How to make the (almost) perfect pumpkin

Ever since I've moved to San Francisco from Queens, NY, I've been carving pumpkins every Halloween. My very first pumpkin I carved 3 yrs ago has been the most eleborate since. It was a haunted house with swinging doors, shutters and intricate etched detail - Martha Stewart Living was my inspiration! I was really satisfied with how it turned out so I placed it on our doorstep that same evening. The next morning, the Pumpkin Thief had taken my precious pumpkin! Where was it?? I searched and searched and lo and behold those EVIL NEIGHBORS had snatched it and placed it on THEIR doorstep! WTH?? So of course I took it back. The next morning, it was on her doorstep AGAIN! This went on for at least 3 days. After a while they didn't take it but I was still furious. So after a week had passed, my poor pumpkin began shriveling with mold attacking the inside. Poor pretty pumpkin I thought... but a mischievous thought ran across my mind. That evening when nobody was looking, I gingerly placed it on their doorstep. teee hee hee! The next morning it was back to our side. This went on for a few days until they threw it out for me. Ahh haaa! Before we sold that house, I gave them a piece of my mind! A cat fight, you ask? More like a fat old cat and a kitty.
(I'm the kitty).

This year I thought I'd carve Mr. Frankenstein. It took 1.5 hrs. Half the time it took with the haunted house but it's not too bad.

Ok, it's not perfect but not bad, eh?

I'm attending a wedding in November. How exciting - for me. If you think about it, the similarities of planning your own wedding and attending one are striking.

My view on weddings is like attending the Emmys or walking the red carpet for the rest of us commoners. It's the place to see and BE SEEN. I really did enjoy the last wedding I attended. I relished the attention and rave reviews I received on my dress from friends and strangers. Strutting around in my chocolate shimmery knee length dress that I bought on impulse over a year ago, I really was a star! Well, besides the bride.

So here's my to do list and following it is my vision:

  • get an awesome kickass manicure/pedicure
  • wear a it's-so-cute-I'm-going-blind dress
  • strut around in some gold heels
  • don some lushy lashes
  • be 99lbs! I dare publicize goal weight!

Sooo anyways, here are some pix from my labor day weekend. It was also our 1st anniversary. We stayed at  the Mount View Spa Hotel in Calistoga and did a couples mud bath session. It wasn't like the traditional mud bath, they called it "European Mud Bath" where they mix some volcanic ash and mud (supposed to be good for your skin) in a jacuzzi filled with water that's infused with a jasmine scent. It was a bit too hot for me. Although I did as I was instructed, not to eat 2 hours before and after, guess what happened! After I ate my yummy dinner I had the most wretched stomach cramps! I've experienced a lot of weird stomach aches over the years but this didn't feel like anything familiar. Besides the pangs, my skin was sooo smooth for days. I went to a nearby gift shop and bought some ash and mud to try at home. =P Anyway, back to the story, so after being lost for over an hour trying to find River Rock Casino, we discovered that they didn't have my favorite game - Roulette. What's a casino without Roulette!?? I needed my gambling fix. Oh well, it's okay because I'm learning how to play Mahjong! Yay it's so addictingg. Thank you Justin for teaching mee!

Petrified Forest: That tree stump actually turned to "stone!" ... and I look quite stoned myself

Old Faithful: This kid almost went to touch the spout until security stopped him. It was hard for me to enjoy the "show" with that lady's skirt in my view. Bunched up denim on the butt? ICK!

I don't know where I staring off to.. my brows look unkempt >:(

We thought we were being so cool and active when we strapped our bikes on my red Jet. It's so funny because we never cycled... Nevermind that! We looked cool on the road!

The feeling of adequacy

Hello fans who have left me, I am here again but only for a short moment. Has my self-delusion set in deep enough? No, not really.

All has been well. Yes, I'm still married. No, I'm not pregnant. Although I do feel a little more.. uh.. well, dare I say this dreadful word, "mature" ICK! *Barf* *Faint* Now I only say this because some of my actions lead me to believe this odd phenomenon. Last Friday, Luke and I spent the evening at our usual hang out place, Borders. Hey, stop snickering. You get to relax at the adjoining cafe and read books for free! We weren't the only couples there. We saw plenty of (Asian) couples doing the same thing. Okay just three.

Anyways, back to the story. I grabbed a few books and went on to the magazine racks. While I was browsing through different categories, I stopped at the Women's Interest section. It must be years since I seriously read through one of those beauty/fashion mags so I picked up a few and thought maybe I can get some ideas on how to make myself more vain than I already am. Of course Luke wasn't excited to see me with them, saying they were evil agents of the fashion and beauty industry. Okay he didn't exactly say that but I didn't disagree.

It only took a few minutes for me to go through them and I thought, how liberating! I no longer need to consult with these "experts" because:
1. I can never justify buying a $300 shirt/skirt/pants/purse
2. I don't care to read biographies of celebrities, it must be so hard being a millionaire
3. I know how to lose 5lbs in a blink of an eye, and you do too. How many articles does it take to figure out Diet Coke is baddd
4. With 10+ years of experience in applying makeup on myself, I think I know how to:
    a. Curl my lashes without the stinging and blinding effect afterwards
    b. Draw curvy lines, not straight lines, around my lips. The boxed lip was not flying
    c. Make my skin appear, uh, better than when I wake up
    d. Give me the warm, tingly, cozy feeling of adequecy *sigh*

You know what I find useful? Looking at women putting on their makeup during the morning commute. Some of the before and after transformations are wonders! What's also useful are friends' and coworkers' recommendations. That is, assuming they're not saying anything like applying vinegar is great after exfoliating and vigorously scrubbing your face dry of any moisture.

P.S. - That's not me

IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE

Hi guys, sorry I've been MIA but I've been terribly busy at work. All is well. I'm just happy playing House lol I just wanted to drop in and recommend a movie to you.

In The Mood For Love came out before 2046 and is a prequel to it.
I have to say I liked this movie much much much better.
