| Here's Daniel Burke Ryder (he has a middle name now) at 3 weeks old. He looks like he's having second thoughts That's not Grandma-ish hair. That's aunt-ish hair. This is big brother Kevin celebrating his 3rd birthday. I told him to show me some teeth. Kevin calls me "Bona".....his own unique name for Grandma. I like that. | | |
| This is my second grandson, little Daniel born on June 21st. He weighed 7 lbs. 13 ozs. So far he doesn't have a middle name but they let him loose from the hospital anyway. He's only 7 hours old in this picture. Babies always make me think of Peter Venkman in the second Ghostbusters movie, when he asked Dana, the baby's mother, can I put him down ? ....as he points in the baby's face, "You're short, your bellybutton sticks out too far, and you're a terrible burden on your poor mother." I don't know who the heck that is holding the precious little one.......they let anyone in the hospital these days. | | |
| A DOG'S PURPOSE Whether this story is true or not, I don't know, but it's a wonderful story.......read on
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's f amily surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on.
Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away..
The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives ar e shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, 'I know why.'
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, 'People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?' The six-year-old continued, 'Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.'
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply.. Speak kindly.
Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entir e body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
Being always grateful for each new day and for the blessing you have.
ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY! That's what dogs teach us...dogs are really smart...most dogs, anyway.
'Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.' ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yep, we had to have our beast of a dog put down last week. He was sick, old, and was taking chunks out of people indiscriminately. It was still sad. So now, just the 2 kitties are left and, so far, they haven't asked where the dog is. I think it's open season for house pets.

| I was thinking about diets and eating healthy. This I was doing as I was fixing myself a delicious dinner of Tilapia fillets. I peppered them and coated them with Romano Cheese and broiled them for about 12 minutes. A couple years ago, I ate this very dish at a local restaurant and have been making it for myself ever since. The aroma filled the house. Oh yeah. The Tilapia went down rough. I had a hard time finishing it. In fact, I had to stop and come back to it to finish it. Wow. So.....I washed it down with some Ice Cream !! Perry's has these 1/2 pints they call "All Mine." So I buy a little of the two I like. Vanilla and Mint Chocolate Chip are my favorites. The chocolate chips are BIG. No shavings. Those are cheater chips. Fascinating information..... Researchers looking to make a buck are once again eyeing the "miracle fruit," containing a substance that makes sour taste sweet. What we really need is something that makes sweet taste like battery acid. truth is, the house really stunk after broiling that fish I like to watch groundhogs. They crack me up. I think ice cream and groundhogs are my favorite Springtime activities. < aren't they hilarious ?? | | |
