The term hypoglycemia literally means "under-sweet blood" (Gr. hypo-, glykys, haima).

Heehee...that makes me giggle. My blood isn't sweet enough!

Well, that's what my doc thinks. She suggested I totally change my lifestyle so that I eat a bit every 2 hours. I'll never be full or very hungry...just constantly more stable in my sugar and insulin levels. I like it so far. It's been hard to remember to eat every two hours...but I don't need that much coaxing :)
Ever since I was an infant, my parents noticed that I would get very cranky if I didn't eat for a while. During high school and college...and now, I'll get shaky sometimes if I haven't eaten for a while. We'll see if this change makes a difference.

This shouldn't be so bad!
The fabric of lyrics, stage, and long lost idols

Yesterday I had a professional audition. It was the season audition for Lyric Stage, which is a pretty well known producer of musical theatre in Dallas. I had never tried out there before, so I didn't know what to expect. Upon walking in I saw my friend Curt, so it calmed my nerves. I saw 4 people I knew over the course of the 30 minutes I was there. It really is a small world in theatre. They asked for two songs, so I gave them "How Could I Ever Know" from The Secret Garden, and "Honey Bun" from South Pacific. I thought they were a good mix of styles: legit with lots of interpretation, and cutesy/belt. I got all the way through both of them. I thought I did pretty well. After I was finished, the director asked me "Amy, I see you have some dance training here. How is your tap?" To which I replied ... "I'm not gonna lie. I'm a really good faker." Both directors and the pianist burst out laughing. The pianist said that was the best answer he'd heard. So...even if I shot myself in the foot, I at least left a smile on their faces. We'll see.

Today I had a doctor's appointment in Dallas, which is close to some stores I like, so I took my mom along with me. We went to Sam Moon (world famous place for cheap jewelry and purses), and then to Golden D'or, awesome fabric wholesale warehouse. I am attempting to make a War Between the States era dress which will require almost 8 yards of silk, so I need a good bargain!

While walking through the long rows of fabric I stopped dead in my tracks. Turning to my mom, I whispered "...isn't that my 7th grade English teacher?" She said that she believed it was. My heart was pounding. Standing before me was a woman I've since come to admire as the sole person who is responsible for getting me excited about great books. Since having her for 7th and 8th grade History-English class, I have loved the classical education model, loved what we learned, and often have thought of her. At 26, I'm the age she was when she last taught me all those years ago. And there we were, randomly in the same fabric shop on Harry Hines boulevard in Dallas. I called her name and she recognized me, and we caught up. She's getting married next month and her wedding dress has a snag she's trying to fix. I was so blessed and astounded to run into her like that! We exchanged email addresses and I hope to keep in touch with her. Her teaching has meant the world to my life.

I never did get the fabric for that dress, because I spent all my time talking. But it doesn't matter. Lives take shape over the course of time that slips away, unnoticed. I'm sure we all have at least one special teacher, neighbor, pastor, mentor...that has shaped our lives and helped us become the best version of ourselves. Realize our passion and potential. Sometimes these people slip out of our lives before we know it. I was blessed by God to run into her today, and I believe it was indeed a divine appointment.

So, I'm confused.

Am I getting an economic stimulus check or not?

How would I know? I assumed I didn't make enough to get one, but someone told me I did. I have a very high last two digits of my social security number, so I was thinking it would come mid-July. Well...it's mid-July. Should I have received some type of notice in the mail that my check was coming? Or am I just not getting one? How maddening.

For something not-maddening...I found this website. http://www.baby-to-sleep.com/
More like "Amy to sleep dot com". I love the sound of rain and thunder...so relaxing. I'm listening to it right now.

Andrew's parents, along with Christine and Adam, came to the show tonight. It's so great to have fans in the audience :)

It gives different readings each time if I weigh myself a few times in a row. This is bad for person with OCD tendencies like me. I got out my old analog scale and I feel much better :)

But it was fun. I totally copied Alysa.

I just got back from a midnight gym workout. Remember, my mantra for this month is "Every Day in July"...and well, yesterday I didn't go. So today I went for a whole hour on the elliptical machine to make up for it. Wow! After you feel like you want to stop, it feels really peaceful. I watched Law and Order: CI with captions while I worked out.

This week has been great, with working out. I've lost about 2 lbs!

I met my friend Kara today at a tea room we'd neither been to. It was decent, but they didn't have half the stuff we asked about on their menu, and the manager/owner was rude to the waitress in our presence. Not good. They did make my food look yummy, though...

It's micro blogging, just like the Xanga Pulse. Here is where you can follow me.
http://twitter.com/thespia

I hope you had a great day, as well. Not seeing him for a few weeks vs. a whole year is very different. My heart goes out to those who lose their significant other for months, even a year at a time...or longer. One of Andrew's friends has been out of the Army or a while...and was a captain. They just recalled him and are deploying him. I really feel for those people!

I'm very thankful that Andrew is okay with whatever happens, Army-wise. He's in the Reserves, so he'll have to get a job once he gets out of training, unless the Army has other plans. I guess you'll have to stay tuned for what happens...as will I.

So, we had a good rest of the weekend. I cut his hair today, because he didn't have time to get it cut and it was too long. It looked, um...interesting. He's on his way back to Oklahoma right now. I might see him in a few weeks.

When he's gone, I'm glad to be an introvert. I enjoy alone time while still missing him. It works out well.
4th of July Fun

Here are some pics for you guys. It was your standard fun 4th of July...slept in, made some yummy food (I made burgers, 7 layer dip, and this whipped up salad with oranges and pineapples) got sleepy, took a nap, then went and watched fireworks. My exercise for the day was eating way too much (chewing burns calories!!) and then walking to the park in our town and back after it was all done. That counts, right? Heehee.

I have a show tomorrow...and I haven't looked at my lines all week. Oops. I'll do it right after I post this :)

In the yard...

Going to the park to watch fireworks!

He loves doing this...don't ask.
