| Weblog Entry..I know I've been through this page many times before, but it's been long enough since I have that it feels unfamiliar. There's enough going on in my life that I don't feel like I have to tell the Internet about it, so I'll make it official and leave Xanga. The site will be here as long as they don't implement a no-activity timeout (unlikely - there are years-old sites still sitting around). I was going to make private all the posts as a way of turning out the lights, but there's no reason to, really. Browse stuff if you like.
Also many times, I've seen other people write this post, and said "no, don't go!". Now as it comes my turn, I think I wasn't really paying attention. There are a lot of fun people using blogs, but life, not writing about life, is the point. It's been fun, guys.
If you need me, I'll be over there. nuez.jr at gmail (also XMPP) gws at acm.wwu.edu (XMPP) I haven't logged on to this in a while due to some software trouble. This will probably be fixed in the future. nuez jr on AIM nuez_jr on Yahoo! nuez_jr at hotmail on MSN. This is also an email, but I've pretty much despised Hotmail since Microsoft bought them out, so I'm going to disable the mailbox if I can and just keep the messenger. I have an account on Facebook.
On that note, I do want to point out that Facebook didn't kill my Xanga. Rather, Facebook asks less of my time at a minimum. It's a shallow medium compared to "real" blogging, and that's fine by me. I'm going to go out and actually do the things that make life interesting to write about. If and when I want to write more, maybe I'll be back. In the mean time, you know how to reach me.
Cheers. | | |

| As some of you have noticed, I'm getting married in three weeks. For those who have not yet noticed...I'm getting married in three weeks.
This constitutes part of the reason I've not used Xanga much. The reason itself is simply that I am not on my computer as much as I used to be. I sort of miss those days.
But enough moping. I'm getting married. 'Nuff said.
| First post in forever - as has happened some number of times before.Although I created this blogsite with the archetypical "I only signed up to comment my friends", I seem to keep coming back, time and time again. From another perspective, I started blogging only to time and time again let Xanga go by the wayside as I discovered each of the latest websites/games/programs to catch my interest. But I keep coming back. I guess if I do it long enough I can get away with calling the lapses temporary anomalies, rather than being the norm. That is to say, enough seniority confers the right to do so. Nevermind that I've been in what you could call an 'active blogging state' less than XX% of the time, I've been around longer than YOU so I can talk. So there.
Something else interesting: this was intended to be a quick one-line post explaining why I haven't said anything in a while, and possibly won't for yet another while. But now I'm getting all introspective. Perhaps this can be chalked up to old habits. Namely, that of staying up late when I should be sleeping.
Enough of that. (really?)
What I was trying to say, was to rhetorically wonder if there exists such a thing as excess of Real Life. If there does, then it makes a perfect explanation for why Xanga and Facebook and Y!PP forums...and lately, even email, IM, and IRC... have suffered such neglect: I've been out working* or out hanging or out chilling with Sarah instead.
And what if not? How should be called this new, shifted balance between online activity and its AFK counterpart? I think there is some merit to the concept of 'too much' real life, in that friends online are still friends. I understand the difference between face-to-face communication and written words from someone whose face we may never see, but friendship is not dependent on vision or hearing or any specific combination of the physical senses. As such, an 'online' fiendship can suffer from neglect just as much as a 'real' friendship.
But back on the other side of the coin, it is self-evident to anyone who has observed both, that real-world friendships and online friendships are different. I cannot as yet satisfy myself with any simple definition of how, but a difference there is.
This matter deserves more consideration.
And somewhere along the way, I think I explained what I came here for in the first place.
* I must admit that the word-reversal elsewhere evident in this list does not, despite the implication, mean that 'out working' should be rectified to mean 'working out'. Although I would be most greatful if you could tell me where I left my beach ball..?
