Remember Edwards? You know, John Edwards, that really toothy guy who ran for
president in ’04 and didn't make it past primaries? For some reason the news outlets made him out to be
the darling of the female species. Something neither I nor any of my
female friends understood. But then maybe that’s because we aren’t democrats or
blind.
More to
the matter at hand though, Edwards’s wife has cancer, apparently serious
cancer. This has been highly publicized lately. What’s very moving is that she is
such the self sacrificing wife that she is willing to put her pain and
suffering to the side for the sake of her husband’s political career.
But, while
her actions are so far commendable, I find that this story, rather than endearing
Edwards to me as I’m sure it is meant to, repulses me. How could a husband
sacrifice what could very probably be the last years with his wife, his
supposed beloved, for a political office? Edwards is young, if he had to hold
off running for 10 years and helped his wife through her illness he would still
be in the average age range for presidential candidates.
His willingness to leave his wife in the dust for his
own chance to be immortal is disturbing to say the least. What leadership and
governing traits can we expect of a man who is willing to sacrifice his wife
for his own glory? If he is willing to do this to the woman he “loves” what
would he do to us, the people, who could never claim such a bond with him?

as to the music, I wanted to have a Justin Timberlake song
on here as a joke for a certain someone (you know who you are) but I “borrowed”
the track from an ipod user and then
remembered iPods don’t use mp3s so I had to put on another breaking Benjamin song.
