| 104 Years Ago, Across the Atlantic.... I don't know as much of my family history as I would like, but every time I start hearing stuff, it's usually about how Aunt So-and-So never forgave Aunt Whats-her-Face for buying that house on Whatever St. instead of the one next to hers. Simply put, I have a hard time paying attention.
This week however was different. My cousins from British Columbia happened to be driving home from Florida and were able to stop and visit. (which in and of itself was a wonderful time) As we were visiting, family history came up and a lot of it was of the aforementioned variety, but then something else came up... My Mom pulled out the inspection ticket (pictured below) of my Great Grandfather's when he immigrated from Sweden to the U.S. 104 years ago today on the RMS Capathia. The name of the ship was instantly recognized, that is the same Carpathia that would rescue the survivors of the Titanic sinking 9 years later. What was also cool to find out (thanks Wikipedia!) was that May 5th was the Carpathia's maiden voyage!
Everyone wants to be a part of history. It's just cool to say you're related to so-and-so, and that your ancestor was there when whatever happened. Now as far as I know, none of my ancestors were villains in Mel Gibson movies or Presidents, but I'm quite satisfied with knowing that my Great Grandfather sailed to America on the maiden voyage of the ship that would rescue the Titanic survivors!

| I got the BlusSo we’ve come to 2007 at last… I’m not sure how to sum up 2006 other than it
being better than 2005. It has
definitely been a time of change. Several
people are moving away, (the most surprising being my sister transferring to Florida!) so I can’t help but feel a little loss with
friends and even family moving off. It
hasn’t been all bad though, we’ve had some great new things in ’06. Most notably, I’ve been able to take part in
the birth of a New Church! We threw an
excellent surprise party for my mom’s 70th birthday, we even flew my
Aunt and Uncle in from British
Columbia to surprise her! And finally, I was able to get a PlayStation
3! I don’t have any PS3 games yet, and I don't even spend that much time playing video games. I do spend a lot of time watching movies though, and the PS3 is the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market.
So far I’ve been able to watch Stargate and Superman Returns in High Definition
and they are incredible! I’ve been following the development of the Blu-Ray format for a couple years, so it’s
really great to finally have it!As for 2007, I don’t have any New Years Resolutions… (Of course last year’s came to me a couple
days later so maybe the same will happen this year.) Now that we've got Grace Point off the ground, I look forward to seeing where it will go in it's second year. And of course I will be turning 30! I am feeling a little bittersweet about
some things coming to a close, but I’m looking forward to seeing what 2007
brings us… | | |

| Reports of my Xanga death have been greatly exaggerated…I’m not dead! I think
I’ll go for a walk! I feel happy!
OK, so it’s been a while.
I haven’t posted for two reasons… First: While it would be inaccurate to
say that nothing has happened in the
last few months, there really hasn’t been anything blog-worthy in the last few
months except for the second reason: I
got a little overwhelmed by little annoying things (mostly at work). This resulted in the last entry and any entry
I started writing after that was just more complaining. So now it’s nearly four months later and I had to write something to allay any fears that I dropped off the face of the earth!
I joined facebook today…
I’m still not even sure what it is, but I’m a part of it now! I’ve become friends with people I thought I
was already friends with…
Finally I’ll jump on the YouTube link bandwagon with these
clips of C-3P0 and R2-D2 visiting Sesame
Street in '79. They’re all completely out of order and some are better than
others, but there are some cute scenes in there. Unfortunately they didn’t meet up with Bert and Ernie… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XWZ_VbCrPs&mode=related&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOVPpoIS2bU&mode=related&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzKX_uMLJno&mode=related&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsxmhCWbI88&mode=related&search=
