| "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.Today was a terrible day. Woke up from yet another dream about family members trying to kill me (which probably stems from a recent, somewhat similar real life event...), and immediately went to into a severe panic attack. I hyperventilated so badly that I collapsed onto the floor and just laid in a ball gasping for air while the room spun around my head. I don't bother going to the ER with panic attacks because there's really not a whole lot they can do. I finally started breathing normally around 11:00 and as my mind came back to reality, I realized that it I missed my first day of clinicals so I threw clothes on because I needed to explain to my supervisor. However, before I even got out the door, she called me. I tried talking to her about it, but she was pretty livid and just said I have to talk to her about it after class tomorrow. I pretty much felt like the sky was falling at that point.
Later, as I was trying to fix the lid to my hedgehog's cage (she keeps getting out at night and ending up on my bed), my knife broke in half and the sharp part ended up cutting really deep into my finger. Then, I accidentally slammed that same finger in a drawer just a little bit later. As if I didn't have enough trouble with the eczema on my hands and all its blisters, peeling, cracking, itching, and pain.
On my way to my 4:00 class, I stepped in a puddle as I was getting into my car and ruined my white satin shoes (I didn't realize it was rainy). Then, I ended up scratching the car a little bit because I ran into a pole in the parking lot. These two moron girls were staring and I wanted to run them over. I got my test back in class and got a C, which made me even angrier. And then, just to add icing to the cake, I had a parking violation sitting on my windshield when I got out of class. Seriously, I live off-campus, it was raining, and it was an afternoon class so there was hardly anybody there anyway. There were even empty parking spaces left. Those stupid security idiots need to get a freaking life.
That said, I guess I should try to take some advice from Emerson (easier said than done):
"Finish each
day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders have
crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall
begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old
nonsense." -Emerson | | |
| Blues for Sister Someone"A wise man once said
you can have anything in life if you will sacrifice everything else for
it. What he meant is nothing comes without a price. So before you go
into battle, you better decide how much you're willing to lose. Too
often, going after what feels good means letting go of what you know is
right, and letting someone in means abandoning the walls you've spent a
lifetime building. Of course, the toughest sacrifices are the ones we
don't see coming, when we don't have time to come up with a strategy to
pick a side or to measure the potential loss. When that happens, when
the battle chooses us and not the other way around, that's when the
sacrifice can turn out to be more than we can bear." | | |
| Tag!Here are the instructions: 1) Grab the book closest to you. 2) Open to page 123; go down to the fourth sentence. 3) Post the text of the following three sentences. 4) Name the author and book title.
"All this goes back to the idea of the lifeboat and how Jesus, outside that system, wouldn't believe one person was any better than another. Apparently this counterintuitive belief system was obvious in the character of Christ. In the Gospels, Jesus is always surrounded by the poor, by the marginalized." - Donald Miller, Searching for God Knows What I'm glad that this is what I turned to in the book. It's to be reminded every once in a while that God loves everyone equally. Even Paris Hilton. Even the homeless man in ratty clothes. Even murderers. Even that annoying girl that won't shut up. Everyone. Sometimes it's really humbling to think about that. How if Jesus could treat beggars and thieves with just as much kindness as he showed to the rich and important leaders, then I should be willing to do the same. And if I live my life with that attitude, I can accomplish so much more for the Lord than I ever could by being snobby, or whatever you want to call it. Even Proverbs says that God detests "haughty eyes." Compassion and genuine interest in others are key when it comes to reaching out to people, and that's not possible when you are too busy looking down on them. I dunno, just a thought. Anyway, in honor of Valentine's day next week, I'll leave you with this: 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If
I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all
knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not
love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
