Just an update on my life...

While our women's ministry at church is on a hiatus regarding a Bible study (because we're soon starting an 8 week study as a church on marriage), I've been doing Breaking Free by Beth Moore on my own. Has anyone done this study? It has been so productive. Areas of my life that I haven't realized could change are being submitted to God for His power to transform my mind and life. God is using this study to 1) show me thought patterns that need change, 2) encourage me that He will change me as I cooperate with Him, 3) show me things to do to help facilitate that change. He reveals truth through His word and does a work in my heart, I submit to His truth and actively pursue Him as Deliverer and Healer and Conquerer, and the fruit of that is a deeper intimacy with Him and a life that is changed! How exciting!

My son just called. He's had a stomach bug for a few days. He lives in Washington, D.C., so I can't bring him broth and crackers and baby him a little! I wonder if God ever feels that way about us. I really think His heart yearns to give us a big hug sometimes, especially when we're suffering. :)  I bet He'll do just that when we finally see Him face to face!

I've been making some changes in our diet around here. It seems everyone in my family has specific challenges when it comes to this. One has a digestive problem and should have no fat or insoluble fiber, one has an intolerance to wheat and sugar, my girls and I are always conscious of maintaining a healthy weight, and my husband desires a healthy diet for his heart. I thank God that many years ago, even way back when I was in college, I've always had an interest in nutrition and cooking. My prayer is that He will lead me to the research and recipes I need to help the medical care that they get on occasion. And change our tastes to like some of these foods that are new to us, i.e. I'm discovering miso, tofu, and many, many ways to use vegetables! lol! An old cookbook from the Weimar Institute and Mollie Katzen's incredibly creative cookbooks have been very helpful. God provides. :)  I've been making these apple date squares with no wheat, sugar, or fat (I know, I know, "and no taste" lol), but no, they're really good!

Enjoy your day!

Pam :)

Sounds like a great Bible study.  I've never read that one by Beth Moore.  Thought patterns are a biggie, I think, for most people.  For me, for sure.  I'm glad to read your thoughts on the study.  We are just coming back from a little break from our ladies study and starting into 1 John next week.

Your color scheme is so pretty...makes me think of spring! I admire your dedication so much....wish I was more like you in that respect. I certainly have some thought patterns that need changing, I'm sure. My sister-in-law is very into Beth Moore, but I've not done any of her studies. Maybe that is something I need to look into as we begin this new year. I've always thought of them as more of a group effort, but sounds like you're doing one on your own.

My hubby has a Jn Mac. Bible, and I like to read the notes, too.  I've had a TCR NIV for the past 20 years, so it's taken me a couple years (and falling pages!) to make the move for a new one.  I was rather attached to it, plus I really like to stick with one, so I can recall the area of a page where a certain passage is, etc.  I like the NAS better, so I'm glad to have that in the TCR now.  I think I might like the ESV best of all, but TCR has assured me repeatedly that they are not going to publish that version.  So, the NAS it is...  :)

We aren't using a book or series for the study, but rather writing it myself.  Pretty straight forward study going through the Word, verse by verse.  We started in Sept. in some of the "women passages" of the New Testament (Titus 2, I Peter 3, I Tim. 2), then spent a couple inbetween weeks in a study on prayer, and now we are going to study I John.  I so love that book of the Bible; it is so jam-packed full of information for the believer!  I was in a ladies study on it several years ago and it really changed my life and clarified my understanding in several areas.  Good stuff~

I have many friends that have done that Beth Moore study and loved it. I haven't done that particular one but several others and all have been great.

Way to go on the healthy eating. My father-in-law died this summer of colon cancer and I have been trying to s-n-e-a-k more fiber and less preservatives into my cooking. I am not doing such a good job on cutting out the sugar and fat though. But I think that every little bit helps...at least I am trying, right!

Is your son still in Washington, DC? I thought someone told me he was working with a friend at a construction job here in NJ last week. Maybe they have him confused with someone else.

Perhaps you've heard by now that my son Dave just got engaged this month. It's an exciting roller coaster ride. We go to see them and meet her parents the first weekend in February.

Well, Hi!  That Beth Moore study was very life changing for more than a few ladies in my study group!!  Now, we are into Daniel........ WOW....... that is close to home for the lifestyle of American families, even in the church!!    Her studies are just so down to earth chock full of REAL and TRUTH and she speaks like I think!!!   I think if I was able to articulate all that God has done in me and around me, I'd frighten people though!   Good things, He has done.  Powerful things........ Faithful things........ Insightful things. ( of course, He who hears my thoughts would be insightful!! duh )

     God bless your heart today!!

Hmmm...you certainly do have some challenges when it comes to preparing food - but I know God is leading you and will show you the way - glad you still have the Weimar cookbook around! ~Colleen~

HEY!!!  Where are you??  Is that new way of cooking and eating weakening your fingers so that you cannot type anymore??    It's March 1st, coming in like a lamb here in MN.... so it will go out like a lion, so the saying goes.    Whatever.  The sun is warm enough now to melt the ice along the edges of our street, and the truth of spring coming towards us is very nice.......the evidence is here now.

Hope you and yours are all well........ in Christ, Deb
