Life shouldn't be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly shouting, "Wow! What a ride! Thank You, Lord!" ~Beth Moore

Our church is doing a Vacation Bible
School theme except for
we are doing the extended version and just on Sundays. We call it, “Sunday
Summer Blast.” The theme is an amusement park. There are five characters they
use- a pirate, a cowboy, an astronaut, a princess and a frog prince.
My friend Bobbi and I were in charge of all the decorating
for the summer and it really turned out well. We had 6 rooms to decorate – The
Main meeting room, The Castle Carousel-snack, The Game Plank- games, Coaster
Planet-Bible Story, Wild West World-crafts and a big room that had a sampling
of all the rooms for the 3 and 4 year olds because they wouldn’t be switching
centers. We thought that might be too confusing for them. LOTS OF WORK!! We did
all the planning and shopping and a lot of the decorating, but then then we did
have lots of help from people who came in on two days to help us decorate. Bless
them!
Here are some pics.
The Main Room Closeups of the stage Wild West World Coaster Planet-Check out David’s meteor shower in the
corner. He also did the earth and the sun. What a great guy!
Castle Carousel
balloons at every door entrance.
David is in charge of the skits each week and doing a
marvelous job. Here’s a picture of some of the characters. I am the princess, but I'm not in the pic cause I'm taking the picture!
Last night two guys came to our door selling new security systems that measure body heat. They said that this was a new system, and they were only coming to nice houses in the neighborhood. They gave us lots of compliments about the flower gardens and the grass. They told us that their sign would look great in our yard. If we were willing they wanted us to be the first house on the street to have the system. We would get the system and installation for free and be charged a reduced monthly rate. It would also cause our home insurance to go down. Then all they were asking was if anyone in the neighborhood mentioned the sign to us that we would give them a referral. They were super nice, very polite and like I said, gave TONS of compliments that sounded genuine. But you know how it can be when someone wants a sale. We said we would need to think about it etc and they said they respected that and promptly got in their car and drove off. We thought that was kind of funny because then it seemed they really WERE only going to nice houses and we felt oddly pleased. Usually those guys go door to door. So then we were joking that our house is the best house on the street etc. hee.. hee...
Sleep last night was a little interrupted. We got a call at the house phone at 2:45 am which we ignored, but then when we heard them calling David's cell phone, we realized they must really know us. David's brother needed some code for something. David couldn't find it and made lots of noise (or at least it seemed like it) looking for it. By the time we got back to sleep it was about 3:30 or so. Next thing we know, the phone is ringing again and the doorbell is ringing at 7:45 am. WHAT?!! So we ignored it but the dogs didn't and it took some convincing to get them to be quiet. So... when I sleepily got up today I looked outside to see if someone left us something and they did. A check for my parents. Then the message from the lady said she was hoping to catch us before church but she guessed she missed us. Church starts at 11:00!!!!!!!!!!!
One more thing... If you have a climbing rose bush that won't climb up and prefers to fall over into your neighbor's driveway and scratch you when you try to bring the hose up front, I have an idea for you! Use zip ties. We tried rope, string, twine- all which makes you want to scream when you're trying to knot it, and then looks ugly afterwards. Nylon Zipties are skinny, easy to secure and blend in much better. HOORAY!! Thank you to Melody's mother for the incredible idea.
P.S. I heard a cardinal today and I followed his song and found him in the neighbor's tree. I love cardinals.
