's in the floor of the passenger side- thank God. Hubby eats supper and I eat an apple- I'm not really that hungry. I get on the computer. About fifteen minutes later I notice the light on my power cord is not on, even though it's plugged into my computer and the socket. Twist the cord a little, and the light comes back on briefly, but as soon as I let go it goes out again. Darn it! Stupid cord... now I'll have to replace it.

I have to admit- those long ago days when I used to spend my entire birthday in the car because of being on road trips have got this birthday beat all over.

I'm going to bed.

EDIT: I did get to talk to my sister, though, and that was nice. We're going to try for the island again tomorrow- we plan to be there quite early, so if it falls through AGAIN, at least we can still go to A beach, even if not the one we were hoping for, because there will still be a respectable amount of time left in the day.

Hubby's Birthday was yesterday... I saved up and gave him a new home theatre system (DVD/Tuner + 7 speakers). It's really nice. He liked it. He's planning to get some speaker wire, so that we can truly have "surround sound." In addition, there was a video rental store going out of business and selling their movies off for CHEAP, so I got a bunch: two for me (chick-flicks), three for US, and five for him (which I kept a secret until yesterday. hee hee). And a package of Little Debbie Fudge Rounds (he really likes them and almost never eats them). So, all in all, I think I did a pretty good job! Tomorrow we're planning to spend most of the day at Bear Island- a national park island that's got 'facilities' and pretty much nothing else. I hope we can find a fairly deserted section of beach just for us... and then I have four lessons to teach tomorrow evening (yay!). So it's been kinda busy around here lately.

At some point I will sit down and actually organize the various thoughts running around in my head into a comprehensible post, but until then...
