MONTHLY MISSION REPORT FOR REV. ARMOND

It’s SPRING! Or at least spring is around the corner. But you would never know it by looking outside. The snow is still piled high and the temperatures have been well below freezing again this week. We may not feel like the bulbs that were planted last fall are going to ever bloom, but God promises that spring will come.

On that same note, sometimes in our ministry, it can seem like a long winter that is never going to end. We may not see the progress that we hope for. We may not see the thawing and rebirth going on deep inside of a person. But while we can’t always go by what we see with our eyes, we can trust that when Gods love starts to thaw that ground, those bulbs will begin to grow and soon we will see the beautiful flowers that spring promises. We have seen that already this past week as another man has accepted Gods’ gift of salvation. What a glorious spring he is having!

God is great & He is definitely on the move. He’s always moving but always right there, always changing but always the same. How can he do that?

We have experienced a lot of pain in the hearts of those who come to Bridge of Hope. We have witnessed the attack the evil one has had on families and on marriages. We have witnessed the attack on the mental wellbeing of our brothers & sisters in Christ. I have spoken to and counseled numbers of teens and their parents lately regarding the attack that Satan has had on their relationships. I have had to redirect several teens in their focus and guide them in an alternate pattern of thinking.

But praise the Lord the hearts and minds of the saints are being renewed while the souls of the lost are being saved! The Spirits intervention into the lives of those that I mentioned before has been awesome! God has renewed the hopes of many, but more importantly he has caused those who believe to be at peace. He is showing them that He is God and that if they are content with that fact they will rise above their current trials all the way to a victorious end!

My latest endeavor is a prayer campaign. I have been praying for people outside of those who attend our service on Sunday. Much like the church body that Keynote speaker Reggie McNeal of the “One Thing” event in San Antonio described. I am determined to be a “blessing” to my new community by going to local businesses that are in my area and offering prayer for their concerns.

I simply go into businesses that I frequent and have made a connection with an employees or manager, tell them of my 4-6 week prayer campaign to see God move mightily in their lives and then have them fill out a note paper with their prayer requests. I tell them to please make it something that they can measure the effectiveness of my prayers. I tell them that is has to be something that they really want and something that would convince them that God is real. & I check back with them weekly.

The response has been as incredible as I expected it would be. I have 6 local businesses that have an average of 10 people that all have signed up and given me prayer requests. Some of them contain believers and some contain everything else even including atheists and agnostics.

My desire is simply this; I want to see God do a work in their lives simply to show them that He does exist & that He is alive! One of the most incredible things that you will see if you take on this task is; people want God to do something great in their lives. People want to believe that He is the all mighty. People want God to be real and to trust the almighty, but so many things in this world, including his people, have caused them to turn away. They have been broken by life situations & beaten into a Godless stupor by continuous trial that leave them with no taste for God or His way.

So my personal endeavor is to take a spiritual stand with them for the reconnection with God that is so vitally needed in every person that I have come in contact with. As you can imagine it is time consuming & requires a lot of effort & diligence. However I really desire that God works in their lives! What is your desire for your community? Email me & let me know…. “Quiet be still!” Why are you so afraid do you still have no faith?” Mark 4:39b & 40b

How many of us are excited about the opportunity to face hardships? How many of us look forward to staring down the barrel of a loaded gun (figuratively)? Well I do not believe that I have ever met anyone that has said to me “Armond, FuZz, Fat-Guy” I am looking forward to the excruciating pain that I am going to have to endure in this next trial that I am facing! When I meet that “challenged” person I will gladly look him/her square in the face& say “Oh please Take Your Medicine!”

I guess that sounded pretty mean huh? I suppose it was not really edifying either, but you all know that you were thinking it. Weren’t you? BE TRUTHFUL! With respect to trials in life I am still a spring chicken in comparison to some & a seasoned veteran to others. I have had my fair share of trials in this life. One of which is the ongoing struggle to maintain the financial supporters that I have and gaining the remaining supporters that I need to reach my families needs.

Just recently we have had 3 very dedicated & crucial financial supporters discontinue their support to us that equaled $300.00 a month. As you can imagine losing supporters can be a “sinking” feeling especially when you are not meeting your budget monthly as it is. And when they are the dedicated and consistent as these folks have been it can be a big blow. I do not want to bring you down I want to lift you up. Let me tell you first that we are very thankful for your support to this ministry & that we totally understand your reason for discontinuing. And secondly we pray for you & ask that God bless you so very much for you past contributions to this ministry.

“Where is your faith?” Luke 8:25a

Wednesday night during the small group that Clete & Teresa (members of B.O.H.) we studied Faith. The passage was out of Luke 8:22-25. Jesus instructs His disciples to get into a boat & take a ride to the other side of the lake. After setting off Jesus finds a comfortable spot to take a very much needed nap & falls asleep. Then a squall came down & swamped the boat, water was everywhere & filling the boat! They were in great danger!!! Their very lives were at risk & they were in the middle of the lake! What ever were they to do?!! So someone got the bright idea let’s go wake up Jesus & let Him know that we (including Himself) were about to DIE IN A BOAT ON THE LAKE!!!!! Imagine that, Jesus dying on that boat that would have made the news! “Jesus of Nazareth dies today in a furious squall on lake, salvation’s plan put on hold… film at eleven!!!”

They wake him up & they ask Him… “Master don’t you even care that we are all going to die?!!!!”(Mark chapter 4) just imagine Jesus finally getting some sleep after working so hard preaching, picking out the knuckle heads that are on the boats waking Him up, facing down Beelzebub after not eating for days, casting out demons, healing people, raising the dead, giving sight to the blind, you know, all the stuff that the savior of the world was responsible to do, woken up because of a little thing like imminent danger.

It’s a good thing that it wasn’t me. I would have had a few choice words to the fellas before speaking to the wind and waves. Then I would have said to the wind & the waves HEY! KNOCK IT OFF! Then I would have had a few more choice words with the fellas!

I believe that Jesus, when he was awakened and said…“Quiet be still!” Why are you so afraid do you still have no faith?” Mark 4:39b & 40b He was probably pretty upset with the boys.

If the fellas would have taken a look at Jesus to see what He was doing instead of looking at the current predicament that they were in & then mimicked Him they would have been working in trust. And if they would have spoken to the wind & the waves and told them to be still they would have been working in faith. Christ was teaching them that the message is simply “I am in the boat with you have faith & trust in me.”

God has put us in a boat here in Waterloo and we are going to do two things while we are sailing across this lake. We are going to watch Jesus & see what He is doing when we hit rough waters. And we are going to speak to the winds & the waves and tell them “Peace… Be still”.

I am being challenged to do as the word says and “consider it pure joy whenever I face many different trials, James 1:2” So I am saying “Yay I get to stretch my faith muscles and I get to witness God do a miracle again in our lives!” I encourage you folks to do the same.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you the faithful! God has done some really remarkable this for us this year. He has blessed us beyond our expectations. We want to acknowledge some folks & share with you just some of the awesome rewards that God shared with us & where they came from. Please thank God with us for the great things he has done.

First I would like to thank the brothers & sisters of the following continuing Financial & prayer support churches. Thank you to Bridge of Hope, First Reformed Oostburg, First Reformed Sheboygan Falls, and Stout Reformed Church. We would like to also acknowledge the following first time gift giving churches for their gifts of additional support in 2007: Reformed Church of Bristow, Grace Baptist Church Waterloo and Grace Reformed Church Waterloo also Thrivent insurance co, in association with Jamie & Chris Pawalski.

To our individual prayer & financial supporters; I will keep you out of the spot light as I know that you would like to remain there. However my family & I would very much like to openly thank you for the awesome dedication & reliability that you have shown us while we labor in the vineyards of ministry for the Lord.

I would also like to include in this letter my thanks to Teresa & Chuck Van Horn at the Van Horn auto dealerships in Plymouth Wisconsin for their donation of a 1998 Dodge Durango. As many of you can guess I put on a lot of miles for ministry purposes. This also means wear & tear and I wear down vehicles very quickly. Teresa has been a very crucial part in the travel portion of my ministry supplying me with reliable, dependable vehicles. Thanks again Teresa.

There are many reasons to be thankful this Christmas, for example Aria not being seriously or mortally wounded when she fell 15 feet from a tree or some other major catastrophe. We are truly thankful for the good friends that we have here in Waterloo. We are thankful for the ministry that is a vital part of the church and a vital part of our lives. We are thankful for our partners in ministry the lead visionary pastor & family Kevin and Stephanie, VanWyk. We are grateful for the school that Harmony & Richard now attend Walnut Ridge Baptist Academy. This private school enrollment only happened because of the increase in support that some of you have chosen to send to make it possible for a solid Christian education for them. Lastly we can thank God for a blessed Christmas that we shared with one another, and we pray that you did too.

Bridge Of Hope Church’s “Operation Love Thy Neighbor” was a success! We partnered with the North East Iowa Food Bank to help 22 families from the area have a Christmas meal and Christmas presents for their children. It was a great joy for our group to be out in the community serving our brothers & sisters on the Eastside of Waterloo. A lot of the people that we served were from our own church & were blessed to receive these gifts of love.

We had a TON of help… No seriously there was 2021 lbs of us at the food bank! We all weighed in at a little over a ton! There were 11 of us for the trailer loading at the food bank. There were 7 of us that were wrapping gifts for the children and their families from Lincoln Elementary School. Lorry Collins was our power Shopper for all of the kids and families. Then there were 8 of us that went out & personally delivered the packages to people. We had a great time & we could see the joy & gratitude on the faces of the people as we gave.

Since this Letter is coming to you in the middle of January I would like to also include some more wonderful news. We had a first at the church in the theatre. We had an alter call. This was the first time that it had been done there and the first time it was done since B.O.H. started. Sure it was done almost every youth night with teens giving their lives or rededicating their new walks with God, but never in “big church”.

There were 63 people in attendance on Sunday the 6^th and after Kevin’s message “Facing Giants- Knowing Your Enemies” I came up & had prayer and lead an alter call. There were 9 or 10 people that came down for rededication & first time commitments to Christ. YAY! God was really moving that morning & everyone that came into the theatre could feel the Holy Spirit! Almost everyone that came in said the same thing.

Because of that there is now a 7am Saturday morning men’s fellowship bible study. We met for the first time and I lead the study with Romans 8: 9, 12-16 living according to the spirit. This Sunday I preached on “Facing Giants” as well “Covenanting with God.” After wards there were another 2 that came forward! YAY again! What a super blessing to have God move in people enough for them to make such a bold commitment!

Next Sunday my message is the close of the series on “Facing Giants-Trusting God.” I expect that God will again Show up and knock our socks off! The following week we will be showing the movie “Facing the Giants” in the theatre as a cap to the series. I wish that a lot of you could physically share in the blessing that we call ministry.

They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up on wings like eagles, they shallwalk & not faint,
they shall run & not grow weary…

When the Lord talks to you, you should really listen… If God is calling to you or leading you or piercing you heart this season to do more then you really need to listen closely. Earlier this season we had a plan to have several of us in the church plan & do some outreach programs in several parks where we could serve our community. Most of them did not happen. In fact the one that I planned & put together was the only park event that did. Kevin's open house to reach his neighborhood went well and they had 30-40 people from the neighborhood come. But my community picnic in the park was the one that was planned to be last and was to cost the most. It was easy for mosrt to think "Why even bother?" especially when it started to rain just as the picnic was to start. The plans could have easily been thwarted had we not stuck to what we felt God leading us to do. It wasn't until the mid afternoon 1 and a half hours before we packed up that we saw the largest number of people from the community show. 60-70 people was the total for the day that we served free hamburgers, hot dogs, an assortment of deserts, soda, water, games and Blepo the clown. Since then we have had a few of these people visit quite a few times. That and the fact that the ones that have come have been blessed by the word and we can now reach them for Christ is awesome.

I have learned that even when we are “busy” working for the Lord we can have our ears shut and insist on “finishing the project that God has put us in charge of”. Or we could be ready to move on and take the road that “appears” to be what God wants for you. You need to be in constant communication with the Father through prayer & studying the word & you need especially be sensitive to the Holy Spirit.

This last spring I received a call from a person that I did not know. The call was from a place I had been only once maybe twice ever, and it was concerning a thing that I had not thought of or even expressed an interest in. the call was from a church in Minnesota and the call was about a youth pastor position in their church. They had received my name from someone in South Dakota and wanted me to apply. I thought that is was a joke from one of Rachel’s cousins that goes there. When the search committee called me I really did think that it was a joke so I responded as I would any other person playing a prank on me. Well even after a lengthy conversation with the lead person from the search committee and even setting up an interview date I still believed it to be a hoax. Even after getting there and meeting the people I expected that someone was going to pop out from behind the wall & say “YOU’VE BEEN PUNKED!”

Long story short, the interview was real the desire was real, the need was very real. The love and respect that I received from these wonderful people and the very enticing offer of salary, benefits, and stability was all too overwhelming! I really did wrestle with what God was trying to tell me with this. I literally flopped back and forth between taking the position and not daily. Mon yes I’m taking the job, Tuesday I can’t Wednesday yes we’re moving! Thursday I can’t…

One Thursday my decision was final. I was taking the position and I just new that that was the answer! I thought surely this is right because I wasn’t searching for it & it had to be a God thing. I mean really out of nowhere there is a church looking at my Xanga site that is really only for my Supporters. But in talking to Clete one of my good friends here in Iowa and telling him that I was definitely taking the position for my family and that I was torn because it meant so many good things for my family but that I really felt uneasy in my spirit. Then he posed a question to me. He said “Well have you done everything that God called you here for?” I couldn’t answer any other way but “No.” And then came the horrible time of telling those wonderful people at that great church that I could not take the position. (For which I was created for by the way… very sad face here!)

I know that the Lord wants me here and I know that he has a great amount of work for our entire family here as He has proven these last 2 years. I do admit that with the $50,000.00 that we now owe for Aria’s medical bills from falling 15 feet out of a tree the need for insurances and the still urgent need for support makes me think that it would have been nicer to… Never mind. Anyway I think you get my point and if not let me make it clear to you. Be obedient to God no matter what. By the way I know that I have not kept you all up on Aria's health report and I am very sorry that I have been late in informing you. We have been very busy trying to get aide for our bills her health is good & she has recovered fully and there are no further complications.

God may have us to do a different thing for a short while as he works out another part of our lives. I am constantly reminded of this as I work with my kids. As they are working out a project or chore here at the house I may have them “busy” doing a work for me and then because of time or need I will ask them to change what they’re doing because that’s what they need to do right now. I know the frustration of having to explain to them that they need to be doing something else right now. I also know the frustration of when they resist my directions and insist on continuing the project they are working on. This took me all day to convince them to do, in the first place!

God will have you do a project to completion but along the way He may have you complete a side project. Please be ready to “Wait” on the Lord. Do not think of it as in not doing anything, but rather as a waiter would do for you in a restaurant. When you think of or hear the scripture “They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up on wings like eagles, they shall walk & not faint, they shall run & not grow weary…” Think of the “wait” as an act of servitude.

Know that when we do for others and when we pray for others and when we forgive others and when we tell others of the “good-news” and we do it even at the cost of insurance & salary we are waiting on the Lord and He will provide for us even when we cannot see it coming. We are serving others for love’s sake and we are showing them & growing them in God’s plan!

Well on another note Bridge of Hope is growing! While it seems we're growing slowly and painfully slow sometimes I must admit, I know that we are in God's hands.We as a church are in need of people to partner in ministry with us. Christians that can help us grow the core team of people so that we can be even more effective. We need financial partners that will come along side of us and catch the vision of Bridge Of Hope. to see that vision go to the church website www.bridgeofhopechurch.com We as a ministry are in the Ephesians 6:10-19 stage. The part where we understan that our growth is being slowed because of spiritual warefare. We are praying every Thursday night from 6:30 to 8:30 or 9:00 and now we are doing a weekly fast on Mondays. And finally the youth ministry at B.O.H. is going slowly as well. we need volunteer bodies and strrong mentors to help me as we retune the youth program. I still am doing mentoring to a few teens and we have a young adults ministry that I am developing with Kevin & some of the young adults from the church. We will kick off the study & outreach of that in January. To see what & how we do youth ministry visit the website. Hello to you my faithful friends and partners in ministry. I am not going to say much this letter. I was doing my regular check through the bulletins that post on Myspace when I came across these posts from one of the teens that I have not seen in a while. I will let the letter from that teen and my reply serve as the update letter along with some general conversation between others. Life in itself Seems to be testing me..
Am I strong enough; will I make it.
Can I do this; am I worth it.
Is it too late; did I learn my lesson.....

I'm fighting, but am I fighting too hard..

Life-saving moments, and people who deserve to be heard.
This is from Fuzzy @ Bridge of Hope Church.
     I had been having a rough time at school, at home, with friends, and with rumors going around, and at the moment, I had hated everything about my life. I posted a bulletin on Myspace, and my favorite Chocolate man responded with that message.. something that not only made my day a little bit better, but brightened my future. Thanks, Fuzzy.

This is my buddy Joey. He is like most teens from our area. Needs his space, needs to do for himself, and needs to have responsibilities. He needs direction, needs money and needs to belong. He needs love, needs discipline and he needs a good swift kick in the rear end on occasion.
But I tell you what; he has been a helper, a friend, an outreach person, a witness to others, and a goof at times. He’s my go to guy for guitar on the praise team, and when we have youth events I know that he can draw a crowd. He has a job that he goes to regularly & is responsible at and just saved his money for weeks to buy a HUGE amplifier for His guitar!!!! That was $400.00 dollars. His very own money… YAY!!! We have been buds pretty much since I came here a little over 2 years ago & I look forward to spending time with him. He has grown so very much in God & in life I am proud of him & just wanted to celebrate his growth and to share it with you.

This is my bud Steff. She & I and other youth were out this past Sunday November 4^th and we were talking about how she was doing as I had not seen her in weeks, because she has been going to the church where her boyfriend goes. I had not seen her for sometime before she got her job @ IHOP. She had been experiencing some rough times and was doing poorly in school. Her faith was challenged at times and she had some friends turn their backs on her… again. Lately though she has been doing real well and things were really good. When I asked her what was the contributing factor other than God of course, she said getting her job. It has helped her gain that sense of responsibility that everyone needs to learn as a teen. I enjoy Steff she is a great young lady & a funny one too. It was awesome to get to see her again and I look forward to seeing her more. I want to praise God for her, her continuing growth in Him and for her personality & spirit. Yay Steff!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

Armond and I are so thankful for your support of the ministry here in Waterloo. We could not be doing this work if it weren’t for you. You are probably sick of hearing that by now but I don’t think it can be said enough. We simply would not be able to be here if it weren’t for your financial, emotional and prayer support. I wish you could be here to see the direct impact you are having in young people’s lives. I know Armond shares some stories with you in his new letters so I wont go into detail but just know that your support has meant that there are names in the Book of Life that were entered just this year because they met Christ through you. You may not have been here directly talking to them…..but you were here because you know the importance of supporting a man who is bold in sharing the Gospel of Jesus to these hurting teens. (And adults as well I might add).

OK, I said I wasn’t going to share stories but I just want to tell you about this one young man that has been particularly heavy on our hearts the past year or so. This is a kid whose mother values everything else over her son. She has married a man who can’t stand her son and literally treats him like yesterday’s trash. They are emotionally abusive to him at best and downright neglectful of him most of the time. They have taught him, by their actions and attitudes, that he is just no good….worthless. Then they get upset and angry at him when he acts out and gets in trouble with the law. There is so much I could share about this story but I will jump to yesterday. Armond called me to say that he was going to mow a woman’s lawn with “J” as part of his community service sentence for some trouble he’d gotten into with the law. At first I was annoyed because I wanted Armond home for supper.....just for selfish reasons. Then I realized that this boy is seeing Christ in what my husband is doing. He is being shown that someone cares enough about him to walk beside him…literally with a mower….and help him in his times of trouble. Someone values him enough to spend time with him, work with him, support him, and help him. I can’t help but feel proud that this boy will see Christ through my husbands caring act. He will feel that he has worth in someone’s eyes and most importantly, through Jesus’ eyes.

Armond spends a good deal of time, finding ways to show this boy that he has worth. He gives him projects to do that show just how talented he is. “J” is a really great editor…he puts together power point movies for Armond to use on Sunday mornings in church. He is a talented artist….Armond has him painting a sign for church on a huge theater poster stand that is going to be put inside of the theater and kept up all week long so people will see it and know that they are invited to come in and join us. The thing is, this kid can really do all of these things and more but has never been told that he has worth before. God has given him many great talents and for the first time, someone has taken the time to show him that. Through all of this, Armond shares Christ’s love with him too. He shares that even though his earthly family has failed and hurt him; God loves him and will adopt him into His family. I can’t wait until I can send you another letter saying that “J” has become our brother in Christ. I know that day is coming!

All of this is to just say that your support enables us to be here and to reach the many hurting kids in this area. I hope you see the value that your support has. I want to encourage you to continue to help change lives with us. We also want to thank you. What a blessing it is to us to know that you stand with us and enable us to do this work. I simply cannot express it the way my heart feels it. Thank you so very much!

Please pray that the Lord will deliver to us, our full support by the end of the coming year as it is becoming increasingly necessary for us to have it.

Please pray for the lost teens that are leading others down a path of destruction.

Pray that our youth that have come to know Christ here at B.O.H. will not be lost to peer pressure & go off the true path that is Christ Jesus.
