NASCAR Racing: Reasons why it's a bad idea

It's a terrible waste of petroleum based oil products, steel, rubber, and anything and everything else used to build, modify, and service hundreds of racecars a year.

It adds to the already serious problem of harmful gas emissions. Millions of cars are already on the road in the US, devouring gasoline. The world doesn't need forty or fifty more to drive a few hundred miles around a loop track.

It appeals to a very specific demographic. NASCAR isn't for everyone, and I think it's safe to say that it's only really popular in the Midwest and South. Which brings me to my next reason.

It's polarizing. Like religion. Or the abortion issue. The entire concept of driving formula racecars around a smooth, asphalt path is completely asinine. And yet, this so called sport has been as powerful as the evangelical Christians and the pro life movement in unifying American conservatives.

It’s stupid. The entire strategy involves staying alert for three hours and driving around a circular loop five hundred times. Give or take a hundred, depending on the race event. I can't understand why anyone would want to be behind the driver's seat, much less sitting in the crowd.

Anyway, I digress. Anyone else hate NASCAR?

La la la la la. Hm. I'm not sure how much exposure this page is getting. Does anyone want to do anything?

Anyway, thought I might bring up a few points that I may have raised before, but have come to the surface again.

Applause after a movie:

It makes no sense. What you or I see on the projection screen is not a live rendition of said movie, but a recording. Granted, it's high quality, and widescreen, but that still doesn't take away from the fact that it's a copy. And that there are thousands of other copies being played in thousands of other theatres.

So what are we clapping for? It can't possibly be the actors, production team, and everyone else involved in making the movie. They don't hear the applause, and so, they probably don't care about any accolade given to them in a theatre.

What you (Because I refrain from doing this) are effectively doing is applauding the effort of the movie projectionist. For those of you who don't know what a movie projectionist is or does, he or she takes a movie reel, secures it to a movie projector, and then hits play at a particular time of the day. A couple of times a day.

Now, while this man or woman's efforts to provide the most pleasant movie experience are commendable, the actual work he performs is definitely not. He or she is performing a repetitive, menial task. We, as a society, tend to applaud those who do new, interesting, bold, daring, intrepid things. That standard should hold everywhere, at all times - Particularly, in this case, at the end of a movie.

If you disagree, you're very welcome to reply back with an argument in the comment space below. But please submit GOOD arguments. INTERESTING arguments. THOUGHT PROVOKING arguments.

With high school finally coming to an end, and the transition summer coming to a dawn, I thought I might throw a few ideas out for events, get togethers. You know. Stuff. Stuff that we (Referring to the few who do look at this page periodically, and most who don't) couldn't do before, because of legal age, resources, or a variety of other things. Anyway, below are just a couple of ideas. Since I can't remove the eProps without also removing the comments, I'll just say that commenting is what matters here. If you'd like to do any of these, post up.

Six Flags in NJ. This requires a car. And someone who can legally drive.

Rollerblading in Central Park.

Rollerblading in the late evening. Particularly down the bike path of the West Side Highway. Long story short, I've gotten requests for it. Sounds interesting.

The usual. Movies. Bowling. Arcade. Ice skating (Sounds a bit odd to me, though). Handball!

NY Botanical Garden.

Coney Island.

Comedy club.

Poetry club.

Drinking/partying club.

Anyway, so that's everything I could think of in 5 minutes. Any other ideas?

Okay, so I have a couple of ideas.

Keep a running log of all the serious handball games I play. Not that I'm any good.

Talk about video games!...No.

Hi everyone, major overhaul coming up. I haven't touched this thing in almost a year, and that was just for about a week.

Fresh new things coming up. No more dark, moody, melodramatic posts. Well, not for another two weeks.
