This quote was in a facebook group called STRIKE 2008 focused on making college free in the US. She said it during a discussion on what we students could do to help:

my first kiss

She drove a big old lincoln with suicide doors and a sowing machine in the back.
And a light bulb that looked like an aligator head was mounted on the front of the hood.
She had an easter bonnet that had been signed by Tennessee Ernie Ford, and she always had sawdust in her hair.
She cut two holes in the back of her dress and she had these scapula wings that were covered in feathers and electrical tape.
And when she got good and drunk, she would sing about Elkhart, Indiana, where the wind is strong and folks mind their own business.

And she had at least a hundred old baseballs that she had taken from kids, and she collected bones of all kinds.
And she lived in a trailer under a bridge. She made her own whiskey and gave cigarettes to kids and she had been struck by lighting seven or eight times and
She hated the mention of rain.

And she made up her own language.
She wore rubber boots.
She could fix anything with string.
And her lips were like cherries and she was stronger than any man.
And she smelled like gasoline and rootbeer fizz and she put mud on a beestring I got at the creek.
And she gave me my very first kiss.

my theory

So, Bjork and Radiohead are interconnected. They have many similaries between their releases and sounds at different periods.

It's true. Here is why:

Debut and Pablo Honey-
In 1993, Bjork released her first album, Debut; Radiohead released their first album, Pablo Honey.
Both of these were a reflection of the sound at the time, and were nothing special. However, they both managed to have some popular songs. Despite their popularity, the music itself wasn't actually that good, and nobody would have been able to guess, listening to these albums, how amazing they were to become.

Post and The Bends-
In 1995, Bjork released her second album, Post; Radiohead released their second album, The Bends.
Both of these albums still didn't have a very original sound. It would still have been impossible to speculate how weird these bands were going to become. Despite this, the actually song-writing on both of these albums was amazing. It surprised everyone how perfect each song was. Both of these albums were appreciated by both critics and the general public.

Homogenic and OK Computer-
In 1997, Bjork released her third album, Homogenic; Radiohead released their third album, OK Computer. Both of these were their "Magnum Opi". Homogenic and OK Computer are both albums that are held as the best in not only the 90's, but all of recent history. They blew everyone away. They also began to have production and experimental atmospheres become a large part of their music, though not the main part.

Vespertine and Kid A/ Amnesiac-
In 2001, Bjork released Vespertine; Radiohead released Kid A and Amnesiac. Both of these were a radically different from their last albums, but still amazing. They both focused considerably more on atmosphere, production, and the soundscapes they created than the actual musicality. They had a quiet, teriffyingness to them that was more about what is deep inside of everyone and the subconsciousness than most albums tend to be.

Medulla and Hail to the Thief-
In 2004, Bjork released Medulla; in 2003, Radiohead released Hail to the Thief. These albums are not as close as the others, but considering those are perfectly close matches, I think it's fair to let this one slide. I suppose one can say that both of these weren't too surprising to anyone, and that they were both very focused politically.

Volta and In Rainbows-
In 2007, Bjork released Volta; Radiohead released In Rainbows. Both of these albums came as a surprise to everyone--the latter more so. In addition, they were both fairly short. Furthermore, both of these albums seemed simpler and more primitave--they had a feeling about them that lended to drums and having fun, especially when compared to the pretentiousness of their previous albums. Despite this, both albums have more slow songs than would be expected.

As you can see, they very obviously line up. Almost all of their albums are released in the same year, and have many other similarities.

Love,
kurt
