| Six Weeks Down... Only Fourteen Left!Yes my friends and family, a little over three months still remains until I a graduate. Since I last posted a very full six weeks have passed by. These have been the sort of weeks that once they're done it seems like its been forever since we started, not a mere six weeks. God has been faithful in keeping me strong and able to keep up with everything that has gone on. Up until the beginning of the fourth week we had been working exclusively in the class room on our legal sections. Going over such interesting topics as Liability, Juveniles, and Property Crimes to name a few. We have had some very interesting instructors. From quiet and personable to loud and obnoxious, but you have to take them all in stride. Since we have covered the major legal sections we have been able to work in some practical exercises as well. We've done basic traffic stops and worked on being able to write tickets as well as doing DUI stops, and all the gobs of paperwork that goes along with those. Last week we had a break from class room studies and worked solely on firearms training. We spent the first half of the week working on the basics of target shooting and practicing the sections that we were going to have to qualify in. Thursday and Friday we actually did our qualifications. It all involved timed sections of shooting from the 25, 15, 7, and 5 yard lines. In one of the courses we had to run from each section to the next. Although it was a lot of fun, I can honestly say that I am glad to go back to class room work for this next week. It will probably be much less stressful and not nearly as tiring as this past week. That is a quick overview of what has taken up the majority of my last six weeks. I'd like to say that I have had other things to occupy my time, but honestly I have not done too much else. My evenings are usually spent in getting ready for the next day, studying, dinner, getting some things done around the house, and family devotions. When I can I try to make it to the gym in order to supplement the PT we do. This past week we had several families over to celebrate David A.'s and Cara's birthdays, and then went contra-dancing. Sometime this week we are having a goodbye... party, get-together thing for Joseph Moss. As I said, tomorrow we start class room work again. Most of the week we will be doing Investigations. I'd continue to appreciate prayers as the next few months will continue to be a challenge to me. As our instructors say, just remember the goal of June 20th... Make it to that day, and the hard work really starts. | | |
| New BeginningsDang, I Have to relearn how to do all of this stuff... To begin with, for anyone who doesn't already know, I have just recently been accepted to the Newport News Police Department. As soon as I get home from vacation(31st) I have to go and get measured for my academy uniforms. My official hire date isn't until the 8th though. At that point myself and the other new recruits will be finishing our paperwork, getting our I.D.s processed, and just doing some busy work around the office. We'll have to do those kinds of things untill the 29th, which is when the academy starts. So I will get paid for three weeks of, I donno, nothing really... That'll be nice. And then once the academy starts, it will be about five months of PT, training, practical exercises, PT, shooting, oh, and did I mention PT!! But I can't wait. Right now I'm in Florida visiting family and friends. Having a blast, and wishing it could last longer. We leave sometime Friday, for Atlanta. There Steven and I will be meeting up with some friends to go see the Hokies play in the CFA bowl. And then to home... That'll have to do for now, my updating muscles are exhausted ;) | | |
